I allowed Apple updates about two weeks ago and now Safari is way too slow. I have tried using Airport and Ethernet and the problem is the same. Yesterday, I upgraded to Safari 5.1 and now the problem is worse. Any solutions?

But must also admit that Safari is a very slow browser compared to Firefox or Chrome.
And you can't ignore all the problems which arose when upgrading to Lion and were related to the new build and specs of Safari 5.1.
The best example is the apparition of "garbage type" (use of Last Resort font) when reading numerous sites. This never occured before and is the direct consequence of Safari compliance to Web Open Type. This standard prohibits the use of Type 1 Postscript Fonts and is the reason why so many people are in trouble.

Can you take a screenshot of the screen problem (http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4391). If the screenshot looks normal, then you've probably a problem with the screen and not the GPU. If the screenshot shows the anomalies, then the problem is probably the GPU.

I recently bought a new laptop and a new IPod Photo 30GB. I installed ITunes. I immediatly started to import my cd collection. After two houres of work, my ITunes blocked and I needed to reboot the pc. Since then, my laptop is very slow on startup. What can I do?
Well how much hard disk space is left on your laptop?
If it's > 80% full, it will be slow.
You can try to defrag the hard drive and see if it helps. -

First time this has happened to me after many years, but this software update has borked my machine. Looks like it had auto-downloaded, so I agreed to restart and on the restart sat there on grey screen with Apple logo and the spinning gear. After several hours decided something had gone wrong, powered down and have tried without success to get her back to life. Safe mode is reporting 'runtime corruptions', 'socket not connected', 'invlid laf record count', 'Rebuilding catalog B-tree' etc etc. Not good. Any thoughts on how to dignose what's going on without having to refer to an Apple store?
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to fully boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
1. Boot from your recovery partition (10.7 or later), a local Time Machine backup volume (10.7.2 or later), or your installation disc (10.6.8 or earlier.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in the support article linked below, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”

2. If you have a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode by holding down the key combination command-T at the startup chime. I was given an option to upgrade to Firefox 4, so I did. Ever since I have done this, Facebook is taking a very long time to load. All FB apps either take a few minutes to load or just dont load. I have tried to watch Youtube and the videos are taking longer to view. I have tried to watch videos and they keep skipping. I have tried to reload the page, restart my computer and even upgrade flash but I already have the updated version. I need to know if their is any way to downgrade back the the Fairfox version that I had.
Upgraded to Firefox4 too. Suddenly I started to notice that browsing pages in my webbrowser qaws horrible laggy and I was seriously wondering if my connection was acting up, yet everything non-browser related was working just fine.
I can't even watch music videos on youtube now, as it will only load up to a 3rd of the song and then just stop loading anything more untill I click on the bar on a spot it hasn't loaded, and then it will start from there untill it gets to a 'block' again.
In other words: totally unusable for me.
I tried uninstalling firefox4 and going back to the 3.6.17 version, but now the issues haunt me in that versino too. It's like firefox4 sunk its teeth into my system once, and then older versions won't work proper either :(
Seriously considering just getting a different browser to be able to actually BROWSE the web again >:( -
I replaced my MacBook Pro hard drive and now Time Machine is very slow.
I replaced my 160G Hard Drive with a 750G. I have a 3 TB external hard drive for Time Machine. I back up using firewire 800.
I am running the latest OS. When I start the first backup using Time Machine it goes fine for about the first 30G. Then slows way down. Now I am only seeing updates of 10M ever few minutes. What is wrong?Nothing is wrong. I had the same issue after swapping HD but using the same TM backup. Give it a few hours to do the first backup. Subsequent backups will be alot faster.... trust me.

I have no idea what may have caused your MacBook to stop working, but from your description it kind of sounds like it may have started before you ran Software Update and installed the new Apps. Just the general slow feeling and bugginess is what tips me off. You said that you weren't sure if you had closed all open windows, that doesn't matter if the computer restarts itself. It automatically closes all other open applications when restarting.
As to your data being retrievable, if when you take it in they do a fresh install of the OS, then no, it will not be unless you want to pay several thousand dollars to a software retrieval company.
I am glad to hear that you have taken into the Apple Store to get it fixed, and that you have all of your purchased music backed up to your iPod. You should be able to just transfer it all back to iTunes once you get your computer back should it be necessary.
As a side note, the proper place for this topic would probably in the MacBook forums, not iTunes since there is no evidence that iTunes started the issue. -
