Updated IPhone 4 to IOS5 Restore Error (-50)

Last night I updated the os to 5 on my iphone 4 using my pc (o/s windows vista), using itunes 10.5 . Now I have lost all data from the end of july as that was the last back up until the one I did just before I updated my phone last night.
Initally I had a problem with it not registering my phone on itunes, saying it was synced to another computer, I ignored that and it went away and registered my phone. It has updated everything since, but it will not restore any of the contacts, photos or messages since July.
I have tried
1) restarting the laptop and restarting itunes, no difference
2) Several attempts at restoring when it prompts when connected to itunes, each time ending in error code (-50)
3) have been through all the trouble shooting relating to error code (-50)
4) several manual attempts at restoring via right clicking under the devices panel
Am literally at my wits end with it. Any further suggestions, literal step by step break down please as I'm no computer whiz.
Does anyone think a restore to factory settings followed by an attempt at updating/restoring would work?
Thanks,
Chloe

Any number of things could have corrupted the file, including bad space on the hard drive, etc. You can look through the system logs and see if you can spot any errors around the time the backup was made that might explain it, or you could run a surface scan on the drive to verify the integrity and try to lock out any physically bad space. It's unfortunate, but if the file is truly corrupt, there's not much that can be done at this point.

Hi recently when I was in Boston I purchased the new Iphone 4S at apple store. and everything worked fine. Now I wanted to update my phone to the new IOS5.1 but I get this error message "The network connectiong could not be established". I get the same error message if I try to restore my phone. There have been updates before ( eg 5.0.1) and never ran in to issues until this latest one.

  • HT4623 Can't update iPhone and get restore error -1. Help?

I tried to do the latest update on a 3GS iPhone I gave my daughter (minus the phone usage) and it started the restore then got stuck with error message -1.  I tried everything it said to do under the error to correct it and it still won't restore.  This happened with the last update that I tried to do on another iPhone we gave our daughter to use and I just ended up upgrading my phone to replace the iPhone that couldn't be restored to anything.  I can't do that again and shouldn't have too.   Any ideas on how to fix this?  Thank you for any suggestions!

Well, millions of people are trying to do the exact same thing. Yes, the servers are busy, busy, busy. Please be patient.

We were able to update iPhones but get an error message when trying update our iPad. Ay suggestions?

What iOS are you currently running?
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • How to fix iPhone 2G itunes restore error 23

    Hi.
I have had this iPhone 2g for a few years now. About three years ago my iphone 2g had displayed that there was no sim card while I knew my sim card was in there. I tried to restore and everything went downhill. To make a long story short, my iphone was unable to restore. No matter how many time si tried to restore it, i always got the error #23. Specifically it says:
"The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error occured (23)."
Now, itunes wants me to update my iphone firmware as well as restore it. I am not sure if this is contributing to the problem or not. Currently the iPhone is running 3.0.1 firmware.
I have tried using Recboot to exit recovery mode, but then the iphone is stuck on the apple logo forever.
Is there anything I haven't tried yet? Is this a fixable thing that I don't have to take to the genius bar or replace a part?
Please, if you can help, it woudl be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

    HELP!!

    Hey Linard Michael,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing error 4005 when attempting to restore your iPhone. The following resource provides a potential solution for this error:
Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
    Check USB connections
    Related errors: 13, 14, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1611, 1643-1650, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response,” and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, thentroubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    - Use another USB cable.
    - Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
    - Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
    - Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
    - Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you checked your connections and are still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • TS3694 iPhone 3 GS restore error 2001 or 2006

Need help with restore error 2001 or 2006; I have updated iTunes and OS to latest releases. Thx, LJ

    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.

  • Liquid Contact Indicator? iPhone 4 not restoring (error 1611)

My iPhone won't restore even though it is recognised by iTunes. After an initial 'restore attempt' process, I get the following error code (Error 1611).
I have taken the iPhone to a technical repair store and after a quick examination, I was told that the iPhone had suffered water exposure and was out of warranty. I explained that this could not be possible as the phone had not been in water, was well looked after and was in immaculate condition. He proceeded to explain that the Litmus Paper indicator at the base of the device had turned colour. I again explained that I had not exposed the iPhone to water and queried how the iPhone could be perfectly functional during the evening, not be exposed to water during the night, but was dead the next morning due to apparent damage from water?
After again explaining that the iPhone had not been exposed to water, I asked whether or not humidity could be a cause of water damage. He said yes, this was possible.
Has anyone else experienced this type of issue? What can be done about a 1611 error?

Try getting your phone in DFU mode. If this doesn't work, you most likely do have a hardware failure:
    1. Close iTunes.
    2. Connect your iPhone to your computer and then launch iTunes.
    3. Turn your iPhone off (hold down the power button at the top of the iPhone).
    4. Then, hold down the sleep/wake button and home button together for EXACTLY 10 SECONDS, then release the sleep/wake button.
    5. Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an iPhone in recover mode has been detected. When you are in DFU mode your iPhone screen will be completely black. Remember that if you see the restore logo, iTunes logo, or any message on the iPhone screen, you are not in DFU mode but standard Recovery Mode.
    6. Hit the OK message that should popup to restore your phone.

  • Update 3.1 Failed - Restore error 9/13/1603/1604/1611/2002

Now I know what 13, 1603 and 1604 mean. I've solved those problems. I've gotten it to attempt a restore severa times where it appears to be preparing to upload data then the phone restarts and shows the itunes icon with the USB cable. This is when i've started seeing error codes 9, 1611 and 2002 (only once). I've tried EVERYTHING under the support page that I know someone will post, don't bother. Sorted out the USB issues and iswp file issues... but i'm lost now. Can anyone help. HP Pavillion dv6000, Vista. I do not have another PC to try.

Just ran into something similar today. One of the users I support unplugged her iPhone during the 3.1 update and it rendered her phone useless. Recovery mode didn't work, but I did have some luck with Google (while waiting for the Apple support tech to finish writing up my case over the phone). The trick is to try putting the phone in DFU mode, which is different from recovery mode because it doesn't load the iPhone OS. It took care of the iPhone I was seeing the 1611 error on. If DFU mode does not work, then it is most likely that you have a real hardware issue and the only way to fix it is to have Apple repair the phone. It won't hurt to try the DFU mode trick though since it won't make anything worse. Here's how you do it:
    To enter DFU mode:
    1. Connect your iPhone to your computer
2 . Turn iPhone off. You may have to hold the power and home buttons down together to force the phone off
    3. Once the phone is off, hold the power and home buttons together for 10 seconds exactly
    4. After 10 seconds, release the power button but keep holding home until the computer recognizes that a USB device was plugged in
    5. iTunes should detect your iPhone correctly, and also allow you to restore to the factory default settings. The iPhone screen should also be black when it's recognized. If it shows the iTunes logo with the cord, then you're in recovery mode and should start over at step #2.
Give this a try and let us know if it worked
