Updated itunes, now everything is gone

When updating from itunes 3.1 to 4.2.1 everything on the ipod appears to be gone. Contacts, calendar, apps, music, etc. Tried to right click to restore to backup there isn't anything to backup from.

Your contacts would be in whatever program you have chosen to sync with, as will the calendar info.
Music will be in itunes, as will the apps, videos, movies, tv shows.
Pictures will be wherever you keep them on your computer.

Accepted update and now everything is gone

I connected an ipod touch and did update then got a message saying in recovery mode.Nothing is showing under device in itunes and Ipod shows pic of usb cord and itunes logo.Won't turn on. Help please my daughter made a movie of my sisters wedding on Saturday and she won't stop crying.

You should always make sure that you have imported all pics/vids to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera, most especially before any updtae/restore/etc.
If you have failed to do this, then the are gone.
You can try restoring it from backup.

Did you actually download the installer from Apple or did you use Software Update. You can download the installer http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Maybe I'm old fashioned but I would consider repairing permissions first using Disk Utility because something caused this to go wrong the first time. And of course make a backup of your whole library first. It shouldn't happen but some have complained about their libraries being wiped out by iTunes updates. Better safe...

like a say though, not showing up in itunes still
before it recently had this failure, it had shown up as corrupted and that it needed restoring (but i was holding off, as i manually managed all music and was hoping for a way to back it all up, to no avail)
first time posting here, would appreciate a quick answer because tempted to just click the 'restore device defaults' option

If the icon is hidden behind another, or if it's available inside the Customize mini window, you can place it back. HELP! Clicked format...now everything is gone!!!

I connected my blackberry curve 9360 device to the computer to get the new 7.1 software for blackberry. First I got app error 200 on my phone screen, then when that got fixed, my phone was completely wiped. It then said my media card has errors on it and repairing has failed, so I went to settings and accidentally clicked format media card. Now everything is GONE, but the phone and apps like whatsapp are still working...
Does anyone know how I can get all of my data back that was on my media card before I formatted it?

Do you have a full backup of your data including the media card saved on the computer? If not, then the data can not be retreived.

I updated iTunes now i get this error "iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes."
Is it going to count this computer again as another copy of all my songs. This computer is at least two of the 'copies' of many of my songs. Some songs thing they're on even more computers that that.
How can I de-authorize the computer if the program won't run anymore?

You should get your keyboard checked as it's repeating on a lot of keys and makes you look silly.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
