Updated Software on Saturday, Now my MBP is all messed up

So I'm a long time user of Windows machines and I converted to a Mac about 2 years ago. My knowledge on how to fix a Mac is pretty limited so I'm having some serious trouble figuring my issue out.
Saturday my MBP ran the software update and told me to install : Canon Printer Software version 2.5; Security Update 2011-002 version 1.0; and Safari version 5.0.5.
Shortly after installing those 3 updates my machine now takes forever to start up (which is never has), it refuses to play a flash video anywhere (whether on facebook or youtube), and it won't load many of my programs such as Itunes.
For the video issue, if I try to view a video it gives me a pop up and says: flash player (safari internet plug-in) quit unexpectedly.
I can't even open Firefox to see if this is the same issue.
When I try to open ITunes, I get the error: ITunes quit unexpectedly.
Please respond if you are able to help, I would most appreciate it!

I haven't made a backup of this ever. Didn't really know how and honestly I didn't expect this kind of crap from a Mac.
I have had very reliable Macs.... one 11 year old one still gets used every day. But things happen...even to trusty Macs. Before I got DiskWarrior I had directory corruption so bad I lost eveything on the drive. It took me three months to re-enter all my Investment transactions from paper copies after an erase. DiskWarrior has always saved me since. But I learned to do the following so it would never happen again.
I like the free demo of  SuperDuperto make clone backups. It's free,  Leopard and Snow ready and is easy to use. If you buy the full version you can do incremental backups.
You should use Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair booted up on your install disk, before you make a clone of it. DiskWarrior is way better to use.
I then partition my external disk, in Disk Utility, with a partition that is the same size , actually a tad bigger, as my system disk. I then use SuperDuper to clone my system disk over to that partition.
With a clone on an external FireWire drive (USB drives are not bootable on PPC Macs but are on some Intel Macs) you can bootup on it to do your repairs or just run your Mac anytime you have trouble with your main drive. Be careful, there are a few external FireWire drives out there that are not bootable on PPC Macs. Check the drive's manual to be sure.

  • 4.2 now Safari bookmarks are all messed up

bookmark bar is all messed up many of my bookmarks are gone and I can't add any to the bar now. it has also done the same on my iPad

So, do you think Apple is gonna get a fix out for this? Just curious, as they were the ones who were so big on the whole idea of Stacks in the first place.

  • I updated Mavericks yesterday. Now my MBP won't load.

It shutdown to install the update.  When it came back up, it was at the grey apple logo, but there was a progress bar under it.  I assumed this was part of the installation as I had never seen it before.  Well, the progress bar finished, but then the computer turned off.  So I turned it back on.  I did this several times, and found out that the progress bar usually shows up if it wasn't shutdown properly.  So then I ran disk utility, and now it says it can't repair the disk..disk,and restore your backed-up files. What happened? Has my hard drive crashed?  I dont understand.  Everything was fine until the update.  Is there anything that can be done to save my files?! I'm an idiot (and I'm lazy) so I haven't backed anything although I'm trying.  I have an external hard drive connected and trying to save an image in DU, but the screen went blank last night so it is taking forever.  Any and all help would be appreciated! THANKS

    Try this:
Unplug all peripherals (external drives, printers, hubs) and network cables.
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Updated software and downloading now is impossible - HELP!

I use the phone a lot for photos, etc. Hadn't had too many issues with it, but a week ago I updated BB software and since then the "download from media card" function is impossible to deal with.
It keeps telling me to back up the device and reformat it, but there simply are no commands either in the phone or in the
First, it never starts when the phone is connected to the desktop. When I get it to, it keeps redownloading the photos, but konks out when it tried to update install history - the only choice I'm offered is "Stop" and when I do, it gives me diagonal moving bars in blue for a few seconds and then grey diagonal bars and is hung up. I can only Force Quit at this point.
Adding to the problem is that the BB Desktop Software is set-up to delete photos off the Media Card, but it doesn't do this. Additionally, the last 3 times I tried to download photos/videos, all of the photos were put back on my Media Card in reverse order. Huh??? And for some reason, I can not reformat the Card or wipe the photos off the Card en masse, but have to do this one at a time. For 300???
Can anyone help me with this issue? I am on Mac OSX 10.6.8

