Updated to latest iTunes--noticed locking up

Install went fine- had 10.3, overwrote it and put on latest, 10.7.
I've noticed some really normal procedures..lock it up.  10.3, my previous version...never locked up.
Like I was just highlighting a group on tunes to change the artist name............locked up.  Had to control-alt-delete.
Another time, the iTunes icon just randomly vanished from systray.
Why is this?

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

OK, lets do a complete overhaul to make sure it's working ok.
First to check your Windows system file for any corruption:
Go to command prompt (START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES right mouse click "command prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator"
    type in
    sfc /scannow
let Windows fix any system files that need to be repaired.
    Restart the computer.
Start iTunes and see if it is ok.
If it doesn't, will have to go through the whole process of uninstalling and installing acccording to the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
(Referenceinstructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components)
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • I have a Ipod Touch 3rd Generation and before I updated the latest Itunes, it was recognized by my computer fine.  Once I updated Itunes to the latest version, my computer no longer recognizez my Ipod and will not download a driver for it.

I can't download a driver to allow my computer to recognize my touch.  This was the problem after I updated the latest version of Itunes.

I just tried to install latest iTunes version and install failed. A pop-up stated "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. ERROR 7 (Windows error 1114)." I have a decent-sized iTunes library that is not backed-up to the cloud. How can I either get back to the previous iTunes version that was functioning OR install a new version without losing the Library?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • After updating my latest iTunes, the currupted program won't open or start, even tried deleting the program and reinstall.

On my Windows 7, my latest iTune, after udating to the latest version, I cannot open or start the program.  I even deleted the program from my system and then reinstall/download iTune from Apple Store, but the same problem persist.  Anyway to get back my iTune back?

    Hey there nkg0319,
It sounds like you have uninstalled the iTunes application but you are still not able to launch it after a recent update. I would recommend uninstalling the iTunes application and its associated files with the following article:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
Then download iTunes again, with this link:

  • MacBook Pro (10.7.3) not shutting down after updating to latest iTunes

This is a bit of a strange one, and after searching high and low, I haven't seen any other references to it, so...here goes:
I'm working on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) running OS X 10.7.3, and the complaint is this: the system will not shut down or eject a connected iPod (classic) or smartphone (Verizon Android phone) after updating to the latest version of iTunes.
I've been troubleshooting this for several days now, and I've tried the following:
    1. Created a new admin account and tested from there. No change.
    2. Created a backup image of the hard drive, erased & reinstalled 10.7, created temp admin account - issue resolved, but iTunes library unable to open because it was modified by a newer version of iTunes.
    3. Ran software update to bring system current (as of 20 April 2012)
    4. Issue reappears after software update.
    5. Reinstalled 10.7.3 from Recovery partition.
    6. Again, issue resolved, but unable to open iTunes library modified by newer version.
    7. Update iTunes, issue returns.
I actually did several variations of the erase & install routine, as well as several admin accounts, but the basic gyst of it is that after updating iTunes, the system hangs at the spinning gear on shutdown every single time.
The version of iTunes that is reinstalled with Lion is 10.5.1. I don't know which version between that and 10.6.1 is causing the problem.
Not sure where to go from here, so I figured I'd throw it out to the community.
    Thanks.

Well, after throwing my hands up in the air, I returned the MacBook Pro and iPod classic to their owner because I'd held onto them for over a week trying to troubleshoot the issue with no success.
Two days later, she contacted me and told me her iPod was the culprit -- it had some bad sectors on the hard drive. I had thought to check that, but she had data on the iPod that wasn't backed up anywhere, so I back-burnered that until later.
Glad to see I'm not going insane, though. ;^)

  • Updated to latest iTunes version now library is gone

    Help
I updated my iTunes this morning to the latest version 7.1.0.59
Now ALL the songs in my library are gone. Why did this happen and is there NO way to get the songs on my iPOD back to the iTunes library????

Well, it's possible that it's in a different location on your computer than "My Music".
You might want to try searching your computer for "iTunes" (a lot of results might come up, but just look for a folder called "iTunes", not all of the installation files).
If that doesn't seem to turn up anything, then the best idea would be to transfer the content from your iPod to your computer.
First, you'll need to prevent iTunes from automatically syncing with your iPod and deleting everything off of it.
To do that, follow these steps:
    1 - Open iTunes.
2 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
3 - Basically as soon as your iPod begins to display "Do Not Disconnect", begin to press and hold the Shift and Ctrl keys on your keyboard together simultaneously.
Continue to hold these keys for about 20 seconds after your iPod is showing up in the Source List in iTunes.
After you've done this, click on your iPod's name in the Source List, and under the "Summary" tab, tick the "Manually manage" option for your iPod. Click the “Apply” button in the bottom-right corner to save your changes.
    Now onto the transferring.
There are a few different ways to copy your iPod's songs to your computer, but probably the most straightforward method is to download a third-party program that can copy the songs from your iPod to your computer.
I would suggest that you try YamiPod. It's free, and I've heard it recommended a lot.

  • I recently updated to latest iTunes and now my pc freezes.  I have a Tosiba 32bit running Windows Vista. Itunes will no longer connect to the store and I get error 42408 when opening ITunes. Please help!!

When I open iTunes I get the error message 42408.
I have googled and tried various solutions including
    - uninstalling, downloading and reinstalling. I have done that about 5 times.
    - sending the desktop icon to the rubbish bin and recreating a shortcut.
    - de-authorising the audible account. My computer goes thru the de- authorisation process and says that the account is deauthorised then when I go to re-authorise under Advanced all that is showing is to de-authorise the account. Weird.
    - contacted a tech guy locally and he has no clue. He's thinking it's probably a conflicting software problem. Obviously.
I have to uninstall the iTunes program just so I can use the internet as the new version slows/freezes everything and makes doing anything on my computer ridiculous.
Everything on my computer runs fine when Itunes is uninstalled. Great. not.
I would appreciate some further guidance as unfortunately iTunes seems to have complete control over my life. LOL! Basically if iTunes fails the rest follows... It's a dominoe effect...

    Update:
I contacted Apple Support and they agreed to waive the $40.00 tech support charge this one time which was very nice condsidering their update caused major problems with my computer. I realise I don't have to accept the updates but when they are released world wide to the public I do expect them to work relatively smoothly.
To cut a long story short after following the tech support advice and uninstalling and reinstalling itunes 10.5 for the seventh time and more than a week of going in circles and days spent away from my business trying to fix the problem - I gave up.  Because, as a non computer geek,  (no offense - I think cg's are amazing)  what I need is a functioning computer and phone to run my business that can be both relied on - all the time. That is what I paid for and expected when I bought Apples' very smart iPhone - I did not expect to be plagued by an update to a program that causes chaos for over 7 days. (And to be frank I've had problems with iTunes for the whole time I have been using it. From importing cd's to purchasing problems. gah!)
I may be one tiny person in a very large universe but I believe a certain standard can and should be expected when handing over hard earned cash to a company with a good reputation.
    I'm very disappointed with Apple.
Unfortunatley they have lost a customer...
This is how I fixed the problem:
Yesterday I bought a new smartphone - the Samsung Galaxy phone uses the Android Market and the Kies program. The phone is as good as if not better than the iPhone. The Kies program runs very smoothly on my computer. Downloading Apps is a breeze. My new phone is about the same size as the iPhone and a tad lighter.
    Problem solved!
As a side note - I will now save about $250.00 per year on my new prepaid phone plan with Boost compared to staying with my previous post-paid plan. I also get unlimited standard national calls in Australia plus unlimited texting too! Not bad for $40.00 a month.
While this solution worked for me it may not suit everybody.
