Updated device software changes

I just updated my device software, which I didn't need to do, and there some changes that were made that I would like to have changed back to factory settings and wondering if it is possible.
First question:  Can I undo that unnecessary software update to restore the factory settings??      If not.........
Second qustion:  How can I change 'Default Device' on device to another setting (i.e. in Calender)??
Another issue:  When viewing emails, is there a way to set the device to always display the images in the emails??
Thanks for any helpful suggestions.

  • Help with updates - The software change returned error code 0x87D00215(-2016411115).

I have rolled out bunch of updates across few hundred workstation systems.
Few of the desktops have failed to install SOME of the updates and just can't get my head around as to why?
Looking at one of the workstations, I can see 5 updates are pending download at 0%.
Some of these fail after a while and with in Software Centre, I can see 'Help with updates - The software change returned error code 0x87D00215(-2016411115).'. Not exactly sure what this means, but I have tried clearing the cache and
    rebooting the workstations few times.
(I have also tried to use Windows Update and install one of these manually, which worked.)

Investigating this further, I have found the following in CAS.log:

  • Fatal Error while trying to update device software

I have recently purchased my first blackberry (the storm).  I have added the desktop manager to my computer and when I connect my device, it automatically checks for updates.  It shows that I have have software updates to download, it gives me a summary of applications to update.  Then it asks to click finish.  When I do that, it goes to an Error message:  Fatal error has occured while updating your devices software.  Please try again.  I have tried many times, and I even removed the desktop manager and reloaded it, with the same results.  Any ideas?

What version of the desktop manager are you using? Do you have enough free memory? and what version are you using now, options/status

  • Error 807 When trying to update device software

    Hi
I've searched the forums for a solution to this and a few people seem to have the same problem but I cannot find a solution.
I was trying to upgrade the device software on a Curve 8310 and it got to the end and crashed- I now get error 807 on the device which I know means no OS.
I know I need to get a new OS on there but as the device is not recognised by USB can anyone advise how I do it?
    Thanks
    Rich

Rich, that is likely error "507" if you look closely. It means no Operating System on the device (and since you were in the midst of an upgrade, I bet you know that!).
You should be able to plug your BB back to the USB, open DM and it should recognize and prompt for it. If it doesn't prompt you, open Application Loader and see if you can.
If still not, then you will need a JL_Cmder wipe and load of the OS.
You will need to use JL_Cmder to wipe the device and subsequently load the OS to the device. Follow the instructions here:
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/How_do_I_wipe_the_BlackBerry_using_Jl_Cmder%3F
If JL_Cmder does not work, follow this instructional:

  • Unable to update device software from 4.6 to 5.0 (No updates available) (BB Curve 8900)

    Hello guys.
I've been trying for the past few days to update my BB Curve 8900's Device Software but whenever I click update, it always says "There are no BlackBerry Device Software updates available."
    Please help.
    Thank you!

    Hey TheLittleBee,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
BlackBerry Handheld software availability is determined by your network service provider.  If your network service provider does not have OS 5 availabile then there will be no updates.

  • Nokia N8 - cannot update device software and Maps ...

A couple of days ago I tried to update my N8-00 software using Ovi Suite (installed version 3.1.0.91). It reported that there were various updates available, including Ovi Maps and the device software itself and also some other apps (mostly games). I selected the Ovi Maps and device software for update and clicked Next ... but at some point soon thereafter the update failed for no apparent reason.
Now, when I check for updates using Ovi Suite it tells me that my current device s/w is v014.002 and that an update is available. But when I click on the Update button and come to the next screen, the device update is not shown in the list on the next screen of the wizard. Instead, a list of useless apps and games is shown, none of which I'm interested in. I cannot click the Next button because nothing is selected (the device s/w item is not shown in the list). Clearly I can only continue if I select on the these games and that is all that will be installed.
If I check for updates on the phone itself over WiFi I only get the message that no updates are available.
Now I've previously had issues with updates done directly on the phone where the downloaded update installs got corrupted or something and was able to recover using the steps in this blog posting:
    http://www.orison.biz/blogs/chall3ng3r/?p=2871
but this procedure is not helping in this case, even after deleting the E:\PRIVATE\20019119 folder.
So my question is: does Ovi Suite have a similar issue in that it stores corrupted/incomplete update installers in a folder and is unable to recover from this situation, thinking that those updates have already been installed? If so, where is that folder and what should I delete to ensure that all updates are again available for installation.
Would removing and reinstalling Ovi Suite help in this case?
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

    @archie_
On N8 PR1.2 you should have been able to update to Ovi Maps v3.06 via SW updates, which is now pre-installed in Symbian Anna. What version are you saying is installed upon your N8?

  • Can't update device software

    Hi,
The Blackberry desktop software freezes whenever I try and update the device software with the latest version. It gets stuck on the 'Backup - connecting to device' step and nothing then happens at all. Under normal operation the phone synchs okay with calendar, photos etc so I am not clear why it would fall down on this step, Any advice?
I have the latest deskptop software and the phone is a Curve 8520. Thanks.

  • Tried to update device software, now can't connect to device via USB

I tried to update my 8100 to the 4.5 software.  I first updated the desktop software to 4.7, then tried to update the device, but the process failed.
Now, when I open desktop manager it shows as not connected to the device.  I can go into the device mamager properties and select the balckberry, but when I return to the destop amanger it says no device.
It appears that whatever I do it does not recognise the usb device.
The display on the 8100 is only text, no graphics or phone company info, and it is basically inoperable.
There are options on the display for some applications, but if I choose them, it says app not found.
Is there a way to force an update to it?  Or have I poohed this phone?
    Thanks in advance
    edit:
I have pulled the battery on the unit to reboot it, and have tried going back to an older revision of desktop manager

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1. Unplug the BB from the USB and PC. Reboot the PC completely from off.
    2. For the BB, you might not have loaded back the Theme that was in use on the device when you upgraded, which will normally give you a black/white screen. You need to follow the instructions below.
You will need to use JL_Cmder to wipe the device and subsequently load the OS to the device. Follow the instructions here:
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/How_do_I_wipe_the_BlackBerry_using_Jl_Cmder%3F
If JL_Cmder does not work, follow this instructional:

  • Re: BES 5 Updating Device Software from 4.6 to 5.0

Can you comment on how I can download the actual 5.0 OS for a device?  I have a Curve 8330 and it is listed as a compatible device for 5.0.  I have installed software on my PC that checks for Updates and says NONE.  I checked for updates via Options --> Wireless and says NONE.  I'm on SPRINT and not sure if that matters, but for whatever reason the device shows as compatible, but I cannot seem to update.
Is there a way to simply download the OS file and install?  I know you have great steps, but they don't seem to work for me, in that I'm at the mercy of the "Find updates" and its not showing OS 5.0
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated, thanks :-)

  • Connecting to provider necessity (after updating device software)

Hi I am still using the 4.6 OS for my 8900 and i want to update it to 5 but i am currently not back in the UK where my provider is. Would I still be able to update it? there is a system message that says I have to use the blackberry and email services after i update the new software. I do not use the data, internet and email function in the current county that i am in.
does anyone know if i can update it still?
    thanks.

    Hello,
While I've never tried it, I would advise that you only do such updates when you are in range of your home carrier network so that all Services (Service Books, etc.) can be properly re-initialized after the update finishes. To me, it's not worth the risk of my services failing should the not be able to be re-initialized while roaming.
