Updated IPMP - do I need to reboot?
Hello
we have a live server currently running IPMP across two NIC's.
I have updated the /etc/hostname<nic> file and I want to now get the IP's associated with the primary NIC.
Do I have to reboot the server to 'activate' the new IP's?
or is there an easier way?
Well, the hostname.* files are only read at boot, so rebooting the system would be one way of activating the changes.
Another way of activating the changes would be to type them directly to 'ifconfig'.

HP Envy m6, Updated for Windows 8.1, hard drive needs to reboot
Hey,
I've just updated my software to get the new Windows 8.1. On completing my updates, I recieved a message saying my hard drive has changed and that I need to reboot it. How do I do this? Do I risk losing my files? HELP
HpEnvym6beatsHello hpenvym6beats. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. I understand the computer provided a message, indicating the hard drive has changed. It shouldn't become a huge issue, as it does occur sometimes, after completing updates. Just turn off the computer and turn it back on. Your files should not be lost, after completing this task.
Please respond if you have any other questions or concerns.

After a download update 4.0, I cannot launch. Message says I need to reboot to complete a previous update. I rebooted 5 times to no avail.I have tried searching for xpicleanup.dat to no avail as suggested. What now?
I was able to get live chat support to solve the problem in my post. It worked immediately. Here is what I was told to do. I needed to perform a clean installation Hopefully, it will work for you, too.
"To perform a clean installation, first close Firefox completely. (This chat window
must be closed if it's in Firefox) Then, rename "Mozilla Firefox" to "Old Firefox".
(On 32-bit Windows, this is C:\Program Files\. On x64 Windows, this is
"C:\Program Files (x86)". On Mac, Firefox is in /Applications) Finally, re-install
Firefox normally from http://www.firefox.com"
Since I had already downloaded 4.0, I just went to my download file after renaming the file and ran it. -
trying to update a plugin, I do, then reboot but when I check the plugin checker says I need to update it.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Issues_related_to_plugins#Identifying_installed_plugins
You can see the installed plugins on the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About%3Aplugins about:plugins] page.<br />
If you set the pref plugin.expose_full_path to true on the about:config page then you see the full path of plugins on the about:plugins page.<br />
It is best not to leave that pref set to true as it exposes that full path to web servers, so reset that pref to false after you are done with the about:plugins page.<br />

Can't update due to message saying a prior update is still running and to reboot, but I have rebooted at least 4 or 5 times What do I need to remove to get the install to work?
I am stuck at FireFox 3.6.18 as no update actually installs, even when I am logged in as the admin.
i am running XP SP3
I have the update files for version 4, 6, 8, and 10. IF I can figure out the error - probably in the registry - which update should I start withIf there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
*Firefox 10.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Need to reboot my device to receive mails since An...
I have four mails accounts in my N8, i use push mails. Since Anna, several times a day, i can see my phone starting to sync one mails account (the white circle on top left is turning) but will never stop sync and will never receive email for all my accounts. It can last hours.... always sync and no mail! I need to reboot my phone to keep on receiving mails. Do you have it too? Thnk you.
Yes, I have the same issue since installing Anna too (and many more: /t5/Nseries-and-Symbian-Smartphones/N8-auto-restart-after-updating-Anna/td-p/1122125/highlight/true/...).
But who is left at Nokia to help us?
Or at least acknowledge that these major issues are under investigation? -

I installed the official os 6 on my blackberry released by O2 over a month back. Yesterday, I was not able to configure any emails without downloaed the new version of the email setup 6.11. After the install, I was needed to reboot the phone. However, since then the phone is not switching on. That initial page comes with the Blackberry logo and that status bar (which shows completed) but never leaves that page!!
Someone please please help!!!!I got mine to work by reinstalling OS 6 via the Blackberry Desktop software, but because I restored my backup as well as my old settings for email, my emails are still coming through provided I don't change my passwords as I can't get into settings without being asked to update as well. It means I won't be able to get my exchange emails as we always have to change/verify passwords periodically. The weirdest thing is that I no longer have maps and password keeper....

