Updated Ipod and lost all music

Has anyone else recently update an Ipod touch using Itunes and then lost all your music?  That is what happened to my daughter's.  We updated to version 4.21 and all music was wiped out.  Didn't have all the music in our Itunes library so can't get it all back.  Anyone have a solution or is it gone for good?

Music is always synced to the iPod from the iTunes libray after a restore or update.  It is not part of the backup that is made as the first step of a sync and update. Therefore, if you update an iPod and the music (and apps) that are on the iPod are not in the iTunes library, the updated iPod will not have that music or apps.
If you are in the USA and using the latest iTunes, you can redownload iTunes purchased music by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

This is in the iPad forum, but anyway, your music should still be in iTunes. What happens when you try to sync your iPod with iTunes?

I don't think so.  You should post your question with an informative title, not just "HELP".  You may get better replies.  Try this "iPhone Accidentally Restored as iPod - Data Lost"

  • I accidentally reset my iPod and lost all of my pics and videos.  Any ideas how to get them back?

I accidentally reset my iPod and lost all of my pics and videos.  Does anyone know how to restore them?

All you can do is restore from backup if yu have one. If you backed up to iTunes make sure that autosyncing is turned off. Otherwise when you connect the iPod to the computer the backup with you data might be overwritten. To turn off go to iTunes>Preferences>Devicesand check the box that says "Prevent iPods...".

  • HT203167 Computer crashed and lost all music.  How can I get a listing of all prior purchases and get them downloaded again?

Compaq computer crashed and lost all music that was on the computer. How would I go about getting a listing of all purchased items and download them again? I know when i first got set up it said I could download up to 2 times when purchased and I have only downloaded once.  But need a listing of songs as well.

One thing that I also recommend in the future is to back your iTunes library up relatively regularly.  You can get your purchases in the cloud just fine, typically, but at the very least, it will save some time by backing it up.

  • I just set up my ipod and lost all my calendars.  Is there a way to prevent Ipad from doing that/

I just set up my IPad and lost all my calendars on all devices, including Outlook.  How did that happen and how can i prevent that in the future?  The only thing that i was asked about was to delete my local contacts or not.

No backup is a bad mistake.
The music sync is one way only - computer to ipod.  The exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing, File>Transfer Purchases
Start asap always maintaining a backup of your computer.

  • I tried updating my new iphone with my music from my old ipod and lost all of my phone contacts, picture etc. and now my phone looks like my ipod did. How do I get it back???

I lost all of my information from my phone....I didn't back up before plugging in

If you just bought the iPhone today, the first time you connect a new iPhone or iOS device to iTunes the first time that is used to sync with another iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iOS device to the new iOS device, or set up the new device as a new device.
Sounds like you did the former and if so, this did not include backing up the new iPhone first. All data on the iPhone was replaced with the backup for the iPod Touch. The data that was on the iPhone at that time is gone.

  • Updated iCal and lost all recent calendar entries/schedules...

hello, i did about 1 hour of editing and updating and adding new events on my iCal today. And for the first time, i accessed my iCal from the web, and it looked good and accurate. A few hours later, I decided to reply to the iCal update prompt, and so I clicked update. I opened up iCal after the update and all recent edits/additions I made early today, were all gone. Even after I restarted the computer. Very, very stupid. This is why people are so skeptical with updates. Can someone help? This seems like an issue that would happen 10 years ago, not today. Thank you!!
Also, can we no longer browse the categories of discussions to see if our question can be answered by previous posts? I clicked on "browse" in the top right corner of the discussion page where the "new" and "my stuff" links are, and it went straight to a page that had no category options. Just all posts, of all topics. Thanks again....

oh my goodness..... and now, there is a duplicate color in the 3 categories of events within iCal (personal, work, and home).
Personal, and Work are both green now.
Doesn't this defeat the whole purpose of different colors?
    what is going on here?

  • HT1766 Having updated to IOS 6 and lost all music

Having updated to IOS 6 on my phone all my music and pods are gone and I, or rather iTunes, fail to sync new ones. It is with sadness I see that the VERY handy gadget I had is gone. What options do I have? At the moment, buy another phone with Android? Sync with Linux? Since the WiFi and other net facilities work lousy where I am, I cannot use iCloud and with this experience I doubt I would like to.

tried restoring computer to previous date, unsuccessfully

If for some reason you have failed to put your music in itunes on your computer before updating, then you can redownload some itunes purcahses in some countries:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • HT201210 i updated my ipod and lost all my songs ?

    Can i get them back?

They should all be on your computer.  Sync them back
Certainly you did not attempt an update without making sure that everything was on your computer first.

  • Ituns doesn't have music anymore, scared to sync ipod and loose all music

I really could use some help, I have tried everything and don’t know what happened. I plugged my Nano iPod into my computer as I have always done since I received it as a gift for Christmas, to create a new playlist and sync it. When I plugged it into the computer all my music was gone on my iTunes, however it was still on my iPod. Since then, I have done all the upgrades, gone thru everything I can think of to find my music but can’t. I have purchased massive amounts of music and I’m afraid if I sync my iPod it will erase what I have and I have to start all over. I don’t know what happened to the music.
If anyone can help direct me on how to retrieve my “music” so I can move forward, it would be greatly appreciated. My dad and I have done everything we can think of but can not get any assistance and don’t know what else to do.
    Thank you for your assistance.

  • Connected to iTunes and lost all music and random new songs were added but I can't delete them

I connected my iPod into Itunes (Windows not Mac) and for some reason all my music were deleted. I synched my music again and the default songs that are aready on iTunes were added in my iPod. I can't even delete the default songs now.. Help...

If copying the files took a suspiciously shoort time, are you sure that they were copied?
If you do not have "Copy to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" checked in Edit>>Preferences>>Advanced>>General, then files are left where they are and their loaction is stored in the library.
If this is what happened, your music would play when the external drive is plugged in, but not when it isn't.
If you find this is what happened, you can simply consolidate your library when the external drive is plugged in. (Advanced menu).
This copies files that are not in the iTunes Music folder into it.
