Updated my 3GS to iOS 6.1.3...

I use an iphone 3gs and i recently updated to ios 6.1.3.Nnow I can't connect to gamecenter(as in it just has that annoying spinner on every tab inside it), or open safari(as in it crashes) and everytime I open an app that relies on wifi, it tells me to sign in to gamecenter so I put in my apple ID and it just won't sign me in. Any fixes for this or is this just a terrible update?

Sounds like your upgrade when wrong
I would try to do a restore from iPhone and see if that helps

Since the update, Itunes says that no SIM card is detected, and the iPhone says that it cannot be activated. It also obviously does not detect any network.
I tried restarting the phone several times, removing the SIM card several times, but it did not change anything, the SIM is still not detected.

You do not need to keep posting the same thing over and over again.

I want to make sure I'm doing it in a way that will keep important things like my text history intact on the new phone.
Since that's not something that is "synced" but I believe is rather kept in the backup, does that mean I have to "restore" the new phone from a backup of the old phone? And if so, does the ios have to match on the backup?

I work for an Enterprise with around 30 devices so far, 5 of them have been upgraded to iOS 5.01 and we are having this issue, the steps below are appearing, these are both on iphone and ipad 2's with exchange 2003:-
- Exchange Calendars not sync'ing, but Yahoo account working fine.
- Create an appointment on the ipad / iphone and this sync's with Exchange.
- Close the Calendar and re-open the appointment disappears, but stay's within Exchange.
- Meetings created within the Exchange Calendar do not synch with the iphone / ipad.
This is starting to cause a lot of issues.

I've been weary about updating my iphone 3gs from ios 4 (4.3.5 to be exact) to the new ios 5. I didn't have a problem sitting on an older update untill my phone started acting up and the only thing to do to fix it is to do a restore. itunes is forcing me to update in order to restore (didn't used to do that untill the new itunes update came out a while back...makes me angry) therefore causing a bit of concern with me. I do recall how the 3G acted when the ios 4 came out, and my worry is will the iphone 3Gs do something simmilar or worse. What are the experiances you guys have had with it, both good and bad, I'm curious. Also is it a good idea to update the 3gs to the ios 5 or not.

Today I updated my stock iphone 3gs to IOS 5.01 from 4.3.5. All went well until I noticed that my apps had not be restored. I attempted to restore my phone in iTunes but now all I get is "There is a problem with your iphone" message appear in iTunes and on my device.
What can I do to restore the phone to working condition? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking about updating my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5, but I've heard that it would run slow on my phone. How much slower does it run on the 3GS and is it worth the trouble?

I wouldn't worry about the speed too much. I have a 3GS as well, and I updated today. I'm still not up to 100% functionality though. I can't get the wi-fi sync to work properly, and I had about 90 minutes worth of troubles with the restoring from backups and finally getting everything back to how I had it on 4.x.x. Also, the "location based" part of the new Reminders app doesn't seem to work on the 3GS. I took a peek around the net, and others seem to have the same problem. Oh well.
My advice – definitely update, the phone can handle it.
**However, make sure you've got the time and patience. Once you're done, you won't regret it.

My daughter has bought a 3gs which is currently running 4.1. Can it be updated any further and how would she do this? when the phone is plugged into iTunes and we click the update button is just says iTunes is running the latest version and doesn't update the phone.

I updated my software for my iPhone 3GS to ios 6 and didn't have it plugged in, as I never had to before. My battery was at 100% when it started and the update drained my battery. Now my iphone is in limbo, it tells me that my software is updated, but I need a few more steps, when I connect to itunes, it connects and disconnects itself and itunes can't read my iphone and wants me to restore it. The problem is that I didn't back up my photos and don't want to lose anything. How can I get my pics and contacts off of my iphone?

To minimise loss... Connect to iTunes on the computer you Usually Sync with and Restore from the most recent Backup...

after updating my iphone 3gs to the IOS 5 firmware my phone has no service it says searching then goes back to no service i tried reseting it contacting ATT and they could not figure out the problem what can i do also the battery drains faster like in 10 to 30 minutes is fully drained. Perform a restore without restoring from a backup and see if that resolves the issue. You could erase the phone from the phone itself if you don't want to mess with iTunes. I'd just backup with iCloud before doing this to make it really easy.
Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings
Post back with your results. If that doesn't resolve your problem, you're more than likely looking at a hardware problem on the phone, which is probably out of warranty by now.

The 3Gs will run iOS 6.1.3. You need to install the current version of iTunes on your computer to perform the update.
The 3G, on the other hand, won't run anything higher than 4.2.1.
