Updated itunes to v12 and ipod frozen

Today I updated my itunes to version 12 and also updated my Ipod touch to newer OS , i think from 3 to 4 , it took about 90mins to back up and then update , the itunes update seems Ok but at the end of update to Ipod , the update crashed .
The device is now frozen with a frustrating logo of apple and empty bar under. device will not switch off or respond to any touch or home button,, its been like that for 2 hours now.
I looked at other solutions on community , re restore but not possible , but itunes will not recognise the ipod even though i am using apple usb connector , which worked for the itunes v 12 upload.
I am using windows xp , and Norton security systems,  i am not sure what the generation model of ipod is but its about 4 years old with 8GB ( with 3GB available)
Considering this is all Apple software/hardware and they have just announced a $140 Billion profit I think we are all being had , but as i have been at this for 5 hours now and am a 68 year old its not surprising.
I tried to use apple support but it just says browser not uptodate , I have internet explorer v 8 , which works fine for other web sites . It maybe suits Apple to avoid supporting  in a more positive way and get the community to do their work?
any ideas bar putting a hammer to the ipod? and my brain?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • ITunes has detected and Ipod in Recovery Mode...

After in stalling ITunes 7 on my Windows XP machine, I received the following error when I tried to sync my IPod. "ITunes has detected and Ipod in Recovery Mode. You must restore this IPod before it can be used with ITunes." After completing the restore, it tells me to leave my IPod connected. Then it just comes back with the exact same message about recovery mode. Now I have an Ipod with no songs on it, and I am unable to sync it with ITunes any longer. Does anyone have any solutions to this bug. Everything was working perfectly prior to installing ITunes version 7.0.1.8.

I had the exact same problem with my new 8 gb Nano. I tried putting the Nano into disk mode as was suggest in another discussion thread, but that did not make any difference. I finally discovered that my shutting the computer down and not logging onto the network after it rebooted, Itunes was able to recognize the Nano correctly, and proceeded with installing my music. If you are using a home or work network I would try not logging into it before you update your Ipod.

  • Updating iTunes 12.1 and get error message "The procedure entry point CMBlockBufferCopyDataBytes could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreMedia.dll - what went wrong and how to resolve this?

Updating iTunes 12.1 and get error message "The procedure entry point CMBlockBufferCopyDataBytes could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreMedia.dll". What went wrong and how to resolve this?

Entry point errors can often be fixed by deleting the offending dll, then repairing the component it is part of.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases.
Or roll back to the previous build:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)

I have the same problem.   It's showing old podcasts that are available for download and I already watched and I don't want to see them again and I don't want them listed in my iTunes.  This latest upgrade is a piece of junk so far.   It destroyed my itunes podcast listing on my Windows Machine.   I have no intentions of upgrading to iOS7 or my Mac until I hear that things are fixed.

    Thank you!

Well, I hadn't rebooted after the 7.1.1 upgrade, but obviously I had to restart iTunes. After I rebooted my iBook iTunes worked... Maybe the 7.1.1 update should be marked with a must reboot?

I have tried different usb ports, computers, reinstalled the software, reset the ipod. But iTunes keeps wanting to restore the iPod.

  • Shuffle Update after installing iTunes 5.x and iPod 1.1.2

I installed iTunes 5.0.1.4 and ran the iPod Updater 2005-09-23 and now my iTunes will not update the songs on my iPod Shuffle (it actually erased my songs). I have totally uninstalled iTunes and the Updater 2005-09-23 and re-installed them per another post on the forum. Prior to installing the new iTunes everything was working okay. I should also mention that the amber and green lights flash when I try to play anything - i.e. maybe the iTunes download was coincidental and not the problem. Any insight or help would be appreciated.

    I have tried the following:
    1) Uninstalled the iPod Updater.
    2) Uninstalled iTunes 5.0.x
    3) Rebooted
    4) Deleted the C:\Program Files\iPod folder
    5) Reinstalled iTunes 4.7.x from my IPS install CD
    6) Reinstalled the iPod software from the CD
In the middle of the reinstall of the Windows iPod software it asks you to connect the IPS to see if it needs formated. It recognized my iPod and said that it did in fact need to be formated. I gave it the Ok and it came back telling me that it had trouble communicating with the IPS and to disconnect and reconnect. I did so, same story again.
It seems that iTunes 5 and the latest updater hosed the IPS hardware or firmware somehow. Needless to say, I'm not happy.

    what happened?
    how do i solve this?
what will happen when i reconnect it to my pc?
will it ever be read on my mac again?

    Jennifer,
Welcome to the discussions. I'm not quite sure what happened here. However, I have a few questions. Currently, if you plug your iPod into your Mac, does it show up in iTunes? Have you run the latest iPod updater on your PC? Now, are both of your iTunes versions the same on Mac and PC?

This is most likely a software conflict (or series of them) in windows.
First, make sure you have Service Pack 4. Second, make sure you are using the USB ports on the back of your machine, as often any ports on the front are low-powered and can cause interface problems. Third, make sure your iPod is NOT connected when you boot up your machine. Fourth, make sure the username you are working under on your computer has the necessary permissions to run programs, download, install updates, restore, etc.
Then make sure that all of your hardware drivers are up to date; USB, sound card and firewall drivers are probably most important here. Also, make sure you have uninstalled any older versions of iTunes that may still be on your system, in your registry. You will also probably want to clean up any background programs that might be conflicting, such as AVG or other anti-virus/spyware monitoring programs. Step by step instructions for all this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
Also, check both of these out
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42963

You may also want to try a disk defragmenter, disc scan (accessed Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> system tools), virus and spyware scan.

  • Downloaded new iTunes/iPod updater, iTunes now crashes during iPod updating

I downloaded the new iTunes and iPod updater yesterday-- now when I plug my iPod into the USB, it recognizes my iPod, the "Updating iPod. Do not disconnect." message comes up, but as soon as "Updating Track 1 of 9." appears, I get a Send Error Report message "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. etc" (I wasn't sure what, if anything, I shoudl include here from the Error Report Contents.) Has anyone else encountered this or have any tips? I've tried the uninstall/reinstall trick to no avail.
    Thanks!

I fixed this for my Nano by using the iPod Updater Restore to revert the firmware to version 1.0 and removing iTunes 6.0.2 through Control Panel. I didn't delete the leftover directories. I then reinstalled iTunes version 6.0.1.3.
The Nano is now happily recopying all my music. Should be done by midnight.
    Good luck.
