Updated bootcamp drivers - lost 10 GB space?

Hi all,
Running a 2011 MBP, and I went through the agony of installing W7 on my extra internal HDD without the superdrive (shout out to apple, thanks a lot).  Those familiar know the frustration.  Anyway, I updated my bootcamp drivers (5.1.+), and noticed an approximate 10 GB decrease in drive space.  Is there a way to clean up old drivers?  I've checked everywhere I know, and I can't find any old residual files to remove nor does any sort of windows cleanup help (or shadow copies of system restores either).  Or is the 5.1 update that bulky?  Thanks in advance!

Is there a chance the hard drive has another partition that may have
been set up by using BootCamp or some other utility? If you choose
to look into the Mac HD and see the named partitions already on it,
(some will appear as additional separate hard drives) a few will be
curious but essential with OS X Recovery, among other, set apart and
in their own named hard drive partition.
http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
http://www.apple.com/support/osx/
There are some utilities that could help find out what is using the 10GB
missing from the hard disk drive. A few are in the OS X itself, others are
out there which may or may not be worth their trouble; esp if acquired
from questionable sources, due to threat of adware or malware content.
I'd wonder if you didn't have a second bootcamp partition, or other space
occupied by other software, given the Windows and VMware use in it.
If you have a suitable complete backup on external sources, you could try
a fully new installation, and then for OS X content migrate from backup.
That may be a bit extreme. Before you try to be rid of unknown partitions
be sure they are not part of the main OS X installation, as that could be
helpful to have later on should you need to reinstall original OS X or use
the recovery section specific to that computer. If not already erased.
Is the issue with space in the main HDD or in the external where you put W7?
Good luck & happy computing!

No matter what driver I have tried thus far
it does not install or update the drivers
Battlefield 3 nags you about having 11.1 and needing to update.
However this game proceeds to load using these drivers (11.1 )
I recently bought NFS THE RUN.
Unlike BF3 the game does not proceed therefore inorder to play this game i would need 11.7 or higher.
can someone please provide the driver that actualy installs and works.

Take a look around my bookmarks
you are updating AMD, not Boot Camp drivers.
    you need to uninstall first.
probably need to update via Device Manager not via Install from AMD

  • Win 7 in Bootcamp multiple updates, Apple drivers lost?

I have a mid April 2010 MacBookPro that i have been running Windows 7 in Bootcamp & usually accessing via Parallels 5 which uses Bootcamp as a virtual machine. & running Snow Leopard
I really don't need Windows much any more, but decided I want to keep it accessible via Parallels & I want to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
Parallels 5 is incompatible w Mountain Lion so taking advantage of Parallels 5 to 8 upgrade offer.
So realized I'd better do some prep before all the installation & realized that I hadn't kept Windows updated--just Security Essentials. It was showing outstanding updates going back to Dec 2011. So I downloaded & installed all those. At one point I was prompted about a driver & told Windows to fix & it did--sort of.
I also had where Windows wouldn't boot during the process, but I think part of it was that it hadn't finished w installing the updates. After I shutdown it did work.
I also then went & updated Bootcamp which I had avoided doing thinking it could have been the reason for major blue screen problems in 2011.
But I'm wondering if it has lost the Apple drivers. The track pad is not working well. Not sure if it is just setting the speed (which I'm not sure where to set since I use it so infrequently) or whether the drivers got messed up.
I'm planning to shortly boot into bootcamp & run a Windows back up. (Time Machine is regularly backing up Mac side)
After that, I plan to read & follow the update procedures from Parallels to get ver 8 installed & set up which I'm hoping will go smoothly.
& then I plan to install Mountain Lion which I have downloaded. & will have to figure out how to set up the new Cloud features, etc. May set One to One for help rather than struggling on my own.
Does erratic track pad response in Windows indicate a problem w Apple drivers? I don't know why they would have gotten messed up unless it was the fact of not keeping Windows & Bootcamp updated until now doing them all at once--well Bootcamp after all the Windows updates.

