Updated to Mountain Lion, Facetime doesn't work

Hi
Since updating to ML, I have a Facetime connection problem.
Calling out, I get a "user is unavailable" message
Trying to receive calls, the caller ID reads "null" and I do not get a connection
Any suggestions?
Thanks

You can't run Windows on a Mac unless you use BootCamp or a third-party utility such as Parallels Desktop.
Perhaps you mean Microsoft Word (which is part of the MSOffice suite).
Only MSOffice 2008 and later will run in Mountain Lion.
However there are very good free alternatives, such as LibreOffice.

  • After installing Mountain Lion, TextEdit doesn't work anymore.

Before, I used OS 10.6.8, but tonight after updating the new system Moutain Lion, TextEdit doesn't work any more.
TextEdit is something I use offen, I need a solution.

Image Capture is one of the applications that comes with the OS and there doesn't appear to be a separate download for it. You would have to reinstall the OS to get in back if it isn't there.
Depending on the printer you have, you may have an option to scan from System Preferences/Print & Scan.
try deleting the .plist - com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist
.  Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • I have a canon multifunction printer that used to work with snow leopard but since I updated to mountain lion my printer stop working, How do I make it work again?

I have a canon multifunction printer that used to work with snow leopard but since I updated to mountain lion it stoped working. How do I make it work again?

This problem is not unheard of when upgrading from Snow Leopard. It is usually solved by completely deleting the existing printer in System Preferences > Print & Scan, and adding it again.

  • Mountain Lion Email doesn't work even with 10.8.1 update!

My mail application completely failed shortly after the upgrade to Mountain Lion. None of the user advice has repaired it from these forums, so I have now resigned myself to using my ipad and iphone to conduct all my business emails. I was hopeful that this first 10.8.1 update from Apple would restore the my mail application. I can frustratingly report that no, it certainly hasn't. No change in fact. I click on the mail app and the beachball of death continues for about 5 minutes then it comes up with a message 'there is a problem with your mailboxes' with the option to quit or quit and rebuild index. If I choose that latter, the beachball resumes it's rotation forever or until I hard reset the machine as all other programs crash at this point. Apple, please help FAST, this is no way to run a business!!!!

Agreed, but I think that for most Mail seems to be working fine. There don't seem to many posts complaining about Mail problems - well no more than usual.
Have you tried a Safe Boot which sometimes helps in solving odd problems. and if that doesn't help, re-installing the OS using the Recovery HD?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
For a Safe Boot restart holding down the shift key until you see a grey progress bar. Once booted restart as normal from the Apple menu.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, Windows doesn't work

    Hello,
I've just upgraded my computer to Mountain Lion (from Leopard) and Microsoft windows 'the Power PC applications are no longer supported'.  I've tried to download different version of Microsoft windows - still doesn't work.  Help!?
I'm aware that this question may have been posted but somehow can't access the main community room.
    Thanks

  • Problem in connect legacy afp in Mountain Lion - HT4700 doesn't work

For this problem, i have tried the suggested steps in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4700
Though it states it works for Lion and Mountain Lion but my 10.8.2 ML still does not work after all the steps are performed.
    Evidence for the steps done:
    defaults read /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_host_prefs_version
    1
    defaults read /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_disabled_uams
        "Cleartxt Passwrd",
        "MS2.0",
        "2-Way Randnum exchange"
    Symptoms:
    - If i use Guest account for afp://<ip-address>, it will connect without problem before and after applying HT4700.
    - If i use registered account with username and password for afp://<ip-address>, it won't connect but always show:
There was a problem connecting to the server XXXXXX
    - The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported.  Please contact ......
    Questions:
    1) Please advise the log path for the above error so that i can at least know the error code and more informaton to search.
    2) If it relates to UAMS, why Guest account is allowed without problem?  Guest account is more risky than all above 4 disabled authentication methods!
    3) Will this problem occurs in 10.8.2 only as HT4700 KB was announced before 10.8.2?
Thanks in advance for all suggestions and solutions.

For other website forums, the main cause is that the required version of netatalk from OSX 10.8 requires higher version as 2.2+. If your old AFP machine can update the netatalk to higher version, you can backup data and try it.
For my case, i can't update the netatalk to later version and it seems the only way is to use Guest account to connect to that old AFP machine (i hence need to redesign the network diagram )  Anyway, i am still trying to find any better workaround for this problem.

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
    Or whatever Interface you use.

after a long in "stop" period, the internet connection (ethernet) doesn't work. before updating to mountain lion this problem didn't exist.

Gave up on the GUI.  This script derived from http://blog.netnerds.net/2012/07/os-x-how-to-setup-nat-on-lion-and-mountain-lion / seems to work for me:
gwdev=en0 # This is my WiFi connection (has Internet connection)
targetdev=en1 # This is the USB to Ethernet adapter (to give Internet connection)
    /sbin/ifconfig $targetdev down
    /sbin/ifconfig bridge0 create
    /sbin/ifconfig bridge0 up
    /sbin/ifconfig bridge0 addm $gwdev
    /sbin/ifconfig bridge0 $HOST_ADDR
/sbin/route add default -interface bridge0 -ifscope bridge0 -cloning
    /usr/sbin/sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1
/sbin/ipfw add 100 divert natd ip from any to any via $gwdev
    /usr/sbin/natd -interface $gwdev -use_sockets -same_ports -unregistered_only -dynamic -clamp_mss -enable_natportmap -natportmap_interface $targetdev

  • Line 6 tone port gx doesn't work properly after updating to mountain lion, i'm hearing artefacts, how is that possible?

i am using logic 9 and line 6 toneport gx for recording my guitar. on the previous version of OSx everything worked perfect, but now, after updating to mountain lion, i hear noise after i play something. the settings were: input: toneport, output: coreaudio, 44100, buffer 512. now they are the same and i have noise. i've installed the latest drivers for toneport and changed the buffer settings. when the buffer is large, i can play some seconds without the noise but it appears after 15-20 seconds. and when the buffer is small it appears faster. i assume it has to do something with the buffer size but i don't know for sure. any ideas?

I have the same problem after updating to ML. It's unusuable for recording until it gets sorted out.
I think it's a problem at the Line 6 end. They are aware of it, and are working on some patch/fix to address the strange artifact sounds, so hopefully it will be ready soon.

    Whats the fix?

Forget all the suggested solutions for correcting the WiFi connectivity problems with the 2008 MacBook Pro. None of them work. Just purchase a Bear Extender (bearextender.com), install its software, turn off your computer's WiFi (and don't turn it back on!), plug the Bear Extender into your USB, and you will have consistent WiFi connection. Bear Extender never drops!
