Updater seemed to fail. Firefox will not load any longer. Tried uninstalling, but cannot successfully download Firefox

Have used Firefox for several years. Latest update came automatically. First I got message that updater failed. Now Firefox refuses to load. I uninstalled and tried to download again. Still failure.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)
Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
(%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates)
* Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

  • Firefox will not load. Attempted to uninstall, but said it said it could not because Firefox was still running.

I have checked hard drive for problems...nothing. I have Norton's Internet Security running...nothing apparently happening security-wise.
I have not added any new programs or changed anything.

Thanks JorgeP and jevanstar for you response to my problem. I really appreciate it. This is my first time using this method of problem solving. Glad it is available.
I tried to access the SafeMode with the instructions you provide. When clicking on the Mozilla program in the list, surprisingly there was not a drop down for Safe Mode! There is one on my desktop, but not the problematic laptop. Don't understand that. Apparently, no way into SafeMode.
Next, I attempted ot uninstall Firefox. It would not allow it because the message said that the program was running, although there is no evidence that it is.
Next, I decided to go back to an earlier date and do a Restore. First, I tried two days prior to the problem. Restore said that it could not restore due to an error. Nothing changed.
I then went back to a month previous and attempted to restore, but alas, the same problem with restore.
Yesterday, I carried the laptop (Gateway, several years old by the way, but had been working beautifully), to a friend in the computer repair business for a check up.
If anyone has an idea, let me know.

  • Firefox will not load any web page, other programs will. Continuously "connecting"

Firefox will not load any pages, but Google Chrome will. Firefox will 'load' the home page, but with any other site, the tab will continuously circle and say "connecting". I have tried clearing my cache, starting in safe mode, and restarting my computer. So far, nothing is working.

Update..when I open firefox from scratch, the main firefox pages on the home page seem to work. But as soon as I try to go anywhere else, IE going to a website in the address bar or even trying to access the defauly bookmark links, it just sits there loading but never brings anything up.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Firefox will not load any web pages since update

Using Galaxy Nexus, installed update today. I have ICS version 4.0.1. Pages will not load at all. Even the firefox pages on the home page will not load. I verified with using both wifi and my network, and checked the stock browser from the phone which works, but no success with Firefox. I uninstalled Firefox, restarted my phone, re-installed, and the same issues are happening. Any idea how to get this back to normal?

The message says to check my internet connection and my firewall to make sure firefox is allowed to use the web. Everything looks ok to me and I do not know how to fix it, help!

  • Time to time firefox will not load, says it is running but cant close and reopen

Every once in a while Firefox will not run, it says something about a file in the profile directory and that it is running and to close the current session or restart. I run task manager but it isn't running. It seems to fix when I clean my computer, I haven't noticed a pattern to this it's just from time to time.

Firefox never opens. It is trying but nothing seems to change, no matter how much time is allowed.

  • Firefox will not load any website, it just tries until it times out, is there a security setting either inside or outside of Firefox that might be causing this to happen?

Firefox was operating normally until I ran a virus scan. I have tried everything I can think of. The computer is connected to the internet because other applications are working and even updated from Microsoft are downloading. I am running XP. Everything else seems to be working as it should.

I've cleared cache, I do not use a proxy.. The problem occurs both running Firefox normally AND in safe-mode.. As I said earlier in this thread, this laptop is used almost exclusively at starbucks/mcdonalds hotspots.. One thing I've noticed is that when I'm at a starbucks which has google wifi vs the old attwifi, I often do not get any "splashpage", and am immediately connected to the internet, in which case FF comes up perfectly normally, and I don't have to use Chrome to "check the box"... Its pretty darned annoying.. Since this occurs in safe-mode, where, as I understand it, there are NO addins loaded, this has got to be FF itself demanding access to the internet prior to it fully starting.. As I also said earlier, when I start FF just after booting the system, I see FF as a zombie process when I do a "ps -xua" (this is Debian/testing/64bit). Once I have internet access, apparently that zombie process becomes non-zombie (is that even possible??)

This can be caused by a firewall blocking internet access to Firefox. See [[Firewalls]]. That link has a list of popular firewalls and how to configure them to work with Firefox.

  • Firefox will not load any page.

Looked at the article "Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can" but I'm an idiot and can't figure out what I'm supposed to look for. The instructions of where to go in IE are different than my IE. So, don't really know what I'm looking for.
To my knowledge, there have been no recent upgrades to any of my software - nothing I have done.

    Hi,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
If you have security software (antivirus, firewall etc.) installed and the problem started after updating Firefox, you can try deleting all existing instances of Firefox and its related processes/files in all the different configuration modules/areas of the security software like process monitoring, sub/spawned process control, virtualization, HIPS etc., in addition to the security software's main configuration panel. Instead create new fully allowed/trusted rules for Firefox + its related processes in all the different modules/panels - a genuine/original Firefox installer as well as all the installed EXEs (Application) and DLLs (Application extension) are digitally signed by Mozilla Corporation (right-click > Properties > Digital Signatures). Even otherwise, some security software may also ask again when Firefox and/or its sub processes are started, and you may be able to allow/trust at that time.