Now it has gotten worse. I wish I had documented what I had done, but I think it was after I ran some addtional updates. Can't remember if it was the Office updates or the addtional Win7 updates.
But now besides the error message when I try to open my virtual machine in Parallels (which I got both before & after running Bootcamp updates), now 2x at least it did not boot into bootcamp but instead showed that there were problems & the fix screen came up. Again.
I did manage to run the Windows backup on my new WD Passport partitioned back up drive w about 50 GB formatted for Windows & the rest of it for Mac so I can use it w Time Machine.
It backed up files in libaries & personal folders for all users 1.86 GB
But I'm hesitant to go ahead & upgrade Parallels 5 to 8 w the purchased update to download & run as well as doing the upgrade Mountain Lion. It does not seem wise to install new or additional software on top of an unstable Windows/Bootcamp set up.
So wondering my options. I'm guessing that the solution to an unstable Windows OS would be to reinstall it as a clean install. But then the normal thing to do would be to run the updates which took a long time the other day & then messed things up so the track pad wasn't tracking well. Before later causing it to crash.
Just got word from Parallels suggesting a claen install into Bootcamp.
But also considering just installing it as a new virtual machine in Parallels & dispensing w Bootcamp.
I hope this makes some sense. I'm very tired but want to put these questions out there so when I get back to it, hopefully there will be some suggestions/recommendations.
    Thanks.

  • Cannot Update BootCamp Drivers

I'm running windows 7 on my MacBook Pro 2010 with Mac OS X 10.6. First I would like to know if theres anyway to check what version BootCamp drivers I have on my computer. I'm trying to update to the newest version (3.2), but when I run the exe file, it tells me "The BootCamp 3.2 Update requires Boot Camp 3.1 or greater. Please install Boot Camp 3.0 before proceeding with the install of the 3.2 Update"
After that I downloaded the 3.1 Update, It tells me I need the 3.0 Update, which I can't find on the Apple website.
How can I update my Windows Drivers? Thx

The first set of drivers comes from the OSX DVD or Stick while you are IN Windows. After that it is very important to update Windows (with a Firewall and Antivirus) through Windows Updates (Internet Explorer > Tools > Windows Update -OR- Start > Control Panel > Windows Updates). If your Windows Updates are up-to-date, click Start, then Programs, then Apple Software Updates.

  • Cannot update BootCamp Drivers 2.0 to 2.1

My computer is a 24 inch White iMac (Late 2006 model), Intel based.
My current system is OS X 10.5.8
Basically, I recently used BootCamp 2.0 to partition my drive and install Windows XP Professional, 32 bit (x86).
I read that the latest Windows Service Pack my installation can contain is SP2, so I proceeded, and with many help from people in this forum, I eventually succeeded, managed to install the BootCamp Drivers and everything, practically everything except this and one game (which I suspect cannot run on SP2) works perfectly.
However, I want to upgrade to SP3, and to do so, I need to install the BootCamp Drivers 2.1, which are available from this link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL830
So I download the file, BCUpdateXP(.exe), but cannot run it, both on Windows and on disc when I burn the file to one.
    Double clicking it does nothing.
So seeing it could be opened using Winrar, I did so, and saw two files: BCLocUpdateEnable.exe, which does nothing when I double click it, and BCUpdateXP.msp, which runs when double clicked, but quickly displays the message:
The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded maybe missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. verify that the program to be upgraded exist on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.
The only option is to click OK.
Trying to install SP3 without this update just brings up a message saying I am 4 megabytes short to install it, even though I have 16.2GB free, and I have found that the message is caused because I do not have this 2.1 update.
My current Windows system is: Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpspsp2gdr.100216-1441 : Service Pack 2).
The issue is posted by a lot of people, but none of them have solutions. And as far as I know, I should meet all the requirements to run this update; using SP2, BootCamp Drivers 2.0 installed.
It would be great if someone can guide me through this, I am sure it will help a lot of people with the same problem.
    Many Thanks,
    From Lelouch

