Updated iPod software, and noe I have a "not enough free space" warning...

Sooooooo...
Last night iTunes prompted me that I needed to updated my 4gb nano (2nd G), and after the software loaded, i got an error message about the file being corrupt. After that point, I can load playlists onto it, but it will not load songs checked in "My Library" that are not on playlists. I even went so far to uncheck everything but one song, and it still says "not enough free space"...I tried 4 restores, went through windows explorer and deleted to update file so it could be reinstalled, and still I got nothing...what am i missing??? I also need to mention that I did not add any music before or after the software update, and I was just a little over half full on the meter..I have pooped around with this for 5 hours, and I am utterly stumpped. My iPod is starting to look like a football on a tee if you know what I mean...

    Hello pryan1012,
What this message means is that you have more music in your itunes library than there is free space in your ipod.
I had this same issue at one time. This is what helped me put my music on the ipod. I used manually manage.

  • Question I have a dilemma . I added a lot of songs in my iTunes now when I synced my ipod this message appear "Elma's ipod cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all the items in the iTunes library (additiona

I addesd a lot of songs in my itunes, now when I synced my ipod this message appear "elma's ipod cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all the items in the itunes library (additional 382m is required). Then I uncheck a lot of song and synced my ipod again same message appeared. Do I need to buy a new ipod with more memories? Somebody told me to check apply after I unchecked some of the songs but I cannot find the word APPLY. please help I'm not a very technical person.

The Sync button becomes the Apply button, if you change the iPod's settings in iTunes.  If you are only unchecking songs in the iTunes music library, you click on the Sync button.
When you select the iPod in iTunes, you see the iPod's Summary screen on the main part of the iTunes window.  There is a checkbox there for Sync only checked songs.  Did you check that checkbox?  If you want iTunes to ignore the songs you unchecked when syncing your iPod, that setting needs to be enabled.  If you change that setting, you'll see the the Sync botton has changed to Apply.  Click Apply.
That method of unchecking songs works, but it may become annoying over time, as you need to uncheck more and more songs.  If you want advice on some other more convenient ways to make it work, you can post back.

  • Service Partition - Rescue and Recovery installation fails (not enough free space)

Im am aware about  former posts to this subject  on this forum, but they didn't answer all my questions, so I reopened  the subject.
I tried to install "Rescue and Recovery" on T60 with win XP  Pro and got the following message:
'There is not enough free space in the boot sector to install the Rescue and Recovery boot manager'
I followed the   solution in "Rescue and Recovery installation fails") from 08-09-2008 03:03 AM
and  created a hidden partition with Parted Magic but the rescue and recovery still fails with the same message.
Somewhere in the forum I read that the original service partition has a special format and not ntfs.
Could somebody tell me is it true or not ?
How can I rebuild this service partition ?
Do I need special setting, flags there ?
Is it possible  to rebuild this partition without recovery CDs at all ?
Actually I'm wondering to,  about the error message. It is saying '"..There is not enough free space in the boot sector ..." .
Is it possible  that the boot sector is the problem and not the service partition ?
How can I fix that ?
Thanks in advance if somebody helps.

I have a 4-year-old ThinkPad R51. Because I was getting intermittent boot-up error messages--"Rescue and Recovery has encountered a problem and needs to close"--with ver. 4.0, I tried to upgrade to ver. 4.2.  Per instructions, I first removed ver. 4.0 using Windows Control Panel.  Then each attempt to install 4.2 failed with the message: "Error 25025. There is not enough free space on the computer to install or upgrade the Rescue and Recovery environment."  Just before that error message popped up in center-screen, I got a Windows message at lower right saying "You are running out of space on SERVICEV001 (Z:}"  Of course, there was no way I could view partition Z (that I knew of).
Thanks to the helpful messages above, I downloaded Parted Magic (http://partedmagic.com), burned a boot CD per its instructions, and re-booted with that CD.  Using GParted, I saw that my SERVICEV001 partition was merely 590 MB, and 587 MB was in use.  So I reduced my C partition by 500 MB and added 500 MB to the Z partition, raising it to 1090 MB.  Then I was able to re-boot into Windows and the installation of Rescue and Recovery 4.2 was error-free.
Out of curiosity, I again re-booted with the Parted Magic CD to see how much space on the Z partition was taken by the RnR ver. 4.2 installation.  To my surprise, it showed that still only 587 MB was in use, and 503 MB remained unused.
I thank those in this forum whose messages gave me the needed guidance.  And I thanked the author of Parted Magic with a $10 donation, as I hope other users of his open source program will do.

  • Getting message 'ipod cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all the selected items' when trying to sync both ipod and iphone.

Recently downloaded new itunes when laptop upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. Tried disconnecting and resyncing but that does not work.
The bar across the bottom of my itunes is not full for either device & I don't have an unusually high amount of 'other' on either device.  I am only trying to sync the same amount of music etc as I had before the new itunes, so it should fit onto the devices no problem.  There are no duplicate songs in the new itunes.
    Completely stuck!

I suspect the upgrade has confused the mechanism by which iTunes compares what is on the device already with what your sync options imply will be added. In each case backup the device and then immediately restore the device from its backup. I take it all media is in the library and you're not getting erase & sync messages. Otherwise, or if you sync any contact information, then take a look at Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for some tips.

