Updated to iphone 4.3.1 and SIM card can no longer be detected

After updating to the new iphone software, I received the message "no SIM card found in phone". I then tried to do a restore through itunes, and received a message in iTunes that there is no SIM card in the phone. The phone itself has now become unusable. We'll be taking it in to ATT, as it is likely dead. Anyone experience this? We've only had our phones for 2 weeks. Any suggestions are welcome!

Happily the phone was fixable. Took down to the provider, who ended up removing the SIM card and putting it back in--and guess what? It worked after that. I was then able to restore the settings, including the new system update, to my phone from my laptop.(I had backed it up before and after the update and before I did a reset). Who knows what caused the issue--I hadn't dropped it or anything like that. Hopefully just a fluke ...

    You'd only get that message if iOS 7.0 Beta was installed on this phone. There is no fix. Either return the phone for a refund, or give it back to your boyfriend & have him get it fixed.

I enter my email address (what is listed everywhere as my ID) and it does not recognize that.  I wondered if it is saved somewhere as something different so I went online to find it. When I go to the support page and request my apple ID, it takes me in circles to reset my password but never tells me my ID.  HELP!

    Before the reset quit Pages like this:
    Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app.

    I have been on the phone for Apple since 5:30 Eastern Time today. We are still on the phone with them. It is 10:14 PM. We are going to get a new phone because the ios6 has major problems! The wifi connectivity is a serious problem. Apple is aware of it. More people need to do something about it. I am willing to start a class action suit against them. I have means to an attorney pro bono. If you are having problems using your iphone 4 or 4s with wifi and ios6...I suggest you spend time calling a senior advisor and get a new phone sent to you. They know they messed up but they can't fix it.

    Was the device purchased as unlocked or locked to a specific carrier?  If locked, is the SIM card from that carrier?

    i Updated today to iphone 1.0.1 and my IMAP no longer works.
    Also just to validate i tried both wifi and EDGE. Symptoms as follows:
    EDGE: Just states "Connecting...." forever
    WIFI: States "Checking for Mail...." forever
    I deleted and re-added the account. It confirms that "Exchange account verified". so here is what i have concluded:
    1. my account is fine. worked yesterday pre-iphone patch and now doesn't work.
    2. it is not an edge only problem, since wifi doesn't work at all.
    3. i've tried both imap4 and exchange and neither works.
    4. i've tried to restore - and that didn't work
    5. i tried reset all settings. that didn't work
    PLEASE HELP - I REALLY WANT MY EMAIL TO WORK.......
    so now how do i undo the update? If i restore will the update go away?

    I am having the same problem. I have tried deleting and recreating the account several times. I have tried /, INBOX, /INBOX and INBOX/. I have restored.
    I can see my folders immediately. I can see changes to those folders immediately. I cannot get any mail! EDGE hangs at "Connecting" forever, WiFi hangs at "Checking for mail" forever.

    try resetting your phone by turning it off and back on again. Also, the server may still be slammed from all the activity, so it may take a little with to connect.

    Yes, your SIM Card is compatible with the iPhone 4, but it will have to be cut to size of Micro SIM to fit in iPhone 4. Your Carrier can easily transfer your # to a Micro SIM for you. If in the US go to ATT store and they can provide you with Micro SIM Card.

    Verizon iPhones are GSM unlocked by default, so get a SIM and try it.

    Well, welcome to the world of "hacked" phones. If your purchase was from the US, you obviously purchased an iPhone that is locked to a US carrier. The iPhone must have been jailbroken and unlocked via software to accommodate your foreign SIM card. Now that you have updated the phone, it is locked back to the US carrier. Only the carrier can authorize Apple to unlock the iPhone and none of the US carriers will unlock the iPhones. Best suggestion is to sell the phone and obtain a factory unlocked version directly from the Apple store.
    To answer your other question, there is not a supported method to downgrade iOS.
