Updated Phone and now it is locked

I have an old 2g that I gave to my daughter for an ipod when I upgraded to a newer phone. I was syncing music to the 2g and noticed that there was a software update. Once the update was complete the phone was locked as there isn't a sim card in it. Itunes wants to activate the phone, but I just want to use it as an ipod. How do I unlock it without the sim card?

Then you're gonna have to go to an AT&T store & get a sim card. Tell them you need a deactivated sim card to use to activate your original iphone. They will most likely charge you for the sim since I gather you don't have an account with AT&T. There is no way around this fact, you need an AT&T sim card to activate your phone.

Restore, if iTunes will let you. Everything except the password will be restored. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. Be forewarned that it takes a long time. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

just so you all don't think i can't read i tried restoring my phone but it is telling me that it can't restore the phone because it is locked. i'm not entirely sure how i entered a password in twice incorrectly, but go figure. does anyone have anyother ideas other than restoring it?

Updated Safari and now it's locked

My browser kept telling me I was using an outdated version of safari so I finally updated it. Only to find out that my operating system doesn't support the newest version. Now the icon is grayed out and locked. I searched out to fix this but it was recommended I reinstall my operating system. Won't that make me lose everything saved!?!? I'm starting to get annoyed. HELP!!

Hi. if you don't want to reinstall your operating system. and have another browser you can use. Go to apple/support/downloads/browse by product and type in safari 5.1 or 5.1.9 That is the newest safari that will run on your operating system.

Itunes updated files and now I'm locked out - help

So I just plugged my Ipod classic into the PC to charge it and Itunes opens up and says 'updating files'.
The old files (over 20gb of music and movies) are still on it, but it looks in the usage bar to have compartmentalized them off.
It then copied the whole lot over again... so now all the same files are on it twice.
And when I turn it on it has no files. No music, movies or the games i've downloaded. Nothing.
2 days ago I logged into my apple account on Itunes and downloaded a game for the Ipod. It didn't try to update it then, and didn't earlier today when I plugged it in. But this time it did what I mentioned above.
So now I can't access any of my music or movies on it. Help.
Will I have to restore it and start again?
EDIT: I've just plugged it in again, and it has added the 2nd lot to the compartmentalized files and tried to copy it all over again. So I forced it to stop syncing and ejected it.

Nevermind.
I called the number on my warranty we ended up having to restore it and start over.
Still don't know what caused the issue in the first place, so ill leave this marked as unanswered for now.
If anyone knows why it would do it please let me know

Depending on what iPhone you have when you get to the connect to wifi you should be able to activate your device over cellular data. Try doing a hard reset by holding the home circle button an power button until an apple pops up and the go through the setup again and when you get to the wifi part a option should be setup with cellular data iPhone 4 and above should give this option sometimes doesn't like showing up that's why u have to do a hard reset first

Not if you first do a sync and have iTunes make a backup. However, if your only copy of the iTunes data is in the Touch, then you need to first copy the data to a new iTunes Library using third-party software such as Phone To Mac.

I can see if we can get your phone back on! I understand how important it is to have a phone. Have you tried this to see if we can get it back on? http://vz.to/1DZhteH . If it is still goes to a red Verizon screen and then to black we might need to do a master reset. There is no other way than to plug into a computer to restore the phone. You can use another computer to do so, but in case you did not back up to iCloud your data and settings will be gone.

He came to me yesterday and I noticed that his iPhone 4 still had old software (version in the 4's), so I advised him that he needed to synch it up to get the iOS 5.1.1 version. He synched and now can't get back in. He was entering his passcode on the lock screen (which wasn't taking) and I noted to him that his screen didn't look like mine. Anyone know how to fix this issue, or does he have to do a full restore?

He has set up a complex password instead of a simple passcode for his phone. If he doesn't know what it is, he'll have to restore. There is no way around a forgotten passcode.
