Updated Projects that used Color Assist Cause FCPX to Crash

Hi All,
After it's release I used Technicolor's now defunct and unsupported Color Assist software to grade a couple of projects. I've recently upgraded those project and events for use with 10.1. The projects and events appear in the browser but show a missing pugin warnning me that Color Assist isn't available.
I'm not worried about retreiving the grade - my loss thanks to Technicolor. I would however like to somehow preserve the project intact for re-grading later.
I've tried removing the Color Assist folder from the Project folder prior to performing an upgrade but no dice, FCPX still crashes.
I'm sure the solution must only involve trashing the right render folders to wipe out any trace of Color Assist from the project. Anyone know which render files/folders I need to trash?

Smart export/import - unable to import project that uses 'xml' technology

Hello,
I have smart exported project and this project uses technology 'XML'. When I'm trying to import it, there are following issues (screen) - no fix available to choose:

So, it seems technology 'XML' is not recognized during import, because it has different ID. On repository I'm trying to import to, XML has ID 27999. So, I manually edited SmartExport.xml file and changed all occurences of 1189 to correct ID: 27999 and tried again to import. After this change, there are no issues. But just after I start import, following error message is thrown and import fails:

The same issue when I'm trying to import any project that uses any not built-in technology. After importing technology on destination server, ID doesn't match. And if I change ID in SmartExport.xml, no issues but import fails due to error similar as above.
So, what is the correct way to perform succesfull import/export in this cases and how to fix "dirrerent origin" errors? Do you have any idea?

PS - have found other posts indicating that clips smaller than 2s or sometimes 5s, or "short files" can cause this. Modern style editing often uses short takes ! Good grief I cannot believe Apple. Well I deleted a half a dozen short sections and can export, but now of course the video is a ruined piiece of junk and I need to re-do the whole thing, the sound etc. which is basically taking as much time as the original. And each time I re-do it I risk again this lovely error -50 and again trying to figure out what thing bugs it via trial and error instead of a REASONABLE ERROR MESSAGE POINTING TO THE CLIP IT CAN'T PROCESS. What a mess. I HATE this iMovie application - full of BUGS BUGS BUGS which Apple will not fix obviously, since I had this product for a few years and see just hundreds of hits on Google about this error with disappointed users. Such junk I cannot believe I paid money for it and Apple does not support it with fixes !!!
If anyone knows of a GOOD reasonably priced video editing program NOT from APPLE I am still looking for suggestions. I want to do more video in future, but obviously NOT with iMovie !!!

Lost prompt to update pages that use template..

Yes I know I should not use templates but I do on very small sites with under 10 pages. When making adjustments to the templates I used to get a prompt asking me if I want to update pages that use that template, but I no longer get that. I must have changed something but I am wondering how I can change it back. I can manually update but I always forget and I do not wantto go that route....anyone know how I can get that prompt back to update pages that use template? Thanks much!

No, I've suggested SSI's instead of Library items, or a combination of SSI's and a template instead of nested templates, but I've never suggested using SSI's instead of templates, although it is a workable solution.
I dont think it matters what I have in the code. It used to prompt me whenever I changed ANYTHING and had to save.
I do. However, try this simple test -
1. Create a new, blank HTML file.
2. Save it with FILE | Save as Template... (verify that the page is saved in the "Templates" folder)
3. Spawn a new child page from this template with FILE | New > Page from Template.
4. Save this page with any name you prefer.
5. Return to the template page and change the title from Untitled document to "Whatever". Save it. Are you prompted? You should be.
If you are not prompted then there is something systemically wrong with your DW installation.

Compile a project that uses Spark modules (SDK 4.5) with FB4.1?

Is it possible to compile a project that uses Spark modules with Flash Builder 4.1?
I've added SDK 4.5 to FB and selected it in the project properties (no problems here).
But how about the 'Flex modules' tab in the project properties window, will it be able to add Spark modules to the application?

Yes, you will be able to use s:Module with FB 4. You'll have to do a new MXML component, then go to Flex Modules and click on the add button. (The new module wizard there won't support the spark module)
However, please note that this is unsupported in the sense that we haven't tried that out at our end. (But I personally have and it works )

Archiving Projects that use Nested Sequences

I'm looking for some help using Project Manager to archive projects that use nested sequences.
I work at the University of Michigan, we are wrapping up a study that is based on files from many Premiere Pro projects. Each project started with 150 to 160 min of video footage from two cameras.
Of this we have edited down to a 10 – 20min finished sequence containing footage from both cameras as a two-camera shoot. I want to archive eachproject (to save HDD space) retaining only the used sections of footage in thePPro archived project, allowing us to make minor edits to the projects.
My workflow has been to rely heavily on nested sequences throughout each project. From two sequences containing all of the footage from Camera1 and Camera2 all the way to the final cut sequence everything is dependent on a series of interim nested sequences. So the last sequence “Final” is based/linked on the very first sequences. When I attempt toarchive this using Project Manager the nested sequence edits are not recognized as individual clips. I either end up with all of the original footage or no footage. I’m not sure how (if?) I can archive these projects in a way to eliminate all but the final file footage segments with 30 frame handles.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or offer some advice?

