Updated iPad2(2011) to iOS8 now iBooks crashes while reading a book. What is going on?

Updated iPad2(2011) to iOS8. Now iBooks crashes while reading a book and closes down. I have sync'd the iPad a few times but nothing changes and it will 'crash' every 5-10 minutes. What is going on?

A better solution. This worked for me and several others, from a post from MrsMike921 in the following thread:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/26725105#26725105
go to your settings, and first go to Safari and delete your history by scrolling down to "clear history and website data". Then go to the advanced settings and select ""website data". It should show 0 bytes. If not, clear again.
next go to iTunes and App Store in settings, and touch your Apple ID, the select sign out.
AFter you you sign out of your ID, restart your iPad by holding down the power button and home key simultaneously until you see the apple logo after the restart.
when you are powered up, go to iBooks. You should get a message that you need to sign in to sync up your books. Sign in, and that should do it.

Thank you very much! I actually tried doing that with a paper clip but was not successsful. I feel I tried plugging in the clip in in every possible way and it still did not work. Is there is a special trick to the way this needs to be done? I felt like if I kep pushing, I was going to damage the device.

I have a similar issue.  I have the CS4 Design Premium with all updates on an iMac running 10.6.  All Adobe apps work except for Flash 10.0.2.566.  All apps worked perfectly under 10.5.  Within seconds of loading a file or clicking 'New' Flash terminates generating an Apple crash report (see exerpt below) - not an Adobe crash report.

Try a system reset.  It's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If that doesn't work, you'll need to do a time-consuming "Restore."

Both Chrome and Safari interrupt online streaming to request/demand an update for a PC program that doesn't work on Macs. What is going on?

The update alerts are fake, and are intended to dupe you into installing malware or disclosing private information so that your identity can be stolen.
You might get the alerts when visiting a website that has been hacked. Don't visit the site again. If applicable, notify the site administrator of the problem, but don't send email to an unknown party.
If you get the alerts when visiting more than one well-known website, such as Google, YouTube, or Facebook, then they're almost certainly the result of an attack on your router that has caused you to get false results from looking up the addresses of Internet servers. Requests sent to those sites are redirected to a server controlled by the attacker. It's possible, but less likely, that the DNS server used by your ISP has been attacked, but you should assume that the router is at fault until proven otherwise.
The router's documentation should tell you how to reset it to the factory default state. Usually there's a pinhole switch somewhere in the back. It may be labeled "RESET." Insert the end of a straightened paper clip or a similar tool and press the button inside for perhaps 15 seconds, or as long as the instructions specify.
After resetting the router, quit the web browser and relaunch it while holding down the shift key. From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. Do the equivalent if you use another browser. Open the Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.
Then go through the router's initial setup procedure. I can't be specific, because it's different for every model. The key points are these:
    1. Don't allow the router to be administered from the WAN (Internet) port, if it has that option. Most do.
    2. Set a strong password to protect the router's settings: at least ten random upper- and lower-case letters and digits. Don't use the default password or any other that could be guessed. Save the password in your keychain. Any password that you can remember is weak.
    3. If the router is wireless, or if you have a wireless access point on the network, use "WPA 2 Personal" security and set a different strong password to protect the network. If the router or access point doesn't support WPA 2, it's obsolete and must be replaced.
During the time the router was compromised, you were redirected to bogus websites. If you ever connected to a secure site and got a warning from your browser that the identity of the server could not be verified, and you dismissed that warning in order to log in, assume that your credentials for the site have been stolen and that the attacker has control of the account. This warning also applies to all websites on which you saw the fake update alerts.
Check the router manufacturer's website for a firmware update.
If you downloaded and installed what you thought was a software update, ask for instructions.

Just recently on my IPad I can’t update my App. I keep getting the error message “invalid Address” what is going on?

There are a number of threads about this - it looks like Apple recently updated their address validation. Some people have recorded success by :
ensuring that their iTunes account address is exactly the same as appears on their credit card bill
putting something in the second line of the address (including just copying the first line)
expanding abbreviations e.g. St to Street, Ave to Avenue etc (or conversely abbreviating)
putting apartment or suite number on the second address line

unfortunately, this is a native crash, meaning the crash happens in a native library, not in java code. This makes it hard to nearly impossible to help you track the problem. The best you can do now is the following:
    - search for your bug in the java bugs database
    http://bugs.sun.com/
    - if you cannot find it, gather as much information as you can and create a new bug report. Things to lookout for are your system specs, the JVM used, conditions under which the exception seems to occur (for example, does it always happen for the same source, or for different ones?). Be sure to post the crash output.
Of course that will not fix your immediate needs, so in the mean time you might want to try running on a different system to see if that changes anything.