Update on what I have tried:
I have tried changing the settings on location, language, keyboard etc as a post suggested. - No use
Tried double clicking the actual downloaded .exe file. - Nothing happens
I have tried extracting and clicking on the .msp file. - Get error message: The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded maybe missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exist on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.
I have tried doing what this post said:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1845
The command I have tried entering in the cmd.exe are:
    msiexec /update C:\Documents and Settings\Lelouch\Desktop\BCUpdateXP\BCUpdateXP.msp
    msiexec /update C:\Documents and Settings\Lelouch\Desktop\BCUpdateXP.exe\BCUpdateXP.msp
and both just bring up the Windows Installer window, and the button available to click on is OK, no Next as suggested by the help page.
    Windows Installer only shows:
    Windows ® Installer. V 4.5.6001.22159
    msiexec /Option <Required Parameter> [Optional Parameter]
*Followed by a list of options.*
    And the OK button.
I am tempted to try this:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
    3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and click String Value.
    4. In the text box under the Name column, type BootDir and press ENTER.
    5. Right-click the name BootDir, and then click Modify.
    6. In the Edit String Value dialog box, type the drive letter for your system drive, and then click OK. For example, if your system drive is C:, type C:\.
    7. Close Registry Editor.
to have Windows SP3 installed, but not sure if it is safe as it does say to have BootCamp 2.1 installed first, but BootCamp 2.1 just won't install of all the things I have tried.
Anyone know if it's safe to do this?
Thanks if anyone can help me solve this.
    Many Thanks,
    From Lelouch

  • HT5639 Windows 8 already installed, can I only update Bootcamp drivers or must I reinstall?

If i already installed Windows 8 on the previous Bootcamp version, do I need to reinstall now with Bootcamp 5 to make trackpad, etc work? Or can I simply update the drivers within Windows 8? If I can simply just update the drivers, can someone please explain that process?W

On the evidence here you have the wrong version of the Boot Camp drivers?
Boot Camp 5.0.5033 is for Win 8 64bit, is this what you are using (download it here)
There is a sheet that will tell you which version of Boot Camp does what (here)
Verify and if needed download the version you need.
I will also repeat my earlier advice, If your installation is currently working, don't fix it.

  • Updating bootcamp drivers

My macbook has vista installed using the bootcamp beta, and I've just tried to update the drivers with the Leopard DVD, unfortunately it doesn't seems to work.
It pops up a dialog stating "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'BootCamp.msi' in the box below."
The "box below" contains "E:\Mac Drivers\Drivers\Apple\", but I don't have an E drive. If I browse to BootCamp.msi on the disk it's in "D:\Drivers\Apple\", but using this just causes the dialog to continue coming up.
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Cheers

I have, but I'm running Windows XP. Same issues exactly. Did you find a solution?

  • OSX Maverick... Updated Bootcamp Drivers?

Will there be upgraded Bootcamp Drivers for Windows 7 when we upgrade to Maverick?
    Thanks,

I have spent a whole lot of hours trying to install Windows 7 Pro in my MacBook Pro. Feeling like am butting my head on the wall. Can you help please? Here is what I posted last night:
"Okay... 1) did all the instructed "homework" to prepare the MacBook Pro. Backed everything up on an external 500 gB drive via Time Machine after making certain the OS X MAVERICKS was completely updated and no more software updates.
    2) Re-formated/erased my 16 gB flash drive (on the Mac) to be certain it would have the right FAT formatting. Had tried to do it on the desktop PC and the Boot Camp assistant would not accept it. Accepted after the Mac formating.
    3) Downloaded the MS Windows Support software to the Flash Drive as directed from within the BootCamp Assistant
    Selected the partitioning choices:
OS X: 629 gB and 552 gB free
WINDOWS: 120 gB (recommended by a knowledgeable friend
    4) partitioning failed so.....
    5) re-installed OS X MAVERICKS again using the Restart>>>Command R held down & selected the "re-install OS X"
    6) tried BootCamp Assistant again then tried to partition
            failed again
    7) Re-started again by clicking the Apple re-start then held down the Command R again to select:
Disk Repair and it was okay
    8) Verified disk permissions
    9) Repaired disk permissions
    10) Ran Boot Camp Assistant again but still keep getting this error message
" Your disk could not be partitioned" "an error occurred while partitioning the disk"

You probably want Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640.

  • Bootcamp error, lost hard drive space.

I am on Macbook air 13" mid 2013

It was halfway done with the partitioning

And now I have lost 38 gigabytes of my free space.

Seriously, please post the output of the following commands...
    diskutil list
    diskutil cs list

  • Lost sound devices now blue screen of death when updating creative drivers.

I have an XPS with windows 7, dont k now what the sound card is, I have factory installed software for Creative X something extreme, and Realtex.
Now I had been trying to get sound via an optical cable to an AV amp with no success. I had tried disabling and re enabling sound devices, then I tried updating the drivers, realtex was ok but the Creative drivers caused the blue screen of death with the message IRQL Not less or equal"
I tried all options in device manager including rollback, every time I try anything I get that blue screen of death, whats more, in "Sounds" in the control panel, I have lost two of my sound device options that do not appear even with "show hidden devices" so I now have no sound.

