  • Update 10.1.9 broke my Acrobat 10 (Mac) - Boo!

I normally install all updates, both Apple and Adobe. I'm still on OS 10.8.5 (ML). Acrobat update 10.1.9 broke my Acrobat X Pro. Here's what no longer works:
Save As --> Reduced File Size - freezes, never completes - This is critical for the work I do here at this law firm!
Unsupported plugin from Molly Brown - Flatten All - (Working before update, but I understand its not supported) - Menu Items Removed (?) WTF?
I have had other issues, harder to quantify or describe, but it seems as if this update broke a few things.
I'm uninstalling now and attempting to roll-back to 10.1.8, through manual means. Yuk.
    Not Cool. Please fix?

  • Sony Z1 Compact... why is the camera so poor? Comparison shots within.

    The Good...
I picked up a Sony Z1 Compact the other day, and am so far absolutely in love woth it. The speed and responsiveness are fantastic, the build quality rivals that of the iPhone, and the size is just perfection.
    The Bad...
But... I am VERY dissappointed with the camera and its poor performance. 80% of the photos I take with my phone are while on a night out with friends, usually in bars or other more dimly lit places than broad daylight. In Auto mode, photos taken in the average pub lightning are unuseable,m and look so artifical as to completely destroy any detail in the faces of the people I snap. I have also experimented with manual settings, but still the quakity is just plain poor. In fact, mny Samsung Galaxy S III blows it out of the water in this regard, images in similar conditions are much superior.
    The Ugly...
So why is this camera, a camera that uses what is theoretically a high-quality imaging unit used by point and shoot cameras, so bad in everything except broad daylight?
The answer according to not only my observations, but the observations of many professional websites who reviewed the Z1 series, is seems to be that Sony are purposefully and inexplicably messing with the final images by forcing huge amounts of processing on them. This takes a natural image, messes with the colours and tone, and then proceeds to crush any detail.
Here are some samples of what I mean, taken with Superior Auto:
    Sample 1: Z1 Compact
    A close-up portrait shot...
Look at how artificial that image looks... it's like someone applied a strange kind of gaussian blur tool in photoshop.
    Sample 2 - Z1 Compact
    A group photo...
Here again, in what was one of the better photos that I took, we see the find detail is very poor.. at full size it looks horrible pixellated, and the colours severely washed out. The blacks are also severely crushed.
    Sample 3 - Z1 Compact
Here is a shot that should in theory be detailed and natural looking. A guy near a wall in better light, with the camera held perfectly still.
Again, a horrible image... bad detail, visible artifacting, washed out colours.
    Sample 4 - Z1 Compact
In addition, using the flash causes severe light pollution on the final image, so much so that the bottom half of the photo I take has a very noticeable purpley bluish haze on it.
Look at the level of bleed entering the scene from the flash below the lens. And look at the dreadful overall image quality... the detail is simply shockingly bad. Like a camera phone from years ago.
    Samsung Galaxy S III Comparisons...
And here we have some comparison photos with a Samsung SIII, also taken in a dimply lit pub:
    Sample 1 - Samsung Galaxy S III
Look at the difference... detail is preserved, the image appears natural, and colour tones are reasonably natural. It's a great shot.
    Sample 2 - Samsung Galaxy S III
Again, here we see that the photo is much cleaner... flash lights up the subjkects as well as can be expected considering the size and power, and the colours and detail are preserved, including in the surrounding environment where the coloured lights at the top are also visible.
    Sample 3 . Samsung Galaxy S III
    And finally, a close-up portrai-style shot...
Again, not the easiest of conditions for a phont, but overall detail is good, the face is clearly visible, and the photo looks clean and detailed as you could hope for in the circumstances.
    WINNER: SAMSUNG GALAXY S III
    Conclusion...
Sorry Sony, but this level of imaging is just not acceptable on a premium device with such a high spec sensor in it. I have had better results fron devices that are 2-3 years old. Oh yes, and that's including the video camera mode which has no 24p or 60p options... come on Sony, there is a Snapdragon 800 SOC in this phone, use it.
I really hope you are going to take a serious look at this and fix it.