  • IBooks - trapped while previewing a book?

I downloaded a sample book (Chef Keller's "Ad Hoc"), but when viewving the book there is no "back to library button". Now iBooks is hung up just browsing this book, no way to navigate away? That is, I can use the home key to get back to home page, but when I select iBooks again it takes me directly into the book I was previewing.

First, double-click the home button to show the running apps and stop the iBooks app by holding it until the minus sign shows, then touch the minus sign.
Then  Press and Hold the Home and Power buttons until the Apple Logo appears, about 10 seconds.
If that doesn't fix it, delete the iBooks app and re-download it. Make sure you sync first, though.

  • Mac crashes when watching videos. What's going on?

About two days ago I was watching an instant movie on Netflix. Ten to fifteen minutes into the movie my entire Mac froze. I restarted my computer and then tried to watch the movie again. And after a while my computer completely froze like it did last time - only this time it made these really AWFUL repeated screeching noises. I freaked, restarted the computer, shut it down, and unplugged it. (I was terrified it was going to catch on fire or something ridiculous, haha.) The next day I got on and did usual things: listened to music, surfed the web, etc. Then I started watching a YouTube video and without freezing or making the noises my computer went black then simply restarted itself. I can't videochat or do anything with videos without my Mac restarting itself now.
So what the heck is going on? I'm not a huge computer person, but I do know my way around pretty well. My dad can build a PC from scratch, but doesn't know a thing about Macs. He thinks it may have something to do with the video card, but I honestly have no idea. I believe we got my iMac in 2006. It's Mac OS X version 10.5.8. Over the summer I updated it from Tiger to Leopard. I'm not sure what sort of information to post but if you post telling me what I need to show to you I will.
Thanks for reading my ridiculously long post

I'm not sure you'd want to use the backup from your other Mac, because to do so you'd have to erase that drive. If it's big enough, after erasing, you could create two partitions, one for each Mac.
Cloning a drive for the first time, however, can take some time and it might not make it through all the way. In that case, you'd have lost the data from the other Mac for nothing. So, this is kind of a rock and a hard place thing right now.
If you've backed up your important stuff, then, if you determine the drive is failing, you can move that back over after you have a new drive installed. (I don't think your iMac is that easy as a DIY project. But depends on your skills.)
To get an idea what's involved, you could take a look at these excellent, illustrated instructions. You can find your model here. The EMC # is located under the foot of the mac.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Browse/iMac
For cloning. I use Carbon Copy Cloner, freeware. It's very popular, easy to use and highly recommended. There are other ones out there, such as superduper, and tri-backup (this one not free.)
    http://www.bombich.com/
Once you get this sorted out, you definitely don't want to be without an external, bootable clone.

EDIT: You could open up Console in Applications>Utilities. In System Log, see what kind of entries there are just before these events, and just after booting up again. There might be some clues there as to just what is going on. I'm not great at reading these, but you could post parts of these logs. Might be able to tell if it's heat related.

  • Updated iPad2 to iOS6. Now it randomly freezes. Have to reboot (home   sleep key for 15 seconds) several times per day. Help!

Help! I guess I can restore it to original factory settings but I am afraid of losing everything. If it helps the iPad is NOT jailbroken. Any ideas or do I have to wait for a future update?

Just to clarify. Once I am done with the iPad and push the sleep button (upper right corner) or just let it sleep from inactivity for a couple minutes, the issue happens when I try to wake it up. I can see the unlock screen with the pin pad but the iPad becomes unresponsive and I cannot enter the numbers or I can enter the numbers but it freezes right after that while the pin pad is still visible. The only thing that fixes it is to hold the home and sleep button for 10-15 seconds and wait a minute for the whole thing to reboot. At that point it usually works. Still, what I liked about the iPad was the convenience of being immediately ready and now I have to reboot many times per day.
I have an iPad2 with the latest update (6.01) and it is not jail broken. Apple help me please!
