Updated to X.4.9 all applications have ground to a halt

This may be a topic that has been posted before But I've gone back through the topics and haven't found one that addresses this issue.
I just upgraded a G5 w/ 1.5 Gb RAM to X.4.9, and through the normal Apple updates it is now up to X.4.9. Since that time almost every application takes up to 5 minutes or more to load. The performance I had in X.3 has gone right down the tubes, ie. the eject key on the keyboard functioned last night, but when I started the unit up today it stopped functioning. Everything just seems to take 3x longer to do.

The overall system performance will be sluggish until the Spotlight indexing is completed which I forgot about.
Repairing disk permissions is not near as important as checking your boot volume for any directory errors with Disk First Aid repair via Disk Utility when booted from your Tiger install disc which should be done before installing a major OS update such as 10.4.9 and before installing Tiger over a previous OS X version such as Jaguar or Panther with your Tiger install disc.

In FINDER, all applications have .app after it now, why?

HI!
Just got a new iMac. Used a firewire to migrate the date from my old eMac.
Anyway, now in FINDER, all of my applications have .app after them (iPhoto.app, Dictionary.app, iChat.app, etc).
When I click on something in Finder...I have to double click it and it opens the application directly. If i single click it highlights it in black.
Before, when I would single click on iPhoto (for example) it would open a new screen with the camera icon and information on iPhoto, then I would single click the camera icon and then iPhoto would open.
How do I get rid of the .app? I like the single click and not opening an app directly?

Just to let you know, I even went down to the Apple store and asked then what to do and they didn't know! They told me to leave it alone.

After update to 10.8.5 all files have date 05.01.13, including within programs. Why?

Aftr update to 10.8.5 12F45, I just noticed that all my files - photos, emails, you name it, EVERYTHING, is dated with 05.01.13. Files that I have not touched for months, expiration dates of credits cards, everywhere there is a date field - there is only one date and that is 05.01.13. What is going on?

Hi,
This Users Tip was written to Enable the Reinstall of iChat.
AS it is the app itself rather than the support parts that is missing you should be able to do the "Easy Way" for that app.
Insert the Install Disk.
Drag window large enough to see the Option Installs Folder
Open that and then Launch the Optional installs.mpkg.
Select iChat and select Continue to Install.
This will install iChat at the Install Disk Level.
As iChat gets up dated with certain OS Updates you will need to Download and run the Combo Version of the last OS Update you did.
Download the .dmg.
Expand and launch Installer.
Run it over the top of what you have.
The Users Tip also tells you how to use Pacifist to Open the Install Disk and select various bits.
Obviously this can be used for the other apps you are Missing.
These too, will need you to "Run the Combo" afterwards.

Just updated premier pro cc and all applications are broken

I deleted all the programs and all the files related to the progras, did a fresh re instal of after effects as a test, same issue.
Importer/ exporter is broken, cant import or export at all, spent three hours on the phone waiting to talk to someone, finaly did and thir sugestion was to start a new Admin account on my mac, that did not work so, yeah f- me, I am loosing money everyday I cant edit.

Spinning wheel on desktop after all applications have quit

Ok. My macbook is a little old (2008 operating system ios 10.6.8). So i am not shy to the various issues it's been suffering through lately. But this one is new. When I go to my apple icon to force quit an application that is making my computer run a little slow. It says that Finder is not responding. So I forcequit it and now the spinning wheel wont dissapear from my desktop. Every other application works fine. And when I'm on safari the cursor is normal. But heres the kicker. When I quit safari. My tool bar on the top including my apple icon dissapeared and the spinning wheel is still on the desktop. Something isn't right about it I think finder is on the fritz. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Trying to save this old lady.. Other than that she's doing pretty great. Thanks a bunch

All ready have 3.6.12 but keeps trying to install and i keep getting failed message every time i start my computer

It shouldn't be necessary to reboot the computer to complete an update.<br />
If a reboot is needed then that usually means that some (security) software is blocking files or you need elevated Administrator permissions.<br />
Run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as ... : Administrator).
If that still causes the same problem then remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install. You need to download a fresh copy of the full version from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html

All users have same bookmarks

Updated to Mavericks. Now all users have same bookmark set and changes by one user changes bookmarks in the other accounts.
Any ideas?

All the users are synchronizing Safari with the same iCloud account. That's what you have to change.

The system for update from version 9.0.0 does not work at all. "There are no updates" listed in the dialog.

I'm having this issue as well only with a little different twist I guess. I'm transferring the iWorks applications from my Macbook Pro 3,1 with Lion to a new MBP 10,1 running Mountain Lion. I transferred the apps over using DropCopy since the older MBP doesn't have AirPlay. Applications show up but crash upon opening. This is the first install so there are no previous plist, versions or such to delete. All three crashed upon opening every time until I just had to have Keynote and purchased again - although Apple agreed to refund that purchase since my previous version quit working. Any ideas since I don't have any previous plist/versions to delete? Thanks in adavnce for any help you can offer.

You will not lose everything on you phone if you backup prior to updating. You can do it maunaully (simply by syncing your phone with itunes) but when you update iTunes will prompt you do back up your phone anyways. After you've updated you can reload everything on to your phone with the itunes back up.
