Updated ipod with no music-now music gone! Help!

I put my 1 year old 20g iPod into my brand new eMac, and iTunes wouldnt automatically update songs. The "update iPod" was clicked, and ALL THE SONGS went from my ipod. Now I cant find them/recover them, etc. Help!

Bummer. iPods are designed to download from a computer. It asked you if that's what you wanted to do. If you said yes, it downloaded an empty library to your full ipod, erasing everything.
To see if they are really gone, mount your iPod in Disk Mode. Open the Terminal App and type "cd[space]" - then drag the iPod icon from the desktop to the terminal window.
Type: ls -la
You will get a listing of the iPod directory.
Double click on the directory "iPod_Control" and copy ([command] C).
Type: "cd[space]" and then Paste - [command] P [Note: that way is faster for me than typing "cd iPod_Control"]
Hit return.
Type: ls -la
Type "cd Music"
Type: ls -la
At this point, you will want to be lookig at a lot of Directories: F00, F01, F02, etc - that would be a good thing. That means your music is on your iPod and you didn't really tell iTunes to overwrite your Music Directory with a new empty Library.
If your Music Directory is empty - sorry - I hope you have your files on a different computer somewhere. If not, then drag out the CDs - they were legal copies, right?

  • Cannot update ipod with either music or photos

Yesterday I received my new ipod. When it was being setup, I choose the options of synching music and photos (photos was defaulted to unchecked). After it got all setup, a lot of photos got put into my ipod.
Since then, whenever I try to update my ipod with either photos or music, the same bad result occurs. 2 error messages:
The ipod "owner's ipod" cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-50), followed by:
The ipod "owner's ipod" cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to
I installed itunes a few days ago, so not having the most up-to-date software should be the problem, I assume.
If I don't get a solution soon, I guess I will have to call Apple support, because I am really stumped.

I had also tried to restore, but got a 1418 error.
    BUT I FIXED MY PROBLEM:
    Reinstalled itunes
    Unplugged ipod
    Rebooted pc
    Replugged ipod
In setup screen, for synch photos, picked an empty folder
Now, all the photos in ipod were wiped out. I think maybe a non-photo file was originally sycnhed into the photo folder, causing corruption?

  • Cannot update ipod with music from Music Store (iTunes 5.0)

Since I upgrade to 5.0 (34) the music I have bought and that I can play on my computer cannot be transfered to my ipod.

Anyone has got the same problem?

You are not alone! I have exactly the same problem ... I even tried importing previously transferred protected purchased tracks from my iPod & send them back again but NOPE! (using a natty piece of software called Podworks)
It seems iTunes 5 will not the transfer of ANY protected files to my iPod!
What a breakthrough! We can buy songs from iTunes store but not transfer them to our iPods!

  • Updated iPod to 1.2 , now it tells 'use itunes to restore'. How ?

    Hello, sorry my english.
I have just updated my iPod nano from firmware 1.1.1 to 1.2 using latest iPod Updater 2006-06-28. It went ok.
Then i entered iTunes 6.0.5 and made an eject.
The iPod showed "OK to disconnect". I disconnected.
But now when I turn it on, it shows this message:
    "Use iTunes to restore"
How can I do that? When I open iTunes it behaves like there is nothing wrong with my iPod, it lets me add and remove music with no stress. Also I can't find any option on iTunes to 'restore' my iPod. I know how to do that using the iPod Updater (restoring to factory settings) but I can find any 'restore' option on iTunes like my iPod warns.
Can anyone help me? Thank you.

  • Problem updating iPod with iTunes

I plugged in my iPod base to the computer, then put the iPod into the cradle. When I turned on the computer and opened iTunes, it said it was "updating" without me having to tell it to do so. Now, the iPod is flashing "Do not disconnect", as if it is updating, yet nothing is happening. Music tracks within the iPod are greyed out to show no access??? Help!

Not sure if this will help or not. In the upper right hand corner of your iTunes main window you should see your ID name. If you do not see your name there click on the button in it's place, I think it says login, and log into iTunes. (It's just above the playlist and below the browse or update button.)
You might get a message saying your computer is not authorized. Go ahead and authorize it, again if necessary, and voila! You should be in business.
(If you see your name in that button I am at a loss!)
Check too to see if you have the latest version of iTunes. Could be if you downloaded a new version something goofy happened in the install. Check your preferences too to see if something is checked that should not be.
    Hope that helps a smidgen,

  • Auto-update iPod (with Podcasts)

    Hello all,
I did use "Search" but couldn't find anything related so kindly point me to the source if this has been answered before. Thanks.
How can I auto-update my iPod with selected Podcasts ?
For example, how can I let iTunes (or a script??) copy the contents of a smart folder (containing the podcasts I am after) to the iPod folder.
All I want is to attach my iPod and have it updated automatically ...
    Any ideas?
Thanks a lot for your help,
    chris

If you subscribe to the podcasts inside iTunes, then the episodes will automatically load to the iPod. You can either subscribe to them through the store or directly from the podcaster's website by plugging their XML url into an iTunes' "Subscribe to podcast" command in the Advanced menu.

