Updated to 10.4.5 now having problems...

So after I updated the system everything was working fine, but after I rebooted my computer a second time later that week, something really strange happened. The system overall is running very slow. Icons in the dock were all on the defaults that you get when you first install Tiger. Every application I open gives me the little message as if its being opened for the first time. Worst of all, when I open iPhoto, it just says loading photos, but never actually does. I have located my photos on the hard drive, so they are not lost, but it is still very frusterating. Everything has been reset to the defaults like the bookmarks in Safari and widgets in Dashboard, although I do not believe I've lost any of the ones I added myself. It's not so much a crisis, but I just want to know how to get everything back to the way it was before I updated the system.

No, DiskWarrior will not fix that problem. What you are being told is that your hard drive is failing - and needs to be either repaired or, most probably, replaced.

Most disk drives include S.M.A.R.T hardware. S.M.A.R.T. stands for Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology. Developed by IBM, S.M.A.R.T. hardware allows hard disks to test themselves for potential problems. You can check the health of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If you've been having some problems with your computer, it's a good idea to check the status of the hard disk.
To learn more about using Disk Utility, open Disk Utility, in the /Applications/Utilities folder, and choose Help > Disk Utility Help.
You should take your computer to an Apple certified technician or an Apple store.

I did the update to Firefox today. I am able to log into Comcast, but am having trouble with staying logged in. I go to the home page, it tells me I am not logged in, so I go to the log in page, log in, and it takes me back to the home page showing that I am logged in. When I try to go access my email, instead of taking me to that page, it just takes me back to the log in page. It also does this when I navigate anywhere else on the site. Help!

Updated to Froyo 2.2 now having problems

I update my software on my Fascinate to Froyo 2.2 and now I can't get Handcent SMS to be my default messaging. Does anyone have any clue how to fix this? When I get a SMS it will notify me up top and at the bottom where the messaging icon is, but when I click there it doesn't default to Handcent like it did before the update. I like to be able to customize my messaging and this is really driving me crazy!!!!

Handcent SMS is a third party application. You can try uninstalling and reinstalling the application. If the issue continue you may need to contact the application developer.

As Retired Engineer indicated, you will need to install Snow Leopard first. After you install Snow Leopard, you need to go into Software Update and perform the updates. 10.6.6 will install the App Store. You should continue to update to 10.6.8 before purchasing and installing Lion from the App Store.
Be sure your machine meets the minimum requirements. Basically, any Mac with a Core 2 Duo processor or later and at least 2GB of RAM (but 4 is highly recommended). If you have a first generation MacBook Pro with a Core Duo, you will not be able to upgrade to Lion.

No one should have to reset network settings, I have the same issue and I have a celluar package, it's slow using either one--but my IMac is running just fine so don't blame the network--blame the testers and my Internet speed is grease lightning so that's not it either--too many issues, like Facebook randomly disappearing while open, choppy animation, slow to load programs.
It's too **** bad they made it so you cannot roll back to IOS6 until these bugs are worked out--shoulda waited. Shoulda, coulda, woulda..not helping me now AND my friend bought his mini the same time I did in April and we are not even in the same city and he has the same exact problems!!

Hello since i got the new itunes update 2012,my ipod has been having problems,didnt have these before the update

i have a 120 gig ipod classic,i noticed i was having problems,with itunes taking longer to sync,after spending almost 2 hours up loading all my movies music,to my ipod,then after all was done i would get an error 69 message,in the middle of the sync,then all my music would be on there some movies,music worked fine,most movies didnt except for a few,that happened once,most times after syncing there was no music movies, on the ipod,,then i would reconnect to itunes,tried to restore my ipod was taking forever,then when i clicked restore,would take longer,very annoyed,think its the new itunes causing problems for me,hoping i wont have to purchas up dates,done that before,paid 450 3 years ago for the ipod,paid for lots of music,movies,its not very old,but to apple the thing is probebly considered ancient,any help would be cool,

Read this Apple Support Article on handling error 69 it may be a bad corrupted file.
Or worst case the iPod Hardisk need to be check, as you are saying that it is taking longer than usual.
Do the iPod Disk Diagnostic as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem but helps in troubleshooting.