Alot less than that, you can get a good Dual HD enclosure for $100 and probably less than that, and 500 Gig Drives for about $250 a piece, so assume about $600 without shopping too hard.
I find it is alot easier to use HDs, and have a couple of copies for important projects. You can use the other items as another backup (never can have too many) and going to be easier than having to recapture, especially if there was dropped framess or timecode issues. Guess it comes down too how often do you have to go back annd re-edit a wedding DVD once it is done, and what will make your like easier when it is said and done, but if it happens, on the HD just open it up, otherwise you have to recapture the tapes which is a couple of hours at least it sounds like.
As to archieve DVDs, who knows. There have been claims that the original CDs were to last 100 years, some of the ones I bought when they first came out started to go a few years ago. Same for some other media.

Technicolor Color Assist and FCPX

I have been experimenting with Technicolor's Color Assist, but it seems to have a color management problem. That is, when I view the results in FCPX, the clips are brighter, have less contrats and saturation that they do in Color Assist. The differences are much greater than I see between FCPX preview and the same clips in Premiere Pro, or Quicktime after export. I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this issue, and if they have a solution. At this point, Color Assist is useless to me.

Yes, that too. I have had issues with Coremelt's Lock & Load. You can't use it and Color Assist on the same clip.

Update project description using PSI

Failure When Deploying EJB Project That Uses Library Onto Glassfish

I have a multi project application that I am developing and I am having issues testing it. I have set up a EAR, WAR, EJB, and two library JARs. The EJB contains classes that use components from the library JARs or implement abstract classes from the library JARs. I have added the library JARs to the compile-time libraries of the EJB. I then also added the library JARs to the libraries of the EAR. However when I then go to deploy the EAR onto the Glassfish server I get this error, displayed in the Glassfish log:

I did read that putting the libraries in this directory: <glassfish_home>/domains/domain1/lib may resolve the problem, however there must be a better way.

First of all, use a normal font when posting a question. This is just terrible to read.
You have multiple failures here. Did you actually read and try to understand the error?
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/foo/sdk/core/AbstractClassJava is not going to lie, this class is not on the classpath of the application. Either the jar is missing, the class is missing from the jar or you put the jar in the wrong place. Open up the ear using your favorite zip tool and check out its structure. What is the path to the jar inside it?
Also, open up the META-INF/manifest.mf file inside the EJB jar. Is there a class-path line in there? There shouldn't be!
A valid ejb jar requires at least one session, entity (1.x/2.x style), or message-driven bean. Apparently your EJB jar contains not a single EJB or MDB class. Did you forget some annotations perhaps?
Seems to me that your application compiles, but other than that it is very much broken.

Tracking pages that use color/inks?

For those of you who produce projects in InDesign where some pages have color (or spot inks) available and others don't, what methods do you use to keep track?
Anything clever?
Generally speaking, for our tabloid newspaper that's imposed 4-up, we just track it on paper and hope that nobody screws up, and don't make any attempt to track it in InDesign. (For instance, a 16-page paper will probably have CMYK on pp. 1,8,9, and 16. And maybe also on pp. 3, 6, 11, 14.)
I don't expect InDesign to do the math for me, but once we've decided, I wonder if we should try harder to track it. For instance, we could color pages in the pages panel, but that's fairly subtle. We could add some non-printing markers on the page and/or pasteboard, such as a big colored rectangle behind the entire page. We could do any of the above on master pages and have seperate master pages for the color pages.
(Having seperate master pages for the colored pages seems like a good idea. It's not something we do right now, I guess, because there is no substantive difference in the recurring elements on pages that have color.)
What do you do? Either in books or newspapers or other forms of print?

Hmm, I didn't mean to anchor this question too firmly in newspaper-space. What drove the query was production of an 8x10 32-page magazine. Like Peter, we don't have too much trouble keeping track when its the newspaper, or perhaps it's because we have workflows that are well-adapted to figuring it out early. When we have fewer design constraints, suddenly it becomes more important.