Wow thanks guys... it seems a LOT of people have noticed this issue. I also saw one guy with exactly the same problem as me with the flash http://www.android-hilfe.de/7156334-post40.html
The question is: how on earth did none of the Sony designers see this issue? It seems to me that someone must have seen it, but too late in the design process, so they just kept it like this and are going to pretend ignorance.
I just did the same test as inside-handy.de where I cover the flash completely and then take a picture, and the light bleeds very badly into the lens, so I guess my phone is badly affected.
I do not expect such a badly designed camera and flash system on such a premium device, and we cannot be expected to live with such a fatal flaw in a phone which is marketed as a pure camera phone.
EDIT - It seems the press are now aware and will be following this up... hopefully Sony will make a response soon when they see the overwhelming evidence http://www.inside-handy.de/news/30330-led-erzeugt-farbiges-leuchten-auf-bildern-sony-xperia-z1-compa...

  • Adobe Reader update 11.0.09   Broke my mouse magnifier.  I uninstalled but now I get prompts to install.  How do I get rid of the prompts?

My gawd this site is the most ridiculously difficult site I've ever seen.  Round and round we go and where we stop nobody knows.  Will someone please tell me how to make the prompt for Adobe Reader update 11.0.09 go away??   It already shows that number was d/l'd in Sept. 2014.  I d/l'd it the other day and it broke the magnifier on my microsoft 5000 mouse.  I use that a LOT.  I can't lose it.  I uninstalled the update and now I get prompts continuously.  What to do?

Thank you I will try that.  Why am I being prompted to d/l an old update?  I didn't even know there was a more recent one.

  • Apple TV update to 5.1 broke ethernet functionality

I recently updated my newish Apple TV to version 5.1 and suddenly several apps stopped working:
I cannot log into the Apple Store.
    Photo Stream will not connect.
I cannot log into my YouTube account, although the rest of the YouTube app works fine.
I cannot play any videos on Hulu+, although I am able to see my favorites.
    Airplay does not work.
Netflix works fine for some reason.
So, the problem is not with internet connectivity. It's with several apps on the device.
I found a "solution" on this post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4352136
Unplug the ethernet cable! But that is NOT a solution. It's a temporary fix. If I knew that Apple TV was a wifi-only box, I might have bought a different box.
I haven't heard anything from Apple about this, and obviously based on the post above, a lot of people have similar issues.
I have a pretty standard network configuration with fairly new equipment: a LinkSys router, a Cisco cable modem, and Cox's premium internet connection service.
Apple, what's going on? Are you planning to push out a software update to fix this? Has anyone else found a solution other than abandoning ethernet?

Wow... So, I was using my Apple TV that was broken by the 5.1 update via wifi just until Apple releases a fix, but then after a half hour or so of watching anything on Netflix or Hulu+, the screen would go blank for a moment, then the device would lose its place in the show, returning to the beginning as though I'd never watched any of it. This kept happening, so finally I gave up and took the whole unit to my local Apple Store.
There, the Apple Genius told me that the unit was defective, and quickly exchanged it for a brand new one. I mentioned the problems caused by the 5.1 update, and he said he didn't think that was correct. He recommended that I apply the 5.1 update to the new Apple TV.
I foolishly took the Apple Genius's advice, and after setting up the Apple TV, I applied the update. The exact same thing happened as with my previous unit. So, this time, instead of returning yet another unit, I applied the 5.0.2 restore process as described in this thread by adam60 (thank you!) and now the unit works fine with the old software.
I will not even consider updating my Apple TV now until I've heard definitively from Apple that this is fixed.
I'm also pretty surprised that the folks at the Genius Bar here in Tucson seemed to be completely unaware of this problem.
I can hardly believe that we've still heard nothing from Apple about this. I've been using the full range of Apple products for more than a decade, and I've never experienced quite this level of crap in quality control/customer service. Obviously from these user forums, the update to 5.1 completely broke Apple TVs on quite a few folks' networks, yet nearly a month later no word has come down from Apple about any kind of fix or solution.
I can understand the release of a severely buggy software update; that's sometimes unavoidable at this scale. But then to remain silent while users post dozens of complaints on user forums like this is just terrible customer service. Apple products are often the best in their class, but if I'm treated like this much more by Apple I might settle for a less awesome product when I'm shopping for my next gadget just to avoid this sort of treatment in the future.

