Updater fails on MacBookPro2,2, Snow Leopard 10.6.2

I had Acrobat Professional 8.1.6 working on my MacBookPro2,2, Snow Leopard 10.6.2.  When I tried updating to 8.1.7 the updater failed, saying the installation has been changed.  So I removed the installation and reinstalled from DVD.  It started as 8.1.3 and successive updaters brought it up to 8.1.5.  Now the updater to 8.1.6 fails with the same symptom.  What shall I do?

I answered a Possible way in another thread that you posted to it involves the use of Target disk, you want to copy an application from one computer to another. Here they are in case you missed it.
   1. Turn off both Machines.
   2. Connect same Ethernet Cable to both machines.
   3. Start up the one that has the defective install in Target Disk Mode (hold down Command Key and press T while starting up) You should see a Y shape icon bouncing around the screen.
   4. Start up your Machine that has the good copy.
   5. When booted up if connection is right, you should see you computer with bad install shown as an addition Hard Drive.
   6. Double click on drive wit defective install go to applications folder  and remove Acrobat to Trash (Do not empty at this time)
   7. now Drag copy from good machine to machine you removed acrobat from application. (you want to copy from good copy machine to the other).
   8. Now shut down Main machine Down First. Then one designated as Target Disk.
   9. now Disconnect ethernet cable.
  10. Finally Restart Computer you copied to (one that was setup as Target Disk) normally.
  11. Try Acrobat. You may have to remove preferences.
This applies to anything you need to copy from one machine to another.
PS: Originally Target disk was setup for ethernet to ethernet. There was talk of changing the specs so that it would work on USB2.

  • Migration assistant update for Mac OS X Snow Leopard

    Hello -- I downloaded SNOW LEOPARD successfully that past week. I did a software update as well afterwards.
    Now in preparation for upgrading to LION OS X, I read an article that mentions one must make sure to have the MIGRATION ASSISTANT UPDATE for Mac OS X Snow Leopard installed. I am unsure if this was included in the software updates I performed. One would assume it would be there. BUT there is not a detailed listing of what these combination updates include. HOW can I tell if I have the desired version required to continue on to LION?
    Another suggestion was for one to perform FIRST AID on the start up disk. It only says to select your Mac HD and then to "verify" ..... do they mean to VERIFY DISK or VERIFY DISK PERMISSIONS. I have on occasion performed a REPAIR DISK PERMISSIONS but not the others mentioned. I do not know what the difference is?
    THANK YOU

    I have the same console mesages repeating ad-nasium as you do. What is interesting is I do have the StartuoItems directory but it is empty. The problem I have is that the log-in window comes up as normal, but I can not type in it for about 5-8 seconds. This has started after the latest updates which you mention. Don't know if this issue is related or not. Have deleted the loginwindows and loginitems preferences to no effect.

    Hi,
    I want to know is it legal to using my personal AppStore account to update my office Mac OS(Snow Leopard) to Mountain Lion?

    This can be found at http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#APPS
    MAC APP STORE PRODUCT USAGE RULES
    Except as otherwise set forth herein,
    If you are an individual acting in your personal capacity, you may download and use an application from the Mac App Store (“Mac App Store Product”) for personal, non-commercial use on any Apple-branded products running Mac OS X (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control.

  • Update Version 10.6 to Snow Leopard.

    I am trying to update Version 10.6 to Snow Leopard. I keep getting this error messages 'The Software Update Server (192.168.16.6) is not responding.’

    You might want to make sure your iMac will run comfortably with Mountain Lion.
    What model iMac do you have?  (e.g. early 2008, early 2011, etc.).
    How much RAM memory is installed in your iMac?  I wouldn't advise going to Mountain Lion if you've got less than 4GB of RAM....Mountain Lion is pretty memory-hungry.

  • Failed updates in CS4 Web Premium (Snow Leopard)

    From what I've read, this is probably a problem with Snow Leopard, but I haven't found a solution.  Every time Adobe updater runs, the following programs fail to update:
    Adobe CSI CS4 1.0.1
    Adobe Soundbooth CS4 2.0.1
    Adobe Version Cue CS4 Server 4.0.1
    It's getting really annoying and I want to fix it.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi, I was able to find the answer at http://greenbeast.wordpress.com/2009/09/21/problem-solved-snow-leopard-and-cs4-updates/.
    To access the hidden folder Go to Finder, press Command-Shift-G
    Type or paste the following text: /Applications/.AdobePatchFiles/ and hitReturn or Enter
    You now see the contents of the folder. Delete the contents.
    Run application Adobe Updater again.
    Hope this helps others with this issue.

