Updated brand new Touch to 5.0.1, now won't play music

I just got a new iPod touch today, and loved it for about the first six hours. Then the update finished downloading, and I installed it. Now, when I try to play music or an audiobook, it does one of two things: either it goes to the Now Playing screen for half a second and flips back to the list, or else it starts skipping forward very fast from song to song (on the display) while playing nothing at all. What happened, and how do I fix it?

It sounds like your iPod Music database file got corrupt for some reason (say during the update). Problems with corrupt database (with actual file tracks intact on iPod touch) usually get resolved if you add a single track to your iPod via iTunes.
iTunes would automatically fix the corruption and allow you to play your songs without problems.

I have a new iPhone and have kept my old one to play music in another room.  I have recently updated my software on the new iPhone and when it backed up it backed up to the old iPhone, I have therefore lost pictures, messages and apps from my new iPhone as it has backed up to the last session of the old phone, how can I get all my new stuff back and stop it from happening again?

No such thing has occurred.  iPhones do not backup to one another.
It is not possible to backup a different iPhone from the one being updated.
If the iPhone was restored with a backup from a different device, restore it again from the correct backup.

Pay attention when restoring the iPhone and select the correct backup to restore from.

haha, so now i'm thinking. I'm learning the terminal as fast as i can but there are several lines of codes and commands in there that throws up red flags to me that i don't fully understand. It just looks fishy too me. It would be highly appreciated if someone could just check this out just to tell me that i don't need to worry about it. Or point me in the right direction. I just feel un easy about this. ha.

  • I recently updated my iPod touch to sync through iCloud - now can't connect to the internet through wifi, my macbook air is working as we speak

I recently updated my iPod touch to sync through iCloud - now can't connect to the internet through wifi, my macbook air is working as we speak. ive tried 'forgetting this network" in settings; tried turning off and on again; and pulling my hair out! The last was equally useless and a little painful!

    Try:
    - Resetting the iPOd. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Pwer off and then back on yur router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reet Network Settings

My iPod Touch 5th Generation won't play music out loud. Why and what can i do to 'fix' it?

If you mean the headphones work but the speaker does not:
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

This isn't the first time something like this has happened but it has never stayed this way for such a long time. If I have to send it in for repairs I will but I'm not sure if its under warranty

  • I have an ipod touch 1st gen 32 GB. It stops playing music randomly. The battery has been replaced and I've tried restoring iOS 3.1.3 as a clean install but the problem persists. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

The battery died so I had it replaced. Now it stops playing music (It was doing this before with the old battery when plugged into power cable)... it won't even make it through a whole track. I have tried turning off and on, turned off autolock and restored several times to 3.1.3 with no apps, just music but the problem persists.
    Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you for the speedy reply! I suspected it to be a hardware fault but found a lot of people online had experienced the same problem. What should I do? Obviously it is well out of warranty and the battery is literally brand new. Seems a sad waste if it cannot be repaired. I've yet to find a definitive answer or what to do, be it contact Apple etc....
Again, many thanks for taking the time to help. :-)

  • IPod touch stopped working when charging now won't turn on at all

iPod touch stopped working when charging now won't turn on at all

    Try in order:
    - After charging or half an hour, reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and if it shows in iTunes, restore the iPod via iTunes.
    - See if placing the iPod in recovory mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you likely have a hardware problem.

  • I upgraded my iPod Touch 4th Gen yesterday.  Now it won't play music, which is the main thing I use it for.  Over 11,000 songs [it's a 64GB model] -- will I actually have to restore the device and re-add all that music?

[Music files are still there, and I can play them on my computer directly from the iPod [just one track at a time] but not in the usual way, through headphones.]
On the Summary page of iTunes for the iPod, it shows 50-plus gigabytes of "Other" content and no music, which was not previously the case.  I assume this is related to the problem.
I can bring up individual tracks on the iPod and see cover art, but cannot play the music.

iCloud is free, iTunes match is $25 a year.
I had the same problem and when I went to Settings I had 0 songs, even though they were obviously still there since I only had 15GB free on my 64GB device.
I decided to do a complete reset/restore of my 4th gen iPod Touch, Bad move! I've been messing with it for hours, and it simply won't restore--it keeps hanging on a black screen with an Apple logo and a progress bar at about 10%, sometimes it goes completely blank and tries again, with the same result. (I've posted my question/plea for help here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19735862 )
I'm ready to bang my head against the wall! I can put the device in recovery mode, connect to iTunes on my computer, and get it back to the setup screen, but when I go through the process again and try to do an iCloud backup I get the same reset/restore loop.
I could start from scratch, but I really, really, really don't want to go through all of my hundreds of apps, reinstall them one by one, etc. etc. etc.
I thought that once I started using iCloud, I didn't need to sync with iTunes anymore--guess I was wrong.

Just bought a new album and one of the songs won't play, how do I get it to play?

What do you mean by "won't play"?
Try deleting the song and downloading it again from the iTunes Store.

  • Should I update brand new iPod Touch 5 to iOS8?

    Merry Christmas everyone!
So, we got our kids an iPod Touch 5 for Christmas and have noticed they are still running iOS7. I know that these devices are capable of running ios8, but I am wondering whether or not I should update iOS or not?
What are people finding in terms of real life experience with iOS8 on iPod Touch 5? Does it run sluggishly or is it fine?
Considering these are brand new iPods, this would be a totally fresh update (no legacy apps, etc to worry about).
    Joe.

Some users have reported shorter battery life after updating to iOS 8. It is up to you if yo want the features added by iOS 8
