Updated failed on new IPad had not connected to yet to ITunes - how to recover lost photos?

Brand new IPad2 (last week) - used only to take very sentimental photos of elderly parents - no apps loaded - only data is photos on the IPad
Has not been synced with ITunes or ICloud - so cannot recover this way.
Connected it to wireless - starting downloading lastest IOS update - froze half way through - turned on / off - Apple symbol appeared for hours
Allowed battery to deplete hoping when recharged it would turn on again.
Apple symbol re-appeared and hung - tried hard re-set holding home and on button down - apple symbol only appears - it did diplay quickly for 10 secs connect to ITunes
Tried connecting to PC - won't recognise device or connect to USB.
Absolutley need to recover photos from device - please help - !!

I don't know much about the application at all. Someone else posted about it the other day and I bookmarked it.

I have never heard of this "double ping" issue in the before. You say it is coming from the PC so maybe it is a USB problem on the computer. I assume that you have tried another USB port on the PC. You could also try another computer that is running iTunes and see what happens.
I am not a PC user, so the only other thing I can offer is a link to the Apple support site for an iOS device not being recognized in iTunes for Windows.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

The New iPad will not connect to my wi-fi

I bought The New iPad yesterday. I have iPad One next to it. One will connect to my wi-fi network, the other won't. The New iPad won't.
The problem is the password to the wi-fi network. TNiP seems to want a longer password. My password is 4 characters long (I do not want to hear a word about security and my password) and after I type it the submit button does not highlight unless I key in more characters.
Is there anything I can do?

You're on a PC?
Go into the control panel, add/remove programs. Uninstall iTUnes, Apple mobile device service, Apple Application Support. Then redownload and reinstall iTunes and see if that fixes it.
If not there are more indepth things you can do.

Does your Macbook "remember" the password and enter it automatically? If so then your own memory may not be remembering the password exactly. I would try, on the Macbook, changing the wifi password and then seeing if the new one will enter from the iPad ok. Good luck.

This is a common problem that is most likely caused by files that are not marked to have proper read/write permissions.
To solve this problem, follow these steps.

Need help. Before updating to latest software iOS6 the iPad had no issues connecting on our home router. After updating the iPad will not work. We have a mini iPad with same issue. This does help me because I am pondering on wether to buy an airport extreme to solve my ipad 2 connection woes. I have an extremely old router dLink 524....but I have NEVER had any problems with it at all ever. My xbox connected great to it and netflix ran flawless through my xbox.....now I have an ipad2 and an apple tv and they are BOTH having horrible connection problems. I have read most of the forums on how to fix it by changing the settings on my router but since mine is so old I couldn't do some of the suggested solutions. So here I am debating on whether to spend all this $ on an airport extreme? I am just hoping that if I go and purchase this, my connectivity issues problems will go away like yours did. Just wondering if you have ATV as well and if the AE solved its problems? I have read about AE solving ipad2 wifi problems, I'm just hoping it will solve my ATV as well.

IPad 1 is recognized by iTunes running on Windows XP but will not sync (new problem, used to work fine). The iPad and all its contents displayed but warning box says the iPad is not connected. Tried soft reboot. All software versions current.

iPad 1 connects to iTunes and displays in the left column. All elements on iPad displayed. However, it will not sync. Displays message that the iPad is not connected. This is a new issue. Used to work fine. All iTines and iPad software up to date. Ran HELP diagnotsic in iTunes with iPad connected - no issues noted. Attempted soft reboot of iPad. No help.

Issue hopefully resolved. Required Apple store to delete all info from iPad and reinstall operating system. Had to reload all data, but it seems to be working fine. Cause unknown.