Unable to update any software that requires a reboot.
When my old mbp broke down I migrated all my files using Time Machine. At first I had some issues with multiple accounts but since that was resolved everything has been running smoothly. Recently though, I discovered that when I tried to update Safari to 5.1.2, it appeared as if the installation went all right but when the system had rebooted the application was still on my software update list. On that list were also several firmware updates as well as minor updates for applications like iTunes. In fact, I could see that no automatic updates had gone through as planned since I bought my new computer last spring. The list was empty.
I tried to install all updates that didn't require a rebooting of the mbp and this went very well. However, when I tried to install the updates for firmware and Safari, my computer didn't even ask me for my password but skipped immediately to rebooting. When it fired up again, none of the updates had been installed but were still on the list for available updates.
Another thing that I've discovered while googling for a solution to my problem is that my disk permissions are corrupted in some way. I've tried to use Disk Utility to repair my disk permissions and it changes the permissions of about a dozen of files. Immediately after having been repaired though, if I run another verification scan, these same files will show up again as having the incorrect permissions.
Are these problems related? Does anyone know how to fix either of them? I'm thankful for any help at all.
edit: It might be helpful to know that I'm on a 13" mbp (early 2011) running OS X v. 10.6.8Another thing that I've discovered while googling for a solution to my problem is that my disk permissions are corrupted in some way. Nothing to worry about. And no need to keep repairing Permissions. Once is enough.

For Software Update, try moving these files to the Trash (don't empty yet.)
In your home folder library
/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.******** *******.plist
/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate********* **************.plist
/Users/yourusername/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
Asterisks replace string of numbers or characters and numbers. Trash any others you find "By Host."
In the next level HD Library
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
This one will ask for your admin pword. -
Running old version of Firefox. Tried to update and get message that a previous version hasn't finished installing and computer needs to reboot to finish. I reboot, then try to install new version, but just get the same error. I also tried to uninstall and start over, but got the exact same message that it needed to finish updating before it could be installed.
Suggestions?

Need to reboot CM server after Device Package install (suppport new phone)
hi! we have 4.1(3)SR7 but does NOT have support for new phone model 7925G. As a result, we need to install CallManager Device Package 4.1(89.0).
But I am getting conflicting message about the need to reboot CallManager server after installation.
if yes, reboot all CM servers in the cluster or just the PUB?
readme says:
"When applying this Device Package to enable new device support, a cluster-wide reboot is required for those devices to register successfully.
A clusterwide reboot IS NOT required when running to update existing firmware/support."A device pack does two things for you.
1) It adds new phone models to your CUCM deployment, i.e, adding support for 7925G.
2) Updates the firmware for phone models which are already supported in your CUCM depoyment, e.g., 7941G
If you are performing option 1 (which you are, by adding support for 7925G phones) you must reboot the cluster (all servers). This is so that the web page will start displaying the new phone models for you.
If you are only performing option 2, then you only need to reset the phones. At which point they will download the new firmware from the TFTP directory as instructed by their config xml file they download upon reset. -

Hi NWL1,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPhone won't update and is stuck. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

Constant need to reboot powerbook
After applying the updates (battery, bluetooth and 10.4.4) which became available this week, I have needed to reboot the powerbook at least three times every day.
Here is a rundown:
Battery=> no need to run update
Bluetooth=> update did not work. Never finished.
10.4.4=> updated fine.
It would appear that I need to reboot more frequently when I close the lid and open it later. Though I have also seen it work fine for about 10 minutes after the lid was opened and then I get the message that I need to reboot.
Anyone else having this problem? The computer ran GREAT before I did the updates.
Also, anyone know how I can fix it? I don't even know where to begin to trouble shoot it.
Thanks,
jasonyes, it does look like Kernal Panic!
I don't know if this helps anyone, but here is the panic.log file entries: Note. Previous to these entries the last entry was Sept 5th.

Firefox won't update. Keeps asking me to reboot.
I updated to firefox 5 and since then when I click on the icon it tells me I need to reboot my computer. I have rebooted several times and I still keep getting the message that I need to reboot my computer to finish updating firefox.
I too am having a similar problem. I am trying to install Windows in a newly created Boot Camp partition. I have Windows 7 but Boot Camp Assistant only mentions XP and Vista. I put in my installation disk of Windows 7 but it refuses to install it. My OS is fully up to date.