Hmm. I guess checking after-the-fact is one way to go. If working with single side pages one could imagine a script that constantly checks the layout window(s) for specific page names and would apply a greyscale color profile to "View/Proof setup/custom…" if on specified greyscale pages and a CMYK color profile if on specified color pages.
I'm under the impression that greyscale color profiles don't work in InDesign. Do you have a workaround for that?
That's an interesting way to go. I don't normally work in Proof Colors mode I wonder if there's a performance penalty.
And yeah, lack of facing pages support seems a definite problem...
For facing pages we need a marker element that indicates "color page" or "greyscale page".
It should be an object dependent on a specific page name and not part of a specific page or its content (to be idependent when shifting pages around). I see no concept in InDesign to achieve this automatically in a constant way.
I'm not too worried about how to have the page adornment be automatically implemented; I'm more interested in what kinds of page adornments people use and might be effective. At the end of my question, I suggested "Hmm, maybe a subtle transparency-like grid?" and I did run with that a little bit last night:
I figured that a square grid too strongly screamed TRANSPARENCY so I'd try a hexagon grid. Unfortunately I don't think there's a great way to 2-color a grid of hexagons, and my first shading attempt doesn't work too well at the 10% opacity that is at. Still, I think it might be a workable way to go. But it might be too distracting. Not sure...
Maybe a startup script that interacts when page names are changing or pages are shifted around is doable.
I don't think it's too tough for a script in the idle loop to notice when pages are changing and to, say, change which master page is applied or pop up a dialog noting that. But I think I'm more interested in the UI for the designer once the pages are set, rather than the interface for changing the adornments. Because if I can't come up with a useful adornment, the rest doesn't matter.

Problems while compiling a project that uses Database Adapter

I am working on a small WebService that uses the Database Adapter to connect with the Oracle-Lite database. The process is a synchronous process which has client and DatabaseService as the partner link. The goal of this project is to get two inputs from the user and send it over to the DatabaseService for it to select the rows from the table based on the inputs sent. The process activity has an invoke function which had two varibles Invoke_1_inputVarible and Invoke_1_outputVarible. I have included the *.xds that contains the database schema. When I compile the project i get the following error

Problem updating pages that use .dwt file

So i have 45 files that all use the same .dwt file. Usually when I make a change to the template and go file > save it asks me if i want to update all pages that use that specific .dwf file. For some reason it doesn't show the pages that do. Although if I go to the specific page for example contact.html and do a Modify > Templates > Apply template to page, it applys the changes, and then once i make a change to the .dwt file and do the File > Save, contact.html now appears in the section of files to be updated. I do not want to go thru every page and manually apply the template does anyone have any information that could help me out? thanks

However, that would work.
It sounds like your site cache has become corrupted. Try the following -
1. Open DW's Site manager, select the site name, and click on EXPORT (make sure you opt to export the FULL site defintion including FTP info)
2. Export the site definition to a KNOWN location on your hard drive
3. With the site name still selected in Site manager, click REMOVE to remove that site from your list of definitions
4. Import the site definition you just exported - that should solve the updating problem

How to archive a Java project that uses an Oracle XE DB?

Hi,
As the title suggests, I have a small Java application that uses Oracle XE as the database. Now that I have finished working on the application, I want to archive it and email it to friends and coworkers to test it. However, I know that none of these people have any database software installed. I also can't have them connect remotely to the one on my development machine.
Is there any way to include the database in my application archive, so that all they have to do is run the application without worrying about its back-end? Should I use another back-end?

Unless your database server is on a remote machine that they can connect to then you can't package the WHOLE DATABASE, software and all and send it via e-mail.
You can package your application, and also export the contents of your database into a .dmp file and send that.
The user will NEED Oracle software then to import the contents of your .dmp file.

Now quit Safari.

The md_prop_uid is the uid for this custom field).
If your custom field is not based on lookup table, you can use a code like this:

I keep receiving this error: "the application cannot be installed due to a certificate problem" when trying to update program that use adobe AIR (vudu-to-go)

This issue happens when an older version of Adobe Story is already installed on a system.
To resolve this issue you will have to first remove that version and then install the latest one.
Now depending upon which system you are using, below are the steps:
MAC:
Open 'Applications' folder in Finder.
Move 'Adobe Story' application to Trash and remove it from Trash too.
Just to make sure that this application is not installed on a different drive, do a search for 'Adobe Story' in spotlight. If it is present on a different location, then remove it from there too.
Now log into story.adobe.com and download the desktop application again and install it.
WINDOWS:
Open Controls Panel and uninstall Adobe Story application
Now log into story.adobe.com and download the desktop application again and install it
