Updated G4 eMac to 10.4.11. FCP 5.1 Doesn't Open. Can't Install FCE3 Or 4?

Not really a problem as I don't usually use my G4 eMac but I don't like it when things suddenly lose functionality.
A couple of months ago I updated from OS X 10.4.10 to 10.4.11 and I have noticed recently that FCP 5.1 no longer opens.
I also tried to install FCE 3.5 but it would not install. Same with FCE 4.
I seem to remember some problems a few years ago with OS X 10.4.11 but can't remember the details.
Is this likely to be the cause of the trouble?

Thanks for replying Martin.
I haven't investigated with my usual thoroughness as I thought there might be some known issue.
I only discovered it a few weeks ago when someone asked about FCE 3.5. As I already had FCE 4 on my iMac I tried to install FCE 3.5 briefly on the eMac to check the details.
I tried a .dmg of FCE first and when that refused to install I used the DVD, with the same result.
Later it emerged that the already installed FCP 5.1 would not launch any more.
Anyway, when I get some spare time I will investigate further and even try trashing the preferences or using FCS Remover and reinstalling.

Since last update of Pages, my Pages app in iPad anda iPhone doesn't open, it closes suddenly. I already deleted it and reinstalled, but still not works.
Can someone help? Do I need to wait for another update?
    Thanks

This is my problem that has to originate from the update.  So glad that I did not purchase a MacBook!  Apple products/apps are appearing to be not different from Windows products.
I have deleted and reinstalled from the device and desktop, resets, etc.  When I uninstalled and reinstalled while connected to my desktop, the older version of pages was installed.  I was able to see all of my files that were saved to the cloud.  I was forced to update again to access any of the saved files.  Once updated again, I could no longer open pages.  It began, to open and abruptly shut down.

Unless you tell us exactly what you have tried, we have no way of knowing exactly which updates or deletes? aren't working for you.
Try installing the combo >  Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.8.
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed, try the App Store.

A common hangup for updates is corrupted file permissions.
Using Disk Utility, perform a Repair Disk Permissions on your main drive, then re-attempt the update.

I found that the upgrade had replaced my library files with empty ones.
So I restored the backup I made of them before the upgrade and
now all my media is back.
    Great..
For those who run across this therad and haven't taken the effort to make a backup here is another approach that should work.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

        * DVD drive for installation

Trouble is appl no longer sells it, you have to search eBay & such for the full retail version, not any grey Install Disc.

  • Can't install Safari 1.3.1 Update

Having previously trashed Safari & gone back to 1.2....I tried to work back up to current status. Permissions Repair done before and after. First, I applied the 10.3.9 Combo updater. Then, when trying to do the 1.3.1 update (and 1.3.2) I get that bloody msg telling me I can't install...that the system can't use this software. I know there was a previous thread on this, but didn't see a solution to the problem. How the devil can I get back up to 1.3.2???????

Permission repair after the removal of the packages. and a restart of the computer. I am not speaking about after the 10.3.9 Combo Update.
I have the Security Update it is not evil. The perm. repair should be run after every software update you do. Combo, run perm repair, security run perm.
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
I would resolve the Kernel panics first.
I thank you once more for trying to help, but I'm still open to anyone's assistance in getting the 1.3.1 & 1.3.2 updates done.
Your welcome, however if you have those package in your Receipts then the software updater will recognize them and the install of the updates you are looking to do will not happen. Perhaps some one will pipe in with more help for you.

  • Can't install update to 3.6.14 even after making sure there is no other firefox running, and even after reboot.

Currently using 3.6.13. Received indication of update to 3.6.14, but restarting Firefox produces a box that says "Can't install the update, make sure there is no other Firefox version running."
There is no other Firefox running. I tried several times, with same results. Used "End process" from task manager instead of normal exit from Firefox, with same results. Shut down and rebooted the computer, and Firefox still shows the same problem.

"Private Browsing" with "Anonymizer Never Cookie" starts a second copy of Firefox, which apparently doesn't entirely go away after use. I started Firefox, went to Private Browsing, and then used Task Manager to "End Process Tree" for both Firefox processes. I then started Firefox again, and the update worked correctly.
