Unfortunately there isn't anything else you can remove without it affecting the function of the Maps app, I wouldn't delete the wifi support, it's an additional positioning feature that comes with maps3.04. Sorry

  • What can I safely delete?

I started with GB v1 and have updated thru v2 to v3. I'm now left with the problem of the original GarageBand loops being duplicated. I have read the links in this forum about re-indexing but upon exploring my Finder files, I discovered the following, with the subsequent questions which I'd like to clear up before I delete ANYTHING:
    1) /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Apple Loops/Apple Loops for GarageBand/ has 1,106 loops in its folder. The identically named folder in the /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/ has the same loops plus an 92 additional loops. Does that mean the latter is more up-to-date than the former so the former would be the one to erase?
    2) Can I safely move all remaining Apple Loops (GarageBand JamPack and Jam Pack 3 Rhythm) out of /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Apple Loops/ into /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/ to join the others (GarageBand, iLife Sound Effects, Jam Pack 4 Symphony and Jam Pack World Music) so as to have all in one location?
    3) I also discovered as well as in the usual /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index, I have also indexes in ~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops Indexes/, plus in ~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops/, I also have aliases pointing to the folders in /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Apple Loops/User Loops. Can I also safely delete this indexes? Can I safely move the folders in question 2 and delete the aliases to them in my user folder?
    Many thanks,
    David

Thanks guys, all done and it hasn't exploded yet so everything obviously okay.
One new questions has surfaced though; in my Apple Loops World Music folder, there are 15 didgerido loops but the browser only shows 10. I've retrashed the index files twice to no avail and also studied the index file itself which clearly shows all didgerido files in the index, but they just don't appear in the browser.
    Any ideas?

  • HT4847 Out of storage on my handset. What can I safely delete?

I have run out of storage space on my handset but still have plenty of storage left in iCloud. If I delete my pictures in my camera roll, will that solve my problem and will those pictures be in the cloud where I can access them?

Your photos must be transferred to a computer or other online photo service. Only 1000 new photos are stored in iCloud's Photo Stream for 30 days. Photos in the Camera Roll are backed up in the iPhone's Backup file but once you delete them then update the backup they will be deleted there as well.
I always recommend using the Camera Roll just like an old film and a temporary place to store your photos before processing them. Photos are irreplaceable and should have at least 2 copies backed up on 2 different storage devices, and an iOS device should not be one of them.
You can also look in the iPhone's Settings/General/Usage to see what is taking up your space to see what you need to manage to free some up. iTunes also has a handy little graph at the bottom of the iPhone's sync settings for this purpose as well.

  • What can I safely delete/move from full startup disk?

I have a full startup disk running both 9.2 and 10.3.9. I have a back up external hard drive (and about to add another). What has to stay on the startup disk...this "root" thing I keep hearing about? Can the Previous Systems folder be dragged to the trash? Can the Applications Folders (OSX) and the Applications Folder and Desktop (OS9) be copied to the external hard drive. What Library Folders have to stay. Any help would be greatly appreciated by this non-geek.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Discussions.
If you have a FireWire external drive you can backup your entire internal HDD to the FW drive. I would suggest using Carbon Copy Cloner. First go to Preferences in CCC and check the boxes to make bootable, repair permissions and synchronization. Then Clone your entire drive. You can now use your external HDD as a startup drive.
Instead of trying to recover space on your 10 GB internal HDD by deleting items, I would suggest installing a larger HDD. They are relatively inexpensive and will be a more lasting solution to your space issues.
I recently installed a 100 GB drive and it has not only given me more storage capacity, but it has increased performance both in speed and stability. Using an internal with lots of space as the startup helps prevent crashes due to overlapping volume structures and immproves performance by allowing more room for virtual memory. The newer drives are also faster: you can choose between 5400 rpm and 7200 rpm.
When you are ready to install a new internal HDD you just clone your FW HDD back to the new drive.
Post back with further questions or comments.
    Good luck.

  • Firefox is using too much memory what can I safely delete

I am not a techie so I need an answer or solution in simple words. My Firefox usage is 195MB and I continue to be alerted by Norton that it is too much. I am not sure which version I have downloaded, I think it is the latest edition how can I verify this? When I download a new version are all the other Firefox downloads removed? This elderly marginally computer savvy person is trying to fix it herself....due help!

verify version : go to HELP, then ABOUT FIREFOX and you see the latest version, 6 is the latest stable
yes when you download AND INSTALL a new version the previous one removed

Never mind. I kept trying, and finally when I opened "About This Mac" and clicked the software update from there (as opposed to the "Software Update" just below), the Java update finally worked.

Hi i want to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to OS X Mavericks or OS X Yosemite. My software update menu dosnn´t find any updates available. Help please, what can i do to upgrade to OS X Mavericks or newer version?