Installed 10.4 update now having problems

Unable to access I-tunes store and AppleMobileDeviceServices.exe is using 100% CPU slowing my computer down. I have reinstalled I-tunes but it didn't help. Any suggestions?

It is easy. It solved most of my problems, including ones similar to yours.
I had installed, uninstalled, updated, not updated (between many, many restarts) only to discover: 10.4.7 broke my system. It wasn't foreign hardware; it was Apple's new software. Particularly, my MDD FW800 dual 1.46 would wake from sleep, but then consume 70% of CPU time. I do have PCI cards installed. Despite this fix my Firewire 800 PCI card now does not work after the 10.4.7 update.
From what I gather this is a link to an Apple software package that will replace the needed USB kext file with more grace:

As always, BE CAREFUL AND BACK UP. Be sure you have another way to boot your Mac so that you can replace the "fix" with the original file should your machine not boot after the change. Be sure to fix permissions before you reboot into the modified system (may not be needed with USB Debug Kit).

E5 software updated to v072.001 now having problem...

I have updated my phone and my aol e-mail which has worked without a hitch is now no longer working. It keesp trying to get me to set a default nokia e-mail account (which I don't want) and I have to keep accessing my aol e-mail manually.
Is there anyway round this as it is driving me crazy.

I experienced something similar. I updated yesterday my iPhone 5s to iOS8 and I couldn't hear correctly the calls I received or made. The sound was very very low, almost impossible to hear. I tried several times to place calls and set the volume control to the max without luck. I then turnes off and on the phone and the problem was solved, the sound is good as before. Hope this helps.

Updated to Snow Leopard, now having problems with Java??

I've had my MacBookPro for five years, and I'm thrilled it's lasted so long with no bugs. However, since I updated from Tiger to Snow Leopard on my MBP, things have been running slow, hiccuping, etc. I've run the disc utility app a couple of times, and each time there is a long list of problems in the log under the categories "Applications/Utilities/AirPort Utility.app/Contents/Resources/Drives.icns", and
"System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/lib/management- agent.jar".
This feels a lot like a virus. Can anyone advise? I'm real worried.

Nancy... there aren't any Mac viruses.
Your profile shows you are running v10.6.3. If that is the case, you need to update your system software to v10.6.7.
Click your Apple menu (top left in your screen) then click Software Update.
And check the startup disk in case it needs repairing.
Launch Disk Utility. /Applications/Utilities. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions). if the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
And how much free space there is on the startup disk... not enough and the drive will slow down. While you have the Disk Utility window open, at the bottom of the window see: Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have 15% free disk space.
Another way to keep an eye on free disk space, right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available.
"Applications/Utilities/AirPort Utility.app/Contents/Resources/Drives.icns", and
"System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/lib/management- agent.jar".
Those are just messages from verifying disk permissions. Nothing to worry about. I see the same ones.
One key thing to remember with computers. Always backup your important files on a timely basis.

Updated to iOS 6 and am now having problems with wifi

Recently- I am having trouble with the wifi in multiple locations. Initially I thought it had to do with my own house internet- but my fiance has no trouble with his wifi on his iphone. We have both updated to iOS 6 and 4G tends to work fine but when connected to wifi both at work and my home it is extremely slow or does not load.

That sounds like a data system issue, call your carrier about it.
Try resetting network settings on the iPhone.

wifi playing up after latest update to lion

I watched a movie file in QuickTime Player and MPlayer but didn't notice any lag. I also watched a video in Hulu Desktop and didn't get any lag either. I believe I have the same 500GB drive as you in terms of exact model number so I'm not sure what's going on other than it's got something to do with the firmware.
At least you're able to use the rest of the machine...unlike most of the others.