    Hi Nambo,
Device manager should list the exact hardware in your desktop. But normally, integrated audio jacks will appear on the same backplane as other motherboard components, while an add-on card will have its jacks in an expansion slot. So you should know whether you have integrated or add-on.

  • Cannot update nvidia drivers after installing bootcamp drivers

    Hi everyone,
I'm sorry to start again a topic that in my view has been treated many times, in many forums but HAS NOT been solved so far...I looked over many forums over the week end and tried a number of "tricks"
I'm running Windows 7 Pro Sp1 32bits on a MacbookPro 17 - intel core duo with two graphic cards but for better performance running the Nvidia GeForce 9600m GT
I have installed Windows 7 this week and then Bootcamp 4.0 - thus i have now Bootcamp drivers, ie 261.41
I have installed Battlefield 3 which asked me to update drivers to at least 285.27
I downloaded them from Nvidia site 285.27 AND 285.38 (m version - notebook) but when i start the indatllation i get the message "hardware not comptatible"
    So far i have tried 1) to install non-beta older versions but higher than 261.41 (which is by the way only available on bootcamp) - it does not work 2) uninstall nvidia drivers, restarting windows with VGA driver and install newest nvidia drivers - it does not work;
What i have not tried (as it was not clear on other forum): 1) replace an INF file? - i did not understand what i have to do here 2) update other drivers? mobility? ATA? - i'm not sure what people were talking about here?
SORRY MY MESSAGE IS LONG BUT I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP - and want to play battlefield 3 that i pre bought by the way... ;-)

    Hi,
I make this post as I found a way to solve my issue and this could be interesting to other people:
    1. Download the latest nvidia drivers (285.38) on nvidia website: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?
    2. Launch the .exe it will unpack the package in one folder: most likely NVIDIA/DisplayDriver/285.38/WinVista_Win7/International
    3. Your installation will be cancelled through "hardware not compatible" - no worries you still have the unpacked stuff.
    4. Go to http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/win7x32/285.38/disclaimer and click on "Click here to download the modified INF file." on the bottom - this will download a file called nvwi.inf - copy it
    5. Go to the unpacked folder and go to the folder named Display.Driver - paste the nvwi.inf - it will replace the actual one
    6. On the root folder (International) click on setup and you will be allowed to install the drivers - note that i have accepted during installation two times that it install drivers not "allowed by windows" (different topic)
    Hope this helps.

  • I've done an update on 7/25/11 as requested by itunes since I've done the update I've lost all my music and videos; also I've lost my USB drivers. What can I do to restore my 2nd Gen Ipod touch to factory?

I've done an update on 7/25/11 as requested by Itunes. Since I've done the update I've lost all my music, videos and icons. I also can't connect to any PC via the USB port. What can I do to restore my 2nd Generation Ipod Touch back to factory?

I also have a 2nd generation iPod and when the new version was being advertised on the home page, I clicked on it. And I saw that the update was compatible with iPod touch 3rd and 4th generation, iPad 1 and 2, and all the iPhones. But it wasn't compatible with iPod touch 2nd generation. So you downloaded an update which wasn't compatible with your iPod. I'm sorry.

  • Bootcamp Drivers 2.2 update problem.

    Hey all.
I have XP running in bootcamp. I wanted to switch off the annoying headphone LED Light so i decided to upgrade to bootcamp drivers 2.2. Unfortunately, they do not work. When i open the program, it seems to start up, load something, then just quit. Each time i run the program it does this... nothing shows up, just the explorer window deselects then selects again.
The program seems to have installed McAfee Virus Scan, but i didnt run the scan yet because it looks suspicious.

Hi. I tried to upgrade as per instructions, but apparently "no better drivers exist" in XP's eyes when manually searching the folder. Also uninstalling is very quirky. As soon as I uninstall drivers and scan for hardware changes, it remains unknown for a few seconds, then immediately becomes Cirrus Hd Audio Card, as though it remembers. Restarting without refreshing after uninstalling, produces the same results, the card is magically installed the next time I log in.
I get the feeling bootcamp 3.0 keeps applying the same drivers. Could I just copy and paste the drivers over? or would that screw up the installation?