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, the computer's also incompatible with Mountain Lion and Mavericks; if desired, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

this is my iphone 4  ECID: ******, now restore or update showing error code 1 what can i do now?

    From the article:
Error 1 means that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
1.Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
2.Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
3.Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
4.If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • HT2476 I got my Macbook Pro from another user (different apple id) and now i'm not able to update iPhoto and iMovie. What can i do?

I got my Macbook Pro from another user (different apple id) and now i'm not able to update iPhoto and iMovie. What can i do?

You need to contact Apple and transfer that computer, the serial number, into your name and your Apple ID. Then you should be able to update the included Apple Apps from the App store. No need to Re-buy them again.
    Caveat to the above.
If your Mac did not originally come with Lion Preinstalled, early releases of early 2011 models and older, and originally had Snow Leopard installed the original owner should of supplied the Mac OS X System Discs with the system. If that person didn't you should order them from Apple at a small fee, and don't lose them.

Ok . What should i do here . Iam i update or no . Im bought this iphone 1week ago and i bought it with jailbreaking and i want update to 6.1.3  what can i do?? My device is on 6.1.2)  my iphone is not international i can only start with 1SIm  i heared tjat if i upate my Device it likely willnot camebackagain..! Is that right.. Thankes.!

Apple considers jailbreak a misuse of product.  Any Apple.com site will refuse to support.
If you bought it with jailbreak intentionally, you made a mistake.
If you found out only after purchase, get your money back by returning it.

  • Need more ram on 10.4.11, what can i safely dump?

need more ram on 10.4.11, what can I safely dump after saving on x-ternal h/d?

OS X 10.4 is Tiger, and 10.4.11 is the last release. It's been stable for quite some time, so I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade to it. The next operating system upgrade would be to Leopard 10.5, and with a MacBook you could probably upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.
When upgrading within an operating system release, ie 10.4.10 to 10.4.11, you don't typically have issues. When going to the next level of operating system, that's where you can run into issues with printer or other drivers and/or programs that need to be updated to run with the newer operating system.  With the exception of losing the OS X classic environment when upgrading to 10.5 Leopard and losing the Rosetta emulator (which runs PowerPC code on Intel platforms) when upgrading to 10.7 Lion, for the most part, the upgrades are pretty straight forward.

  • What files can be safely deleted?

I love my 400 MHz TiBook but its 10 GB hard drive is filling up. I have approx. 1.5 GB of free space left. What files that can be safely deleted? Can I delete extraneous printer files, modem files, packages, etc? I use MacJanitor to clean out caches and I don't have any music or photo files that might be causing the bloat. Also, before I delete anything I will back my hard drive up to a FW drive with SuperDuper.

Hi, Fred. You're wise to be thinking about how little free space you have left now, before the operation of your Powerbook is seriously impaired. But rather than just nibble away at the contents of your drive, which will only buy you a small amount of time before you're back where you started, you should be thinking about replacing your tiny 10GB hard drive with a larger one. You could easily get a 60GB drive for $50 plus the cost of shipping, and installing a drive in a Tibook is very simple — a 20-minute job at the outside. Then you'd just start up from the external FireWire drive on which you've cloned your 10GB drive, and use SuperDuper to clone its contents onto the new drive. The whole drive swap and data transfer, including the original cloning, could probably be accomplished in less than two hours. Then you wouldn't have to worry about hard drive space for a long time to come.
For expert guidance on what you can do in the short term to regain disk space, see this.

  • Which files can I safely delete in my Pictures Folder/ iPhoto Library

    Hello
Thanks in advance for any advice on the following. I am trying to free up some space on my Macbook Pro hard drive. In the Pictures/ iPhoto Library folder, I seem to have a lot of duplicates. At this folder level, I have series of sub folders with years 2002-2006 listed, and there is also a folder titled data, which also has subfolders 2002-2006. Can I safely delete one set of folders without losing my pictures?
    Thank you
    Jonathan

    Johnathan:
In a word, NONE. Those are all necessary item for the operation of the library. Those files in the Originals folder are obviously the originals. Those in the Data folder are the thumbnails iPhoto uses to display in the main library window. The Modified files are those that you've editied, rotated, etc. To do any moving, renaming or editing of files directly from the folder is tantamount to committing the cardinal sin of iPhoto: Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder.
What with the low cost of external FW HDs, they are a very cost effective way to protect and preserve important files. As you may know it's recommended to have a minimum of 10G free space for optimum performance of the system and applications. More if possible. You can use Monolingual to remove any language module you don't need (be sure not to select English or American English and DO NOT run any of the Architecture items). I saved nearly 900MB the first time I ran it.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
