Updated iTouch to 2.2 application and it ERASED all of my music and movies

I have an iPod iTouch 32GB that I bought over a year ago. Today, I updated my iTouch with the application update 2.2 from my Mac and it erased all my music from my iTouch. When I tried to manually drag my music from my Mac over to my iTouch, it did not work. It took me over a year to purchase music, download and get my iTouch organized and now because of the recent update of the 2.2 application, it wiped everything off my iTouch and I cannot find the fix. I still have my music and movies on my Mac but it will not let me copy it to my iTouch. I read the help menu and some of the discussion and nothing remotely helpful is available to help me drag my music and movies from my computer to my iTouch. Am I supposed to re-purchase the music and movies again? What's the fix to put back all of my music from my Mac to my iTouch when dragging or synching does not work. Did my music/movies expire? I tried contacting Apple and guess what, they are not available to answer support questions from us.

Did you try going to back version 2.1? I assume thats what you had before going to 2.2?
Do to so, in your iTunes, click on your iTouch. Shift click the "restore" button and you should see a few .IPSW files. Find the one that says 2.1 and let iTunes recover your iTouch.
Hope this helps!

my ipod is not recognized by my itunes and tells me to uninstall itunes and reinstall it.  will this erase all of my music?

    Hi braddyloopy,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes,  your music files should not be erased or affected in any way. It is always a good idea to back up your data before making any changes to your computer, though.
If you'd like to locate your music, this article explains how to find the files:
Where are my iTunes files located?

When you reinstall iTunes, I'd recommend using the method in this article to make sure it's reinstalled completely:

On my iPhone, I have songs from a CD that I bought and no longer have. I now have a new computer and it is telling me that to move songs that I only have on my computer, I must erase all of the music from my iPhone (It also says that my phone is already synced with another computer so it has to download everything). I would like to keep all of the music on my Phone and still be able to have these songs from my computer on my iPhone. Help!

The iPhone is not a storage device. iPhone is designed to sync with 1 computer and
iPhone sync only one way computer -> iPhone except content bought from iTunes.

  • Will the new ipod software update erase all of the music off my ipod??

will the new ipod software update erase all of the music off my ipod??

Unless you plan to restore it, if all you are doing is updating the firmware then nothing will be erased from your iPod. Even if it was you just have to reload from iTunes or your back up.

  • I bought a new laptop and accidently erased all of my music

I bought a new laptop and was trying to sync when I accidently erased all of my music, can I get it back?

Were the files erased from the internal drive (of the computer), or from the device?  If they are no longer on the computer's HDD then you had better hope that you backed up your files with a Time Machine back up, a cloned copy of your hard drive or copies transferred to an separate external drive. If they have been erased from the device  then it is a simple matter of loading them back to the iPod.

    Hi,
To restore your music, connect to your computer's iTunes and try the following settings.
Then hit the Apply button on bottom right. I find it best to select "sync only checked songs and videos" in the Options in Summary.
    Good luck

  • Tried to sync my itouch with my laptop and accidentally erased all of my music.  HELP! Is there any way to recover my 800  songs?

I attempted to sync my ipod touch with my laptop and accidentally wiped out all of my music!  How can I recover my 1000+ songs?!!!  PLEASE HELP!

All media should be in the iTunes library on your computer.
Syncing is ONE way from computer to iPhone.
If the media was on your device, but not in your computer, then it's likely gone.
Do you have a backup of your media somewhere else? Like an external drive?

  • My iPad is a 16 GB, it says I have 0 space left even after I erase all my pictures, music, games, and other unnecessary apps. It will not let me download anything. This doesnt make any sense??

I use my iPad for school and I only have a few apps on there. I have zero pictures/videos. 2 textbooks that dont take up the whole storage space so that isnt the problem. I have no music. When I go into usage in settings, it says 0 bytes available and says my photos and camera are taking up a considerably large amount of space. What gives?

How much space is Other using? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • When I plug my IPOD touch into my dell computer all it shows are my picture.  I am afraid if I update the software on the IPOD it will erase all my music.

When I plug my IPOD touch into my Dell computer it comes up with Judy's IPOD, the click on where it says internal storeage then a folder comes up that says DCIM then click on that and another folder comes up 800AAAAA and when you click on that all you see if pictures.  I am afraid to update the software on the IPOD I am afraid it will erase all my songs.  Does anyone have any idea what the problem or can I update the software without fear of losing all my songs.