  • Xcode fails to launch on Snow Leopard

    If I attempt to launch XCode from the dock (as a standard user), I simply get an error message (see end of his message). The same happens regardless of the way XCode is launched, ie, from Spotlight, from the Applications folder, from the Applications stack. However, if I switch to an administrators account, I can launch XCode successfully but ony if I launch from the dock; Spotlight launch fails with the same message.
    I tried to redownload XCode from the App store but the App store version only supports Lion. What can I do about this apart from the obvious upgrade to Lion which I don't want to do just for the sake of XCode and am concerned about corrupting my bootcamp partition which is vital for me. I can't risk the upgrade to Lion if there is even an outside chance of losing my bootcamp partition as I have heard of from various forums.
    Although I am an experienced windows developer, this is my first foray into developing for OS-X/iOS platform so I haven't got off to a great start.

    Before giving up, make sure you can't download it from the App Store Purchase list. Sign in with the same Apple ID you purchased it with. I purchased Xcode 4 for $5 when I first got a Mac. I updated through the App Store through 4.2 before eventually updating to Lion. You can see Xcode for Snow Leopard still appears in my purchase list. I can't test this because I don't want to mess up my install.

  • Program fails in Krb5LoginModule on Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6)

    Hi,
    FWIW, I've already file a bug report with Apple for this, but maybe you can help me. We have a program that authenticates against Active Directory using Krb5LoginModule. It's been working for years under Mac OS X, Windows, Linux and FreeBSD, but under Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6), using JRE 1.6.0_15 it fails with the following stack trace:
    09:16:36,451 ERROR LoginDialog:225 - Password check failed: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: EncryptionKey: Key bytes cannot be null!

         at de.unikoeln.rrz.uklanadmin.services.LoginService.checkPassword(LoginService.java:47)I've read the source and found that pre-auth works. Actually that's all we care about, we don't need the keys at all! But this call in Krb5LoginModule fails:
                  // update keys after pre-auth
                  encKeys = EncryptionKey.acquireSecretKeys(
                   password, principal.getSalt());Please refer to http://openradar.appspot.com/radar?id=76405 for more details.

    Thanks. I'd already set debug=true in the config file (and with map.put in your example). Apple does indeed use /Library/Preferences/edu.mit.Kerberos instead of /etc/krb5.conf. I can see that the settings there are picked up by programs I run in the Terminal, e.g. kinit. I'm not so sure they're picked up by the JDK. I have tried to set permitted_enctypes to just des-cbc-crc, but that didn't seem to have any effect.
    As for your code example, the result is exactly the same (as I had expected). krb5.initialize() works fine, but in login(), at exactly the same spot in the source, I get exactly the same stack trace. For reference, it's this block in attemptAuthentication():
      669                   // We can't get the key from the keytab so prompt
      670                   if (encKeys == null) {
      671                       promptForPass(getPasswdFromSharedState);
      672
      673                       encKeys = EncryptionKey.acquireSecretKeys(
      674                           password, principal.getSalt());
      675
      676                       if (isInitiator) {
      677                           if (debug)
      678                               System.out.println("Acquire TGT using AS Exchange");
      679                           cred = Credentials.acquireTGT(principal,
      680                                                   encKeys, password);
      681                           // update keys after pre-auth
      682                           encKeys = EncryptionKey.acquireSecretKeys(password,
      683                                                           principal.getSalt());
      684                       }
      685                   }The call in line 673 succeeds, but the one in line 682 fails. The reason is in this method:
        182       public static EncryptionKey[] acquireSecretKeys(char[] password,
      183           String salt, boolean pa_exists, int pa_etype, byte[] pa_s2kparams)
      184           throws KrbExceptionThere it's this part:
      204           EncryptionKey[] encKeys = new EncryptionKey[etypes.length];
      205           for (int i = 0; i < etypes.length; i++) {
      206               if (EType.isSupported(etypes)) {
    207 encKeys[i] = new EncryptionKey(
    208 stringToKey(password, salt, pa_s2kparams, etypes[i]),
    209 etypes[i], null);
    210 }For one of the values in etype[], the stringToKey method returns null. The source code is taken from OpenJDK. It's not available with Sun's JDK, so I haven't been able to step through that part in the debugger.