  • Can not sych iPod after Windows XP re-install..error not enough free space

My laptop required a re-install of Windows XP. Now i receive an error stating iPod cannot be synched because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (19.35 GB requried, 3.06 GB available).
Since nothing has been added to the iTunes library (that I know of) how is this possible?
What do i have to do to correct this?
    Thanks

I was talking about free space on the ipod.
a normal synch did not work.
I believe I have found the what is wrong, but not the actual cause of the problem.
it appears that my itunes library has included every song and video on my computer, even though they were not in itunes before the re-install of the OS. Further, many albums have duplicated themselves in the itunes library. It looks like i will have to go through the entire library in itunes and remove everything that shouldn't be there and remove all of the duplicates.
    thanks

  • IPod not synching as "there is not enough free space" (but there is)

I have a 64Gb iPod touch which I have been having problems with since I bought it.  The problem I am going to decribe has happened three times.
To the best of my memory, this is what has happened.
Starting with a newly purchased  iPod I synched it with my existing library.  This worked and I was able to play songs on the iPod with no problems.  The iPod still had around 8Gb left unused. A few days later I imported a few (maybe 3 or 4)  new CDs into my iTunes library and hit Sync.  The Sync process got as far as step 5 of 5 and hung, I left it for a good hour and it got no further.  I think I may have switched everything off and on again and then retried, this time I got a dialog box saying that the iPod cannot be synched because there is not enough free space to hold all the items in the iTunes library (additional 40Gb required).
Looking on the iPod I could see the full track listing for all my albums, but everything now had a red circle with a dot inside, and was un-playable.  It's as if the songs were all still on the iPod (taking up disk space) but the index had somehow lost track of them (or something).
The only thing I could think of was to reset and restore the device, I also deleted and re-created the iTues library and started again, re-importing everything. Again, this worked fine until I later on inported a new CD to the library and tried to re-sync, whereupon exactly the same thing happened.
I have not been able to find any support questions with quite the same problem I am having - has anyone encountered anything similar and have a solution?

It does have a red circle inside, but I am on Windows 7 and have not upgraded anything.
My problem looks similar to this one Re: iTunes library disappeared, re-added all my songs now iPod doesn't have enough free space to sync.
I can solve it by a compete restore and resync but when I try to add something and sync again I get the same problem and it seems like the only think to be done is to restore everything again, which clearly I can't do every time I add a new CD!

    Hey erinoneill24,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Sounds like you can't update your device. You don't mention an error that it gives you. Take a look at both of these articles to troubleshoot.

If you started your device in recovery mode by mistake, restart it to exit recovery mode. Or you can just wait—after 15 minutes the device will exit recovery mode by itself.

  • IPod cannot be updated because there is not enough free space

iPod cannot be updated because there is not enough free space to hold all of the songs in the iTunes music library. But my iPod does not show any songs. This all strated when I plugged the iPod in to the computer to charge it. I lost my songs on the iPod and cannot update it my play list. My iPod shows up in my iTunes, and show that there is songs there. But why does my iPod not show the songs, it is blank. I have run the gambit today, reset reinstall, updates, the works .... Can anyone please help? I just got this thing and it was working great until this. This has been the most frustrating day I have ever had.

Auto update playlist and music. I tried waht you sugested earlier, and it gave me a diferent message. I have it working, I moved one of the folders out of the iPosd_Control and I am able to see the list in iTunes. One of the songs in the folder could have been corrupted. I thank you for your help. I still do not understand the multi folders. This is a good one for anyone else who gets that message.

  • The iPod cannot be updated because there is not enough free space to hold..

My nano has been working fine until recently, when the following error has come up each time I plug it in:
The iPod cannot be updated because there is not enough free space to hold all of the songs in the iTunes music library, would you like iTunes to choose a selection of songs to copy to this iPod.
This would make sense except that I have my iPod set on Manual Upload of my songs, so iTunes shouldn't even be trying to move all the songs on my iTunes library on to my iPod. I reinstalled iTunes but still no change. The Automatic Upload of my Podcast feature doesn't work as before, and I don't have that many podcasts, and about 250 mb of free space. Anyone know why Manual Upload isn't working right?

The reason why all this is probably happening is because you either have no memory on ur ipod or u have so many songs that in ur itunes that ur ipod cant hold all such as if u have a 1050 songs say and ur ipod only holds 1000 or less then that message would be coming up but dont worry about its just telling u and saying it wants u to get a bigger ipod : )

  • The ipod "ipod" cannot be updated because there is not enough free space...

I am unable to update my ipod nano and get the message "The ipod "ipod" cannot be updated because there is not enough free space to hold all of the songs in the selected playlists." Huh? I have the 4GB nano and currently have 3.55GB used and 181MB free. There are 982 songs (3.8GB) in my "ipod selection." I have no idea why the nano will not update - I recently downloaded the latest update for ipod/itunes on 3/1/06. Can anyone help with this? I have no other playlists checked to update in preferences and cannot figure this out. Very frustrating.

  • My ipod touch say cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the library but I have 10 gb of space left

My ipod touch shows 10.1 gb of memory, but when I try to transfer a movie from my computer to ipod touch I get a error message that says "Cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the itunes library, additional 5.81 gb required.
I have had as many as 3-4 movies on here plus my music and had no problem, there are no other movies on my ipod.  Wasssup???  I am 66 years old, can build a house or a car engine, but for the life of me I don't understand this stuff....Help!!

Unless the move is about 16 GB, you are trying to sync more that the movie to your iPod. I would look carefull at awhat is checked to sync to the iPod.
Also how big is the "other" category as shown in the colored bargraph in iTunes?