I know this might sound weird but have you tried restarting his phone and restarting your router ? And when your network shows up does it give you the option to "forget it" or disconnect ? It should let you enter your password new the next time you select it.
Hope you will have it fixed soon

  • Help!- ipad was disconnected when updating software...now it won't recognize the ipad and can't complete a restore. It can't recognize the serial # or name,etc..

i was updating my ipad to the new ios software. the cable got disconnected just as it was completing the update. when it connected again it said i need to restore it. Once going thru the restore process, it said that Itunes can't recognize the ipad. one note, the ipad shows on my itunes as a "IPAD" and no name, serial #, etc...  The ipad has a symbol on it telling me to connect to itunes

A System Reset cures many ills.  It's easy, quick and harmless:
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.
A System Reset does not remove any apps, music, movies, etc. nor does it cause any settings to revert back to default.
Also, you might wish to download the iPad-2 User Guide.  Pay special attention to page 162.  Note that this Guide also applies to the iPad-1 with IOS 4.3 except for those functions that are not supported by the hardware.
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipad
Finally,  the User Guide can be downloaded at no charge via iBooks and a less   comprehensive version of the Guide is included as a Safari bookmark.

  • I just updated my Iphone and now I've lost all my notes!! How do I get them back?

I just updated my iphone 4s and now all my notes are gone!!  I've been on the phone w/apple for about 2 hours and they are useless!!  I've been trying to restore my phone to get the old notes back but to no avail.
    Please help!

I lost my contacts too after upgrading. The numbers remained under recent calls and messages, but there was nothing in my contacts list. If you synced to the iCloud, you can retrieve your contacts by turning off syncing contacts to the cloud… save the (nonexistent) contacts on the phone. Then turn syncing to the cloud back on. It worked for me… they all returned and repopulated the names to the messages and recent calls.

  • TS1702 I have just updated my OS and now i have lost all my data and some apps will not reinstall from my computer.  Having to install from the cloud is slow as the band width is small here..  any advise

I have just updated my IPADs OS to 6.1.2 this caused it to crash and i had to do a restore on the IPAD. • ITunes says update software on iPOd. Will this erase all songs?

    help?

    Hello, Welcome to discussions.
Before doing any update you want to ensure the data on the iPod Touch is backed up to your PC/Mac so that you can sync it back to the iPod Touch as needed.
*Make sure any contacts and calenders and photos you have are synced to the proper programs supported in the link below. This ensures they are backed up to the PC/Mac as well as in the iTunes backup itself.
iPhone and iPod touch: Minimum system requirements
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1323
*Make sure you have synced back itunes store purchases to the iTunes program if it has not been done for awhile
Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer

  • I downloaded update 10.5 and now i have lost all my apps can any one help

be very much appreciated if any one could help me out

As long as the apps are still available in the store, and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to buy them, then you should be able to re-download them for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 . If you download them to your computer's iTunes you could then try restoring to your backup and see if that restores them and their settings/content back to your device - a backup doesn't contain the actual apps, just their content/settings, so for the restore to work fully iTunes needs access to the apps so that it can restore them.

  • Now my Stacks are all messed up...

I did the painfully slow download (my DSL is only around 2.0 Mbps on a good day) for Mountain Lion on the 25th and now most everything seems to be OK except the Stacks I have in my Dock. I have my Stacks set to show things by date added, and while a couple of them are OK there are others that are not. I've gone into the Finder and set the order to date added and you can see that things look OK for a while then everything starts becoming alphebetical. Needless to say, the Stacks don't match up with what's in the Finder. This might not seem like a big deal, but if there's a fix out there I'd really like things to be back to the way they were pre-update.
On a related note, when I check my Applications folder in the Finder by date added it shows that most of the applications got moved in the installation process. I don't know if this has anything to do with my situation, but maybe someone else out there could check their Application folder and see if it shows the same thing. Thanks!

So, do you think Apple is gonna get a fix out for this? Just curious, as they were the ones who were so big on the whole idea of Stacks in the first place.