  • Installation fails on OS X Snow Leopard

    I have an app using the sidecar installer, when a user tries to install it on Snow Leopard it goes through the process and eventually gets to this error message:
    This occurs when I try to install from a CD. Here's the install log:
    UI SWF load is complete
    stateRunningAppInstaller: appinstaller -runtime "/Volumes/startrungrow/Install Start, Run & Grow Your Business.app/Contents/Frameworks" -withRuntime -url file:///Volumes/startrungrow/srg.air
    App installer failed; exit code 7
    begin quitting
    AIR is not installed after it closes. If the user already has AIR installed, then the installation succeeds.

    I re-downloaded the sidecar installer and it appears to work in my initial test.
    Is it possible that, despite still being AIR 1.5.2, the installer was updated? The installer we shipped and the installer that's up for download have different filesizes.

  • Install fail iLife 11 and Snow leopard 10.6.3

    Well the title says it all. I have installed a clean retail version of Snow leopard 10.6.3 on some school machines, Ilife11 should install (according to the spec) but fails soon after starting with an unspecified error. DVD is new and clean (and retail). Drive known working ( just installed OS with it) All updates run and rebooted. Would look like an installer issue but anyone any ideas? I can't update the OS for various reasons so stuck with this set up.

    Thanks - Yes for anyone else who has this issue. Keep running software updates - especially the OS and anything relating to iLife and installers. It took three runs of update to solve the issue. Thanks for help.

  • I have iPhone 4 with newest update and Mac laptop with Snow Leopard and current version of iTunes. When I hook the phone up via USB, iPhoto pops open and reads the pictures for import, but iTunes doesn't do anything. Not seeing the device as a USB, either

    Sorry, thought that was the body of the question, so the title is long. When I plug in my iPhone 4 (newest update) into my Mac laptop (current version of iTunes, Snow Leopard), it does not read the music, apps, etc., or open iTunes at all. It syncs the pictures, but it doesn't not show as a USB device, either. I have gone through the Troubleshooting assistant, restarting both comp and laptop, using different USB ports, etc. If it is of note, when I look at the option to Sync through Wifi on the phone, it says that sync will happen when my computer (by name) is "available." Not sure if this is a phone issue or laptop, leaning towards laptop, since iPhoto syncs. Willing to buy Lion if that will fix the problem! I would appreciate any help that is given.
    Regards,
    Lindsey

    You have written a very long story, and I admit I have skipped most of it.  But I think the question is you are on iOS 7, and cannot get the latest version of iTunes (11.1.5) on your computer because your OS X is too old.
    The fact that you chose not to update your hardware does not mean you could not update your software!
    OS X 10.5 is very old (about four years).  iTunes 11.1.5 (current version) requires at least OS X  10.6.8 to run.  Very likely, you could upgrade your computer's software to at least OS X 10.6.8 and then download the current iTunes on it.
    You would start here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Then you would update the OS X 10.6 to OS X 10.6.8 over the air, then download iTunes (or update to a later OS X, as the current version is 10.9.2).

  • Software Update ignores Scheduled Check under Snow Leopard

    I've tried asking our local Apple Genius Bar about this, but they weren't able to help me.  Here's the problem:
    I've upgraded to Snow Leopard on my late 2006 Mac Pro last year and changed my daily user account from Administrator to User.  I run the Stanford Folding@Home on this Mac 24x7, so it is always on and awake.  I noticed that I stopped getting notified that Software Updates were available.  I regularly check the Internet Storm Center and they announce OS X updates as well as the Microsoft updates.  When I run Software Update, I am challenged for my Administrator account and password (as I would expect) after which the program checks for updates and identifies the updates that are available.
    My question to the Genius was why do I have to run this manually when I have set the Software Update preferences to Check for updates Weekly and Download updates automatically is checked?  I have checked this setting from both my user account as well as my Administrator account and they both show the same settings.
    Since then, I've added a Mac Mini running Snow Leopard and I set it up with an Administrative Supervisor account and User accounts for all of the family.  The Mac Mini never notifies us of updates, either.  Plus, I supply tech support for my in-laws' Macs and they all exhibit the same behavior.  This has been around since OS X 10.6.3 (the first version I installed) and every update since.  So, obviously, I know how to configure a Mac to break Software Update, but how do I "fix" them to let everyone know that it's time to update the Macs?
    Thanks for any help you can lend me.

    The software update can be run within a Standard users account it they have an administrators user name and password.  I am thinking that if you set a schedule for an standard user and the account is logged on then software update will not attempt because that use don't have the privileges to change system information.  The Software Update schedule is saved separately for each user of a Mac.  Try leaving the administrators account log in and see if it works.  Note: Thus another user's account may automatically download updates even when your account has them disabled.