  • Sony z3 compact software missed update?

Have tried to find the answer to what software update the xperia z3 compact phone is up to from Telstra, no luck putting together all of the posts! My issue is I think my phone may have missed an OTA software update - the 23.1.A.1.28? Phone is currently Android 5.0.2 / 23.1.A.0.726. My xperia z3 tablet, which I bought unlocked overseas and which gets OTA updates directly from Sony, is WAY ahead - was on 23.1.A.1.28 from about May and last week updated to Android 5.1.1 / 23.4.A.0.546. Even knowing my tablet is so far ahead, it does seem VERY slow that my phone is still on 23.1.A.0.726 and not even 23.1.A.1.28??

    Hi Kylie_c1
We're expecting to release the following update anytime from today - it's down for a 3/8/15 update.
If it changes, our handset update board here: http://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Device-Updates/bd-p/Device_Updates will change to recognize this.
    Software Version (Current)
    Android 5.1.1 - Lollipop
    Software Build (Current)
    23.4.A.0.546
I don't have the details of the last version, as our info has been updated to take into account this newly approved update.

  • Hp printer update on aug 8th broke my printing capability

I have a MacPro running Lion... all latest updates.
The HP Printer Drivers release on 8/8/2012 has now made it impossible for print anything.  I have an HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi MFP.... which is connected via Ethernet.
Anything I attempt to print - whether from Safari, textedit, Microsoft Word, anything... the print options screen appears asking for what pages you wish to print, and once I click on "Print" everything freezes for about 40-45 seconds, then the application (Safari, textedit, Word, etc) crashes and closes.
The error report window appears with its usual info and saying it will send the report to Apple... and that's as far as I get.
I have turned Mac OFF, turned printer OFF, etc.
The sad thing is.... my wife can print to the printer from her Windows PC laptop.... but I can't print from the Mac.

Delete the printer and re-add it.
Then do a software update check before you try and print.

  • 4.1.2 update on Galaxy S3 broke Tethering

does anyone have any idea how to fix this?  ever since I updated, my laptop gives me an "unable to connect to (device name)" error.  I have tried restarting both computer and phone with no change.  Have seen similar forum posts from back in October when this version of Android was released on other devices.

Oh no Eugene78, I apologize that took place. You're correct, this usually doesn't occur and it sounds as if the SD card was corrupted. There are no suggested steps to recover the media. Are you currently having issues with stored data. If so, please send me a direct message with your mobile number so I may further assist! Thank you.

  • Updating to iOS 7 broke my Wi-Fi (and how I fixed it)

I have an iPad 2; it worked fine; I updated from iOS 6 to iOS 7. Immediately after updating, it could not connect to my home WiFi network (Airport Extreme).
All other devices on the network (MacBook, iPhone, iPod, Roku, Wii, wireless printers) continued to work fine. But his iPad would just keep spinning its wheel trying to connect. I did the usual, (reset Network settings, etc.) to no avail.
I called Apple Support (and had to pay for it). They said it was probably the antenna. They said it was beyond warranty.
I found it hard to believe that there was a problem with the antenna at the same exact time I did the update.
Here is what I did to fix it: I turned off the Airport password. The iPad 2 would connect fine! I tried an 8 character password; again the iPad 2 would connect fine. I then set the Airport back to its normal password (9 characters long), and the iPad 2 would no longer connect.
So I set the Airport back to 8 character password. And then had to go around, changing the wi-fi password on all the other devices on my network.
So the moral of the story: a 9 character Airport password will not work with iOS 7. An 8 character password does. I don't know about other lengths.
I hope somebody finds this useful.

My Airport has a 10-character password and I've had no problems.
    Perhaps you mistyped cap/LC?

  • Flash Builder 4 update 4.0.1 broke flash builder...

