Updater fails, tried 5Rs, diag test. Songs gone but capacity full.

My Ipod (4g 40 gb) was working fine and then all of a sudden acted up. I went to play songs and they all disappeared on my Ipod. The capacity shows 35gb filled, so they are still on the HD but not accessible.
I have tried the 5Rs, (cant restore cause updater wont recognize my ipod) and I really dont want to restore as I am travelling.
The problem occured when I plugged my Ipod into a computer (windows) here at the place Im staying...the computer would not recognize my Ipod and I could not disconnect safely so I had to pull the plug.
I have tried nearly everything to try and get the updater working, but I either receive "your ipod being used by another application" (tried ending Service.exe but would not let me) or updater freezes. It wont let me do anything.
Diagnostics I passed the 5 in 1.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as music is CRUCIAL to my fun on my trip!!

PS reading this forum it seems far too many users have similar problems, is there a class action suit for this issue? Ipods seem very unstable.

What happens when you try? Anty errors or messages?

There are only a very, very small percentage of iPod owners here. Something like +50 million iPods sold in the last 6 months alone.

Ipods seem very unstable.
They do? If you are going by the posting here, then it would seem[/m] that way but again, this is only a very small percentage of iPod users.

After updating to 12.1.2.27, songs play, but without any sound output to internal iMac speakers

So i updated to 12.1.2.27 and songs 'play', but without any sound output. Checked my audio settings and had it at Internal speakers. Checked the speakers (they work, at least for YouTube vids), restarted machine, etc and no audio output from iTunes. Any suggestions? Am I missing something?

Try unchecking Sound Enhancer and Sound Check in your Preferences under Playback
Sound check may have reduced everything to a low output level inadvertently.

HT4623 Itunes update failed; tried to reinstall; get error message that I need to confirm I have authority to run the program?

I plugged my iPad to my computer this morning and it said there was a new version of IOS available. Tried to install.
Install failed.
Now itunes won't open: "The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
Went to www.itunes.com, downloaded and tried to install. Install failis saying I need to verify that I have credentials to run the program. Choices: Abort, Try again, Ignore. Needless to say the only choice that works in Abort, so I can't connect my iPad to iTunes.
Is there a way to uninstall the program and then try again?
Or other fix?

its very annoying but you have to log out of your account. than try to buy the sone. it will ask you to sign in. do it. the sond will start to download. it only works once, so you have to do it over and over for every song :/

I am trying to follow the instructions to uninstall iTunes because it will not update to 11.1.4. I uninstalled iTunes, then Apple Software Update, but when I uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support it goes throught the whole thing, but it does not uninstall it. It is still there. Iphone 5 update failed via iTunes. Needs to restore but keeps getting errors.

Just tried to update my iphone 5 to iOS 6.1 through iTunes in WIndows 7. First time actually, usually I have been updating directly in the phone without any problems.
When iTunes tried to update my phone it got an error, seems it didn't even got to begin updating it. Now iTunes keeps telling me I need to do a restore of the phone to be able to use it. Got the iTunes logo and a USB cabel on the screen.
Anyhow, it seems to work untill it are ready to implement the restore on my phone. The apple logo and the progress bar appears but nothing happens, it just won't move.
After a couple of minutes iTunes drops the connection to the phone and gives me an error code of 1611 and my phone goes back to the restore/recovery screen.
Seems there is a problem with the USB transfer? The weird thing is that I've been synchronizing without any problems earlier. Though when iTunes was about to begin update it installed the Apple Mobile USB drivers again, perhaps that might be the problem?
I have also followed steps in the support area with disabling security programs, reinstalling iTunes etc without any luck.

Problem solved when trying restoring on another computer. Thank god!

Elements 12.1 update failing (U44M1P2003)

The update is downloading and running. It stops to ask for any open Editor/Organizer sessions to be closed and then fails at 99% with the message: "Updates could not be applied". The error log contains: Error Code: U44M1P2003.
Windows 7 (Home). I did have both Elements 10 & 12 installed. I have removed 10 but the same problem.
I have only used the Editor for several versions as I have Lightroom installed but if I start the organizer I get the message: "Bitmap file was not found or is out of date. Bitmaps will be preloaded from individual files. This message should never be seen if the project is correctly built."
I have started started a new catalog and deleted all others but still get the message about the bitmap file.
Any suggestions.

FIXED. One of the other threads with a similar issue mentioned the update log
C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Temp\PSEPatcher12dot1.log
Looking in this showed the update failing trying to update a file that did exist! Anyway I cleaned this windows temp folder out as much as possible (Win+R; %temp%, run, select all, delete) as it had a lot of files in it and the update got further before failing. Next step was to turn off the Trend (Titanium Maximum Security) virus checker. And finally it updated.

During the tests, I noticed on a lot of machines that changes are revert at reboot.
I decided to split the big updates group in smaller updates groups.
The first tests seem good but I would like know how manage the order of deployment groups order?

the only way to control the update Groups is to assign different deadlines and not configure them to be installed at the same time. But if the deadlines has passed then there is no way to control the order.

Every now and then my iPhone shows me a screen that says "update failed 6" and then below two buttons cancel or accept...
I don't know what it means, can somebody help me please?
I know that propably with doing a clean install it will help but I also really want to know what it means

It first occurred to me when going abroad (to The Netherlands), there it suddenly popped up on my screen, after the "update failed 6" message I also got the "update failed 8" error on my screen. But now since I got back to the country I live in, it started popping up here now and then.
Maybe it has something to do with the provider? Because right after the first time I got this error, I received a message that I needed to restart my iphone in order to get my internet (mobile data) working abroad.

Are there problem reports showing up in there which always seem to be recorded when the iTunes crashes happen? (The events may not necessarily be listed as iTunes problem reports ... so check through the entire problem history for reports produced as the same time as the iTunes crashes.)

Tried to update ipod Touch 4th Generation, Update Failed, iPod won't work

So less than twenty minutes ago I tried to update my iPod touch, knowing it had been asking this for a few days. The update failed, as as of now my iPod Touch is stuck on the picture of the iPod cable with an arrow pointing at the iTunes symbol. I've tried holding the two buttons to force it to shut off, it does- when I turn it on I get the apple logo so I know it turned on, only to get it again. When plugged into my computer, it is not recognized by anything. Going to Computer it doesn't see it as plugged in, and on iTunes nothing comes up with connected objects. This happened to me once in the past and I had to go to the Apple Store to have it fixed... can anyone tell me what to do so I don't have to go to them, or am I gonna have to take some time and drive over to have them take a look at it? Also, when removing my iPod from the computer, i get the sound that you get when you remove something from your computer, meaning it knows it's plugged in, just not reading it for some reason.

iPod Touch 4G 32GB. I had same problem when I tried updating iOS; iTunes says restoring iPod, but after a while gives error 1603. I tried all suggestions from support: recovery mode, other USB ports, disconnect all other devices, uninstall and reinstall apple s/w and drivers, disable all other services using msconfig, confirm USB are 2.0, re-download updated software, reboot computer, name it! I finally installed iTunes on old Dell Inspiron P4 running XP, plugged iPod in it and device got recovered immediately! Put it back in Win7 computer and performed backup restore. Everything is back as it was. I have no idea what prevents s/w update on main computer. I realized I never get "waiting for iPod" message during attempt to restore, while I do on old Dell. I wonder what triggers this message.