You have to follow these instructions. When they say restore from backup your iPod will also be updated.

  • I have a ipad with all of my songs on it, my old computer recently shut down and now i want to download all of my songs on my ipad to my new itunes. how can i do this without erasing all of my music?

my computer recently shut down and all of my itunes was lost.  My ipad still has all of my songs on it. How can i download all of my music onto my new itunes. would i need a different acount?

    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

I have a refurbished ipod touch 4th Gen.  I am having problems backing up because the cloud is almost full. I have tried to delete some apps/pics but it won't let me. Do I need to purchase more storage? Also, I accidentally erased all stored music. It is still on my personal computer and I need to know how to get it back on my ipod. A family member set it up for me.

You said " I accidentally erased all stored music.".
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Your iCloud backup does not include non-iTunes purchases like music from CDs
    If on your iPod now:

I got a new computer for home and I am trying to transfer all of my music, movies, photos and apps from my IPAD.  I have been using my work computer ofr this in the past but want to change to my new home computer.  I can't figure out how to do this without erasing everything from it.

    Syncing with new computer
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.

  • Just updated my OS to os5...why did all of my music and video file turn into an "other" file and how do I fix it?

I just updated to OS5 and all of my video and music files are gone and now I have an inaccessible "other" file about the size of the of the old music and video files.  When I go to sync music files in itunes they never show up on the phone.  Help!

Never mind.  Just read some similar questions and tried restoring it to backed up version and now everything seems to be working.  What a relief!

  • After automatically updating when I turned on the computer, Firefox erased all my History from the end of September until the update yesterday; how can I get back all the searches in my Show All History?

When I opened Firefox and it automatically updated yesterday, all my search history from then back to the end of September was wiped clean from the "Show All History." I very much need that search history, which is essential for my research. I didn't bookmark it because I knew it would always be there. But it's not. Please help.

Firefox tarballs from Mozilla Org use prefs within Firefox for updates. The "toggle" for not automatically updating - '''app.update.enabled''' and where to look for updates - '''app.update.url'''. The first needs to be '''''false''''' and the second could be a '''''null''''' string, do an update can't be found.
''I use both prefs to keep Firefox from updating by itself. I install each new version of Firefox as it is released, and keep the older versions around for reference purposes. Those prefs are the same since Firefox 1.5 came out.''
The versions of Firefox that are part of an operating system installation usually are that OS's own build of Firefox, and don't use the same update setup as Mozilla uses, in most cases. I am not familiar with Cent OS, but Ubuntu and Debian look for Firefox updates and from their own program repository servers outside of Firefox - as with the tarballs from Mozilla.

  • Update 12.1.1.4 erased all my files (music, videos, playlists, everything). How do I revert to earlier version to get that back?

I opened iTunes tonight to import a CD and it asked me to update. Sure, fine, go ahead. Computer restarts after update and EVERYTHING is gone. I had 20+ videos, over 3k songs, all sorted into playlists, podcasts... it's all gone. How do I get that back? Can I uninstall the update and go back to the earlier version of iTunes? And when I plug in my iPad to sync, will it wipe everything off of there, as well??? I'm a fitness instructor, I have over a year's worth of playlists and routines that are now gone.

You're welcome .  Note, though, that iTunes doesn't really keep "backup files" - it does replicate the library database (iTunes Library.itl) during the installation of an update if (and only if) that update makes a change to the database structure.  The most recent of these was the transition from iTunes 11.4 to iTunes 12.0.  On the basis that:
Computers tend to fail at the least convenient moment
Hard drives fail. Always. You just don't know when its going to happen
There is no process that can be 100% guaranteed not to mess with your data
creating and maintaining a backup of your iTunes library is just about essential. See tt2's notes on Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for details of a suitable method.  If you make frequent additions or changes to your library you should refresh the backup every couple of days - at a minimum I'd suggest once a week - and always make sure that the backup is up to date before installing a new version of iTunes.  I actually use two backup strategies - one that runs automatically at 3am every Sunday morning, plus as-needed updates to a second external drive that I use to refresh two other systems that I run iTunes on.
