i recently updated ipad to iOS 7 and was prompted to set up passcode. on using later passcode not accepted and now ipad disabled. have tried to restore ipad using itunes but message is ipad disabled and needs passcode!

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

You would lose photo stream photos older than 30 days from your my photo stream folder. Tto keep them save them to the camera roll first. To do this in iOS 7, open your my photo stream alburm, tap Select, tap the photos, tap the share icon on the lower left, then tap Save to Camera Roll.
The photo streams from others should reappear when you turn it back on. Worst case, the owners of the shared photo streams would have to re-invite you.

You cannot uninstall the update. Apple does not support downgrading. What troubleshooting have you done? Start with a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. Are you syncing contacts with iCloud?

in order to restore your songs and apps, you should just reconnect to itunes and sync your data. your phone ran a backup before it upgraded, and you can also do a restore. but the key is still to go to your itunes and sync back to your phone what you wanted there in the first place.

It is not practicale to do this always any one faces the same problem

There may be a problem with the SIM card. Get a new SIM card from your carrier - there should be no charge for a replacement.
If no change with a new SIM card, the standard troubleshooting steps in order are:
Power your iPhone off and on.
An iPhone reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.
Restore your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup.
Restore your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.
If no change after any of these steps in order, your iPhone has a hardware problem.

it sounds like you were using iCloud. Go under Settings > iCloud and make sure the switch for Notes is ON (green side showing). If it's already on, turn it off, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on. Your notes should sync up.

Are you able to transfer anything else from your iTunes library and computer via the iTunes sync process such as a movie, TV show, podcast, audio or print book, apps, and photos from your computer?
What is selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
To minimise loss... Connect to iTunes on the computer you Usually Sync with and Restore from the most recent Backup...

Upgraded to iOS 7, set unlock passcode. It works to unlock but not for restrictions

I upgraded my ipad to iOS 7 and had to set a passcode. I did and I use this code to unlock my ipad when I first turn it on or if it has been idle for 15 minutes. I want to get into restrictions, but it is asking for a passcode. I never created a restrictions passcode, but I am asked for one. Since I never created one, I used the unlock passcode I set up when prompted during the upgrade set up. It says it is the wrong passcode. Thank you.

We have an iPad 2 running ios 6.something - I can't check that right now because we can't seem to exit "guided access". I was playing Clumsy Ninja when it froze. I didn't know about forcing closed or removing an app from the recent bar yet at the time, so I was looking through settings for some kind of intuitively obvious admin tool for shutting down a jammed app - to no avail. Then I reopened the game and tried different things: holding the home button down, pressing the home button multiple times. When I did that, "guided access" launched. It informed me that it had deactivated the buttons, and asked me if I wanted to shut down parts of screen. No solution in that, so I attempted to exit GA at which point ipad requested a passcode - I never set a general passcode or a GA passcode, so I have no idea what to put in. I have tried rebooting by means of Home and Power buttons - it reopens Clumsy Ninja with GA active.
Is there a default "Guided Access" passcode that would be in place since I haven't set one?

Nope . I was the only one using it and I did not set a passcode . That would have been a red flag for me . We don't have it configured to require a passcode for logon and I would not have created one intentionally .

User troubleshooting consists of restart (powering the phone off and then back on), reset (holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot.), restore from backup through iTunes, and finally restore as new through iTunes. I would also force closed the Messages app, double-tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking bar. From there, locate the Messages app and swipe upwards on the app thumbnail to close. Then try the troubleshooting steps I provided. Test the app after each step. If after the final step you are still unable to send an SMS, then you need to contact the carrier again. They need to check your account. SMS is a carrier function and there is no setting on the iPhone to enable or disable SMS.