    Good morning,
I updated to the latest Flash Builder 4 build this morning, 4.0.1 (build 277662) and when I launched flash builder I'm greated with the following message in the package explorer:
Could not create the view: Plug-in "com.adobe.flexbuilder.as.editor" was unable to instantiate class "com.adobe.flexbuilder.as.editor.ui.packageexplorer.FlexPackageExplorer".
I've rebooted my machine to see if that helped and it did nothing.  I am running Mac OS 10.6.4
    Any help would be appreciated.

Apparently, Microsoft acquired Teamprise. I tried deleting all 'features' and 'plugins' related to Teamprise in Eclipse to no avail. I finally just removed FlashBuilder 4 and re-installed. The new download from Adobe installed 4.01. I then installed The new "Microsoft Visual Studio Team Explorer Everywhere 2010" Eclipse plug-in. You can get it here and the install guide is here.
Free upgrades will be available for qualifying existing Teamprise customers. I am currently running "Trial" version" until I figure out licensing. Anyone?

  • I think LR 5.7 broke the Sony A6000 raw conversion

i installed LR 5.7 yesterday and today i was out shooting with my Sony A6000.
back at home i noticed that the sky looked very ugly (like jpg compression, strange blocky artifacts).
i was shooting with ISO 100 and did not see this before.
so i opened older files from my A6000 and i see the same strange artifacts i did not notice before with LR 5.6.

    ssprengel schrieb:
I’m sure you can make the Camera Standard one as ugly as the Adobe Standard one is you crank up the Clarity on the Camera Standard one.
    nope tried that.
camera standard looks still much better.
but i found what causes it.
i use the BLUE and AQUAMARIN luminance sliders to darken the sky a bit.
when i let them at 0, both adobe standard and camera standard look nearly identical from the noise pattern.
    like i would expect.
but when i darken the sky with both luminance sliders and i then switch between "camera standard" and "adobe standard" the later gets worse.
i just never noticed this before because with LR 5.6 and before i set the default profile to "camera standard".
and you won´t notice any differnece as long as you don´t use the luminance sliders to darken the sky.
i just checked with my nikon cameras and they behave the same.

  • [Solved] Recent update seems to have broke automount in XFCE

I seem to have managed to break my removable storage support.  It had been working since installation several months ago.  I have made no modifications to anything in /etc other than those that would be performed by package updates.
    Tried copying /etc/skel/.xinitrc to ~/ and added exec dbus-launch ck-launch-session startxfce4.
Checked output of groups to ensure I'm in the storage group.
    Checked for presence of org.freedesktop.udisks.pkla:

    Hi,
I automount four NFS mounts from my ubuntu server through /etc/fstab. This used to work perfectly. Until the latest filesystem update. The removable devices do not get mounted. They do not appear in Nautilus. But when I plug in a USB, they all get activated.
Anyway, I will try your solution.

  • IOS update 8.1.1 broke my iPhone 6 mic

Something in 8.1.1 has broken my iphone 6's microphone.  I had skipped the 8.1 update by the way.  I went from 8.0.X (forgot what one it was) directly to 8.1.1 and now I can no longer use Siri or talk to text or the front video because the microphone is VERY faintly picking up sound in any of those modes.
Apps like the Voice Memo's work perfectly so does the speakerphone when on the phone and so does video when recorded with rear camera.
Do I need to take this to the apple store?

    Hello Zildjin,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
You can use the following article to troubleshoot microphone issues with your iPhone.

  • Todays Updates (01.04.10) broke pcmanfm /thunar

    Good Morning,
since todays updates pcmanfm (and also thunar - freshly installed after i noticed the problems with pcmanfm) doesn't work anymore. I can start it and open 1(!) folder,
afterwards i can't click on any files or folders - I can't even mark them (left-singleclick)...
    Please help

I only use the detailed list view, big icons that don't show any useful info drive me crazy
Strange thing though .... it does work when I open thunar/pcmanfm but if I enter a directory and then go up it stops working
    Seems like it is not working fine here after all .... maybe I should have read your post more carefully or tested it better ^^;;
    Edit:
If you downgrade all of these it works again:

You can find these packages here http://schlunix.org/archlinux/extra/os
Being on the bleeding edge has this downsides ... thats a big list of packages to put in the IgnorePkg list
