Updated FFox 8.1 form 6.3 and when I try to start it I get a message: Titled: XUL runner – "Could not load XRE functions"

I tried to update FFox from Help at the top of the tool bar. It down loaded and one would normally expect it to update auto install normally but when it finished and closed FFox to restart like usual instead of restarting it gave a message that FFox was running and must be closed first. I could find no instance of FFox running in the status bar or in Task Manager Applications.
So I logged off and back on to reset everything in case it was running in the background. I Tried the update from Help again. Same message just when FFox closed and attempted to restart saying FFox was running and must be closed.
I used FFox to go to the FF site and read the help and problems section for 8.1 and saw a suggestion to Down load a copy of 8.1 and install it form desk top. So I did this.
Before installing 8.1, I un-stalled the old one and rebooted then installed it form the desktop and rebooted. But when I clicked the Icon to start FFox it paused a moment --- I got a message Titled: XUL runner “Couldn’t load XRE functions”.

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Hi, are you doing it through Settings or via iTunes? If doing it through Settings, try plugging it in via USB and updating with iTunes. Hope this helps.

  • I just downloaded the Adobe XI trial version and when I try to start it I get a message that says the trial is over.

I downloaded the Trial Version of Adobe Acrobat XI last week, February 20, 2015, using the Adobe Download Assistant. When I try to start the program I get a message that "your trial period has expired"  How do I get the trial to work? Should I uninstall it and try to download it again?

Unfortunately a trial sometimes fails. Reasons include having had a trial before, or changing the computer clock, and other things we don't know about. Sadly, there is no second chance. If there is anything we can help you with to help you with your purchasing decision, please post here.

  • "Firefox works fine till one day when i open it up it tells me " downloading updates will open soon" IT DON'T. and when I try to open it I get "error message OXC 0000056 "

this happened every 2 or 3 days for about 2 weeks , When I reinstall the program it works ok. I have a 2010 HP with windows 7 64 bit.

That means you need to clean reinstall.
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems?esab=a&s=troubleshooting&r=3&as=s#w_5-reinstall-firefox here].
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.

  • Installed FF. 8.1 and after reboot, tryed to start FF and got message "Could not load XRE functions.

I have been running I believe FF 6.3. I was getting nag popups to update FF. I went to help and used the selection there to up date. In doing so (more than once tryed this method) it would download and install like a usual update untill compleation. Then it would say Could not compleat update or Could not restart firefox because and instance is running. Close FF and try again. But there was no visiable FF running not even in Device Manager.
I will mention here that I did install Skype last week and have seen a couple of messages concerning Skype not loading on start up but seeing it running in the tool bar if this may have anything to do with it.
So looking for help at the FF site I saw recomended to DownLoad and install FF 8.1 so I did that. Then from Control Panel I uninstalled FF and rebooted and installed fresh leaving the old settings and bookmarks etc. Then rebooted again.
When I started FF 8.1 I now get a message "Could not load XRE Functions".
So remembering the last progy install on this box was Skype I went to the control panel and un installed it ---- and when I did, at the finish I got that same message "Could not load XRE Functions".---- Intresting---- hummmm but how do I get FF installed so I can get on with Life?
I just tried to verify this new account and got the same Couldnt Load message when I clicked on the email link for this forum.
Much Thanks in advance for anyones help.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • When I try to start Firefox, I get a message that it is already running but not responding and I can't run another Firefox at the same time. I uninstalled and reinstalled. No change. Tried various other suggestions. Help!!

When I try to start Firefox, I get a message that it is already running, but not responding and that I should close it before trying to run another Firefox. But I cannot find a way to close Firefox program that is not running as far as I can see. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, but that did not work. I've tried various other things, but no luck. I thought programs should stop when the computer is turned off, but that didn't work either.

How are you opening the Profile Manager?

Sounds that Firefox is still or already running.<br />

I purchased a song from iTunes and when I try to play it I get a message that the original file cannot be found and asks if I want to try and locate file.  I locate the file and it's empty?!

Delete the file, then download again from the iTunes Store, Purchased section (in the Quick Links sidebar).

  • When I try to start Firefox, I get a message saying that Firefox is already running and cannot be re-started, so close down and reboot.

Following an upgrade of my OS from XP to Vista, I tried to point the new installation at my old profile. Now when I try to start FF, I get a message saying that it is already running and I should reboot to clear the problem. I've done that but the problem remains. I have uninstalled firefox and reinstalled v4 beta. The problem remains. Any ideas?

OK, I had moved the profile file inside the profile folder which was created when I installed FF, to the main FF folder. I then took the equivalent file which existed under XP before my upgrade to vista, and moved it into the new Profile folder. That's when I hit the problem described in the initial question.
So, what I did following Tony's response was to move the bookmarks password and cookies files into the profile created on the install. I then moved that file into the profile folder and moved the one I'd saved from XP, out to the main FF folder.
Started FF and voila! All working fine. Thanks for your help.

  • When I try to download itunes i get a message that the services can not start and I may not have enough privileges. What is wrong?

When I try downloading itunes it stops with a message that says the mobile service can not start because I may not have enough privileges. What do I need to reset?

    Hello, bradhannan.
This sounds like a possible permissions issue.  Try these steps.  Uninstall iTunes and all of it's components.  Next, download the newest version of iTunes and save it to your desktop rather than selecting run.  Right click on the installer package and run as administrator.  I have included a couple articles that covers how to uninstall iTunes and all of it's components.
