Updated to 10.6.3.  Now IMAP times out.

Last week, I installed the update to 10.6.3. Since then, I have been unable to receive gmail or .mac mail into mail.app via IMAP connections. My work email via exchange 2007 still works fine and all accounts are still functional via webmail.
The error message says "There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “MobileMe” or try again. The server returned the error: The connection to the server “mail.me.com” on port 993 timed out."
I've tried the following:
- Disabling ssl, but I receive the same message regarding port 143.
- Connecting via a neighbor's wireless, but still receive the same errors.
- Reinstalling the combo update to 10.6.3 rather than the standard update, but still receive the same errors.
Any advice on how get mail downloading again?
Thanks,
Bailey

As an update, I have tried deleting mail.app and reloading it from the Snow Leopard DVD. I then loaded the combo update to 10.6.3. Unfortunately, this did not resolve the issue. Once, there was enough access to the server to download message headers, but not full emails. This happened immediately after restarting mail.
Interestingly, the connections to the servers also time-out in Thunderbird. Could the update to 10.6.3 have had some impact on the usability of ports 993 and 143 that has nothing to do with updates to mail.app?
Thanks,
Bailey

Assuming Allan's advice is not correct, and you do run the installer, I think I've heard of that problem and it involves removing the old Flash plug-ins, then install the new version. I don't use it so I don't know what they are called, but will be the /Library/Internet Plug-ins folder.
You can go here and enable HTML5 in YouTube so you don't have to use Flash: http://www.youtube.com/html5
Most(?) of the content is HTML5, but you may run into videos where you still need Flash.

  • I recently had an update on my computer. Now every time I shut the lid of my computer, all of my webpages close. My computer never used to do that. Has anyone had this problem before, and if so, how did you fix it?

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro. I had not done any updates on my computer for a long time, but recently I allowed my computer to do one of the updates it had been asking me to do for a long time. Now whenever I shut the lid of my computer, all of my open webpages that I was using close. So the next time I go to use my computer, none of my webpages are available and I have to reopen everything! My computer never used to do that. I am wondering what I need to do to stop my computer from automatically shutting down all of my webpages whenever I close the lid of my computer.
    Thanks,

  • I have a 4g touch. I updated ibook in itunes and now, every time I sync, I get the message that the app won't run in os6. Is there any way I can revert the app in itunes so I have the latest version that will work with OS6?

I recently updated ibook in my Itunes.  Now, every time I sync, I get the message that it won't update the ipod as ibook won't run in OS6. Is there any way I can revert the ibook app in itunes so it quits trying to install the current ibook app. I am trying to stop getting the warning message. I am also concerned if I ever have to reinstall the app.

Delete the app from the iTunes library on your computer and then transfer the version from iPod to computer by:

  • Just bought a second hand iPod Touch 32GB 4th Gen. The IOS is currently 4.3.5 and when I try to update to the latest, the connection continually times out. Can you help?

    Hi All,
First ever post on here but I feel that my options are slowly running out. I've just bought a second hand iPod Touch 32GB 4th Gen. It was reset to factory settings meaning that that software was 4.3.5
As soon as I plug it into iTunes it asks me to update to the latest version. I click for it to go ahead but the connection times out (error code 3259)
I've been on the phone to apple for over an hour and we still couldn't resolve the issue. We tried disabling the firewall, uninstalling AVG, diabling pop up blockers, checking the LAN settings, disabling the router security and anything else we could think of.
We still couldn't get it to stop timing out. I tried to download the firmware from iClarified but iTunes said it didn't recognise the software.
    Has anyone got any ideas?

Just what did yo do to gt iTunes to see the download:

  • ITunes gets to 99% download of 4.3.3 update then quits... says system time out

iTunes gets to 99% complete of the 4.3.3 update for iPhone 4 and then stops the download due to "system time out" it has done this for the past few days and i cannot remedy this issue. Internet connections is perfectly fine and computer is running fast.

  • IMAP time out on port 993

    Hello,
Since 2 days I have every minute a "time out" pop up on mail app regarding my imaps accounts.
I own the mailserver so i know that the problem doesnt come from there.
    What should i do ?
I dont really want to delete the pref & cache because it is huge mailboxes and here in Australia we have some internet quota...
    help..

    Jerume,
Search this forum for the string ".OfflineCache" and you'll find several messages describing how to fix this problem in the short term.
What has happened, I think, is that at some point you were editing a message (and possibly sent it) and Mail.app thought you were offline so it saved the drafts files and sent message in the .OfflineCache in ~/Library/Mail. The problem I'm having is that when that happens, Mail.app is never able to clear the .OfflineCache once you go online again.
The net result is that every minute it tries to resend the message and fails, in my case with a timeout and INTERNAL ERROR: Keyword hashtable memory corruption:

  • I updated Adobe Flash player and now each time I use Firefox for video get a serious error with blue screen of death pointing at device drive ati2dvag - BUT ok in IE 8

    See above

I tried updating my ATI driver but I continued to have intermittent problems (system hangs and unexpected reboots) with current versions of Shockwave in Firefox - a right pain in the neck. I noticed that the date changed on the driver ... but not the version ... ??!!
So I am now back where I started (I rolled back the device driver):-
    Shockwave Flash 10.1.102.64
ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro, device driver version, 8.401.0.0 dated 27/07/2007.
Haven't the folks at Adobe/Firefox heard of 'backwards compatibility' ?!
It seems I am stuck now ... until a version of Flash comes out which addresses my specific problem ...
Does anybody have a solution ??
    MANY THANKS!

  • Updated to snow Leapord and now my time capsule is slow

Recently updated Mac mini to snow Leapord and since then my wireless network is 2mb/s or slower on my 1TB time capsule. Can anyone help?

Hello. I don't know what part of the world you're in but if you're in North America TVs typically operate on the NTSC format and if you're in another part of the world PAL is used. If you have an option in System Preferences, make sure the appropriate choice is selected.

  • Cannot seem to download latest update for my Iphone. The server times out about 333 mb of 686 mb. Its done this 6 times now. Anybody know why?

Is anyone having problems downloading the latest update for Iphone 3Gs. I have only been able to download about 333mb of the 686 mb file. I get an error .3259 server timed out. Have checked with my internet provider and they say there is no disruption on their end. My modem has not disconnected in the past thirteen weeks. Apple says its not at the store end either. Any help would be appreciated.

Becasue this is very common and is the most common resolution for your issue.

  • I installed the updated iphoto 11 software and now every time I use it my computer shuts down.  Please help

I bought iphoto 11 for my mac book pro.  I already had an older version of iphoto.  Every time I use iphoto 11 is turns my computer off abruptly.  Please advise. Thank you.

Do you get this type of screen:
If so  boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try launching iPhoto again.  If that's successful reboot normally and try iPhoto again.
If the window isn't as shown above as a quick test try this: Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
