Updated Ipad now in recovery mode - why? If I restore to factory settings will I loose all my apps

I updated my Ipad and it wont turn on - it's now in recovery mode - why is this? If I do reset it to factory settings will I loose all my apps?

Something went wrong with the update and your iPad can not boot.
Yes, doing the required restore wipes all data.
Restore from your backup.

  • I was updating my iPhone 4 and my cabel fell out. Now i only get the option to restore my iPhone. Will I loose all my apps, pictures, etc?

    anyone?

All of your apps, pictures, etc should be on your computer, as you should always make sure that everything has been imported to, synced with your computer before any update.
You can just sync it all back.

  • I had to change my hard drive, now i'v tried to reinstall itunes, it is saying i have to restore my ipod touch to factory settings, will i loose all my films by doing this, as now my ipod wont work anyway unless i restore ?

I had to change my hard drive, now i'v tried to reinstall itunes it says i have to restore my iopd touch to factory settings and will loose my files. I have a few films on there and they show up on my purchases. If i restore, will i be able to get my films back ? as at the moment my ipod wont work now untill i restore anyway.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your device manually before syncing, you can restore from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Here's how to:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your ipod to your computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.

  • HT4972 If I upgrade my iPad iOS 4.3 to 6.3 will I loose all my apps progress I mean game progress ?

If I upgrade my iPad iOS 4.3 to 6.3 will I loose all my apps progress I mean game progress ?

If you back up your iPad before you upgrade and then restore that backup afterwards, you should get back all your saved data, but whether that will include all your game progress will depend on how the developer of the game created it. If your game progress is important to you, I'd suggest contacting the developers of your games and confirming before you upgrade.
The current version of iOS is 6.1.3, just to avoid potential confusion.

  • If I reset my iPad will I loose all my apps too?

If I reset my iPad will I loose all the apps too?

    Yes that's fine.
Every time you purchase something on iTunes, they link the purchases to your apple ID.
You'll notice the apps you've purchased before will either have 'installed' next to them in the App Store, or 'install'.
If it has a price next to it, you'll be charged, so be careful downloading ones you think you've already purchased.

  • Ipad stuck in recovery mode and won't restore--error code 1604

I tried to backup and update my ipad this evening and when doing so it now is stuck on the itunes and USB screen.  When I connect the Ipad to the Itunes it says the Ipad is in recivery mode and to restore.  I click ok and it tells me i can't restore the ipad and gives me an error code of 1604.  I have no idea where to go from here or what happened.  Any ideas?

Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
       1. Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
       2. Restore and wait for error 1604.
       3. When prompted, click OK.
       4. Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
       5. iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
       6. Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • I have just purchased ipad3 and thought I was restoring from my iPad2 but accidentally restored my husbands if I delete everything and restore to factory settings will it affect his iPad?

I have just purchased a new ipad3 but when setting up I thought I was restoring from my iPad2  but unfortunately I accidentally restored my husbands instead! If I restore factory settings will this affect my husbands iPad? Just wondered as when he set up his iPad he deleted all my contacts thanks

    Busymum2902-
Go to Settings-General-Reset-Erase All Content and Settings.  This should make the iPad act like a new one, and give you another chance to restore from your old iPad 2's backup.
There should be no affect on your husband's iPad if your iPad 2 had no affect on it.

  • HT201401 After updating to iOS 6 my iPad only has image to connect to iTunes. I plug it in and it says it is in recovery mode and have to restore to original settings.. why? what can I do?

I did the new update for iOS 6. Afterwards it says it had to restart and it did. Then the image saying to plug into iTunes appeared. I plugged it in and it says it is in "recovery mode".. Not sure what to do? I really don't want to wipe it clean, have it alot of info saved. What can I do? Can I take back the upgrade back? I need this fixed quick.

Your device is in recovery mode.  All data on it are gone.
Certainly you backed up your device before attempting something major like a software upgrade right?  If you didn't perfom this most basic of tasks, then your data are gone.

  • Is it possible to do a backup while my ipad is in recovery mode? Or to restore it without losing my photos?

    hi everyone!
    I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!
yesterday i updated my ipad to the latest iOS version and my Ipad is now stucked on recovery mode. Unfortunately, I have no backup and I have many photos in it that I don't want to lost. Can someone help me please!
I searched on internet and didn't find anything to help me. Are my pictures now erased? If I go to the apple store, would they be able to help me?
    thanks

I am sorry, but all of the iPad content is gone now. With no backup, there is no way to retrieve anything. You cannot backup now either. Use recovery mode, restore your iPad and download your content again and start all over. You have no choice.
