Updateing an app to run on both 2.0 and 2.1

Sigh.
So it seems that provisioning support for multiple apps has changed yet again. Now things are going back to separate profiles for each app. Although this makes more sense than the wildcard approach, I'm very confused about how to post an update that will work on all devices. Some people are hesitant to upgrade and won't. I don't need anything in 2.1 so I'm happy to just keep going with 2.0. But I've no idea how. Should I use wildcard or yet another new app specific provision?

Hmm, well, as far as I can see builds from 2.1 don't work in 2.0 so that's probably a wise choice.
I'm not sure anyone is doing builds in 2.1 for now and probably won't until Apple gets it settled away (multiple uploads into itunes connect, I guess)
I would be more concerned about making sure you 2.0 works in 2.1 I hadn't really thought about this too much, unfortunately, but really probably should have.
I wasn't aware that a release was around the corner. They need an RSS feed for this.
I'm not even sure how to install 2.1 in my simulator. Hmmm. Fun fun fun!

That indicates that you have apps that need updating that were purchased with the account that comes up. When you have apps that need updating that were purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until all the remaining apps were purchased by one account.
You have to log into the account that purchased an app in order to update it.

I have had this issue lately.
I can only put it down to using the one computer to update all our IPads for me and my wife.
Some of our apps, although downloaded from both our seperate accounts on our IPads, are the same.
However after plugging her IPad into the computer when my AppleID is on ITunes, I think something strange has happened and when she then tries to update Apps on her IPad and I try on mine it now asks for the others Apple ID password.
The only way I have found to counteract this is to update an app one at a time, if that app asks for your wifes password then delete it and then reinstall it.
That has solved it for me.

No. purchases are forever tied to the apple ID used to buy them. Delete them and buy your own copies.

Only if the developer of the app can issue you an older version. Otherwise, you can't.

I think its meant to show your name, not your ID.

Apps are tied to the Apple ID that was used to purchase them and you will always need to use that ID and password in order to update them.
Saying that you do get to update them on your new details makes no sense at all.

When I try to update an app I type my apple ID password and a box pops up with "Unknown error."

There's no rollback in the application if you encountered failed during the installation.. The application profile will be lost... ****....

Try update the app using iTune (computer) and sync to iPad.

In App Store, ok to update while app is running?

My general programmer instincts tell me that I should close an app before I update it from the web. But when I'm about to update an app in the App Store, it never tells I need to close the app first. What's the best procedure here? How can iOS update an app that's open? Thanks.

I update my browsers all of the time while the app is open in the recents tray. I do not "close it" in the recents tray. However I have never tried to update the app and then go back to actively use it at the same time.
My non programmer instincts tell me that I don't think that would work, but I have never tried to use the app and update it at the same time. Why take a chance and mess up the download.

I have an iPhone 4S, with the latest OS, 5.01 I believe it is. Most everything is great except everytime I have updates to download and install through the app store, I get a message saying "cannot install livingsocial and 6 other apps." The issue is that I only had livingsocial for a couple weeks then deleted it. That was a few weeks ago. Also I have no idea what the other 6 are. All my updates install fine, I just keep getting this message. And livingsocial and whatever the other 6 apps are never show up in the updates section, I just keep getting the stupid message. I click ok and it goes away. How do I get it to stop trying to install these apps? I've seen a ton of information about something similar happening on sync, but my issue is occurring during AppStore updates for which I can find no information!

That seems like a really odd coincidence that both ours say "and 6 other apps." As far as the app waiting thing, I've never tried tapping it twice, but I would hold down til all the apps started shaking to move or delete, but this one is the only one with no x for delete, so when I tap it nothing happens. I have tapped it repeatedly but never exactly twice. But after a short while, no matter what I do, it will just disappear on its own. In fact, I saw your "tap twice" message very soon after you posted it and was going to try it, but it had already disappeared by then.

It appears as if the OS currently on that machine was not the original OS? If so, you are running into this problem because the seller did not do what he was supposed to do - he was supposed to erase the hard drive and reinstall the original OS. And, if he got either the OS or any apps at the app store, they are not transferable as they are tied to his Apple ID forever. That is why you will have to pay for them using your own Apple ID. And, if he obtained the current OS at the app store, you may also run into another problem: you may not be able to reinstall the OS if needed as that is tied to the original Apple ID as well.

My apple ID is correct on my App page but when I try to update my Apps it has an incorrect Apple ID so I can't sign in to update my apps. I have tried signing out and signing back in, I have turned my phone off, the settings is correct too.

The username in settings-general-apps is correct and the username on the App store page is correct. The only place it is incorrect is when I try to update my apps. I had the same thing happen today on my wife's phone. I couldn't find any answers on the support site and of course I could not get any help from Apple since my phone was old. I kept digging and figured out how to fix the problem. I opened the app store app and signed out of the old id and then signed back in using my new id. It looks like this may have fixed the problem.
