Updated to iOS5 on my ipad 2, Rental movies wiped.
As I think I selected use as new Ipad everything was wiped when I updated my Ipad, apart from being slighly bummed that I didn't back up everything before hand. My question is I had downloaded rental movies only to my ipad and now they are gone. So if I download them again from itunes will I be charged twice? Is there a why for me to get them back automatically? Thanks
If you re-download them then yes, you will be charged again. All films (rental or purchases) can currently only be downloaded once from the store, and if you rent and download a film directly on the iPad you also can't copy it to your computer - from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1415 :
If you rent a movie on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV, it is not transferable to any other device and you must watch it on that device.
So in future it is probably best to rent them on your computer and then sync them to the device that you want to watch them on

I'm sorry but I don't what the error means other than the ipsw file is bad - which is what it says in the article and it usually relates to something in the specific user account.
You did try creating a new user account on the Mac and tried updating that way? You have no security software running on the Mac?
The app that was downloaded using your son's ID should not affect the update to the best of my knowledge.

If you are wondering why you are not getting any responses, it is because you have vented a complaint without any details that make any sense or give anyone something to work on.
If you want help, I suggest actually detailing what has happened, with versions of software etc. Anything that would let us assist.
As a start I am guessing that you have not really got the hang of "How it all works". Firstly download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu. Read that and view the Video Tutorials in the same place. A good addition would be the iWork 09 Missing manual book and something to help you learn how to use your Mac.

I am trying to update to iOS5 on my iPad 2, but after the download completes, and file processing starts, I get an error message "There was a problem downloading the software ... the network connection timed out." Diagnostic tests check out OK. Any suggestions?
Temporarily disable your firewall and security software and see if that helps.

Griff W, If Sassysoo7's problem is anything like mine (it sounds almost exactly like the problem I posted in my own thread a couple days ago except mine is iPad only; iPhone is fine) none of those articles/solutions/suggestions you and others have linked to will work; I've been trying them for days and nothing works. As said, I posted about this in my own thread and several others and nothing anyone has suggested has helped. I know my Apple ID and password are correct, they work everywhere else.
When is Apple going to acknowledge this bug/problem and fix it?? -
I have several very important school related documents on my iPad in the Pages app. Ever since i updated to iOS5, i can no longer open any documents in Pages that I made before I updated. Please help
Without the iPad connected, open up iTunes on your computer. Go to iTunes/Preferences/Devices and delete the backups that you're absolutely certain do not have the documents. Refer to figure below.
iTunes, select the iPad and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "NO" to creating a backup. (You don't want to create a new backup that does not have the docs.) You will then be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad. This time, say "yes."
Repeat all of the above as required until you get the docs. -

I think that maybe you misunderstood. iTunes will erase the device for you as part of the update process. You so not have to do it on your own.

I updated to iOS5.0.1 on my iPad. Had a crash in the middle. I restored and everything appeared normal. The update is in the iPad but now I cannot sync either on USB or wifi.

Apple have just released iTunes 10.5.1 which I hoped was a fix but no.
Wired sync still works fine on both devices.
Ran iTunes diagnostics and the sync test caused iTunes to crash on several with both devices so there obviously seems to be a problem with the software. -

According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1415 :
You can move the rental between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period. However, the movie can only be played on one device at a time. If you rent a movie or TV show on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV, it is not transferable to any other device and you must watch it on that device.
So I assume that you cannot use File > Transfer Purchases to copy them to your computer (though there is no harm in trying)