  • Updated Ipod to ios 6 now apps close without warning and seems really slow also wifi doesn't always connect

Updated my ipod touch to ios6 now apps close without warning and seems really slow to repsond. Also doesn't always connect to the Wifi never had any problems before upgrade

Try a hard reboot (hold home and power buttons down at the same time until your iPod reboots). If that doesn't work, do a restore in iTunes and do not restore from backup. You wqill lose your game data and settings, but your iPod should run better and work properly.

    Hello gunselsenol!
I'm not sure if this will be your answer, but here is something to try: assigning your iPod a different drive letter.
    Try following these steps below:
1 - Don’t plug in your iPod yet.
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, reset your iPod, and connect it.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).
For more details, see this article:

    I hope this helps,

  • After 1.1.1 update: iPod locks the phone during music playback

My iPhone gets locked during music playback. It worked fine during the the first few hours after the upgrade but now it stalls or locks up completely. Anyone else experiencing the same?

First, for safety, do a quick diagnostic of the iPod.
You can do this by starting a sync as usual with iTunes, then enabling Disk Use. Now, go to Utilities/Disk Utility on your desktop, and perform a diagnostic - it should take only a few seconds. Now, go back onto iTunes and Disable Disk Use (so you can take your cable out).
As long as you have the iTunes desktop up, click Check for Updates, and then Update. (They update thee software every month.)

  • Apple:please update itunes with ability to disable music store permenanty

Although I believe you when you say you are not storing data on your users, I still would feel more comfortable not having the music store open unless I open it. I should not be connected to you everytime I open itunes , please include the option to disable this default. I should never be connected to the internet just because I want to listen to my own music.

My issue isn't so much with Apple seeing what songs I'm playing, and it's cool that you can just turn the feature off. After all, I'm a loyal Apple customer who regularly buys songs from iTMS and even computers and stuff from Apple Store (I own 3 Macs, 1 Airport Express, and 1 iPod).
My concern is this third-party involvement:
    http://since1968.com/article/155/omniture-itunes
I don't like Apple sending any info of mine to a 3rd party for some nefariously furtive reason, regardless of how well it's legally bulwarked in their EULA.

  • Empty Ipod with over 20g of music and video on it

Okay, so I have a wierd problem. My 30g Ipod has a little over 20g of songs and video on it, but it isn't showing up in either Itunes or on my Ipod itself. I attached it to my computer and it acted like I'd never hooked it up before and when I got it into Itunes it acted like the Ipod didn't have anything on it, but, it still shows that a little over 20g of information on it. The problem is I don't want to completely reset it because some videos on my ipod aren't on my computer anymore and it would be really expensive to re-download them from Itunes. I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to what might be wrong and how to fix it (hopefully) without losing my data.

one way to check this out is hit the Windows button and the "E" key that brings up an explorer window, hit the "tools" button then "folder options" then "view" tab then under "hidden files and folders" check the box "show hidden files and folders" now go to your iPod in the explorer window [it shows as a HDD [hard drive]]click the "+" sign then click "iPod control" then click "music" ... and, [hopefully for you] your music will show up in a long list of folders, click any one of these and see what you have. Apple has this hidden so the artists tunes are not shared wrongfully. {The tunes are not labeled so as to be helpfull here but you could transfer them from here by dragging and dropping or coping if nothing else works}. The only thing I could add is sit in front of the Roaring Stoney River's mouth on Birch Lake and jig for Walleye on Opener And. You. Will. Catch. Walleye. ok then.

  • Update ios 5.0.1 now music app crush

    crush when playing music

That huge amount of "other" means that you had a corrupt sync at some point and that is probably causing your problem. "Other" is all of your app data, bookmarks, contacts, emails, calendar items, Safari history and things of that nature. It should never balloon to that big of a size. You are doing what you have to do to remove that massive "other" content - you do have to restore your iPad.
    Good luck!
BTW .... One other suggestion that might have helped would have been to unsync all of your music - uncheck the Sync Music heading in iTunes and then sync to "remove" all of the music. Then quit iTunes, restart iTunes - Check the Sync Music heading this time and sync again. Sometimes that will work to restore the music to the iPad.

  • Trying to update ipod with different computer

Ok, so I just got my laptop back from Toshiba, and wanted to add some songs to my ipod. (Take in mind that Toshiba wiped my computer before they sent it back, and my ipod has only been used with that laptop), so when I went to update my ipod it deleted all 1241 songs from my ipod and replaced them with the 4 I wanted to add. So I need to know how do you update with other computers. Like my desktop for example, I can;t update my ipod on it now without deleting my entire library of songs......Maybe I should go back to iriver
