Updater won't update Ipod

I downloaded the new ipod updater and now when I go to update the ipod it won't allow me to click either update or restore. How can I update the ipod?

I been havung the same problem for the past five
days. I tried everything even a different USB port.
I'm beginning to think this is a trick fom Apple to
make customer purchase a new more expensive ipod. But
hey could just something else
Doubtful... I am having the exact same problem, and mine is a brand-new ipod. I've only had it a few days. The issue is definetly related to the Ipod updater software. I was trying to get it to work with the Nike Sport Kit. I guess I am glad I still have my receipts: I can still return both.

    Try re-indexing Spotlight.

If worse comes to worse, and it is in your Purchases tab, delete 1.0.3 and download it again. You might need to do Spotlight again.

  • ITunes and iPod updater won't recognize iPod

I'm running Windows XP and it shows the iPod is there but it won't show up in iTunes and iPod updater after 'initializing' for a good 5-10 minutes says either 'could not recognize the iPod' or if it does let me restore give the 'Firmware update failure. Diskwrite error.' I have the latest iTunes and iPod update and went through all the steps in the 'Windows recognizes iPod but iTunes does not' Troubleshooting help section. All these problems started when I tried to update with the new iPod updater software and got an error, everything worked fine before. I have also tried using a friends USB cable the problem is obviously in the Nano itself. Is there any way to safely format without using the iPod updater? or what should I try doing next?
Also it seems like when the nano isn't plugged into a power source it drains the battery, with nothing showing on the screen because it always starts charging when I hook it up to the computer even though it was fully charge before.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hello,
I too am having this exact same problem. My iPod nano was working perfectly until this "latest update" Since I installed that update my itunes and my ipod updater will NOT recognize my iPod. I am getting all the same error messages as you.
I have done EVERYTHING recommeded in the support pages. Reinstall, uninstall, install, reboot I've done it all a hundred times. I have over 5 pages of support documents I printed up and I followed them to the T. I have 10 different USB ports including 3 2.0 USB ports. My windows recognizes the iPod instantly, but the updater will not.
I 'm starting to think it's a problem with the update software.
Please, if anybody has any advice other than "www.apple.com/support/ipod" please post something. I have had my Nano since October and never had a problem with it and I really, really miss it right now.
    Thanks

  • Ipod updater won't work; ipod won't reinstall

After re-installing my itunes, it won't update my ipod. I was advised to restore the settings to shop settings and so have downloaded the ipod updater - but when I try to run it, as I wait for the 'update'/'restore' screen to come live, I get an error message, which I have to click 'ok' and the whole thing goes off.
Meanwhile on the ipod, I'm either getting the unhappy ipod icon, of a thing which looks half like a battery and half a black zig-zag.
    Help!

I also have the same problem since I did the iTunes download to '5', I also have the error message which reads; "The iPod Cannot be updated. An unknown error occured(-50)" The iPod has even been back for repair 3 times, but no fault was found. I have established that the fault is with Apple's iTunes download of '5' which has not been cured by downloading number 6. So when will they write a 'fix'? The effect of this download on my other computer has been that iTunes itself will not open. (See the discussion forum on this problem, it is huge, but still no 'fix' from Apple). I now have an empty iPod, and iTunes that will not do its job. Not impressed, my husband has ditched his iPod and bought a Sony. If this is not sorted out soon I will be doing the same.

  • Switched from a PC to a Mac, now iPod updater won't update!

Anyone out there had a similar problem? I switched from a Sony Vaio PC which is what I used for my iPod Mini originally until I switched to a MacBook Pro. I was able to use Senuti softare to transfer my music from the Sony iTunes via the iPod then to the MacBook Pro iTunes. However, iPod updater refuses to update the iPod because of the Windows format originally used on the iPod. Restoring the iPod will only take it back to Windows format without any songs. How do I format the iPod for Mac from here on? I will NEVER go back to Windows! Thanks for anyone that can help.

If you use the Mac version of the software to restore your iPod, it will be formatted for your Mac. Download the latest software for your iPod, connect it, and run the updater. Choose Restore and once it's done you should be good to go.

  • HT1557 10.9.2 update won't update on my imac 2010 at all, and now my computer won't shutdown or restart without a hard boot.  Did anyone have this same problem and figure out how to fix it?

So for the past few weeks I've been trying to update the 10.9.2 update on my imac (2010 - 21.5 inch) and when I attempt to try to update the software my screen goes grey with a Software Updater top bar the shows up on the top of the grey screen and then just quits doing anything (except the screen saver which works after nothing else happens - and that shows you how long I've been waiting for the grey screen to magically do something.  I've attempted downloading the software update then installing it but the same thing happens.  I don't think any of my 3rd party software is the cause of this and i'd rather not uninstall the programs since the update won't even do anything.  Utility is telling me nothing but the usual ARD element unable to be modified.
With the several failed attempts at installing this update (probably around 15x) my computer will not shutdown nor restart on command anymore.  The only way I can shut it down is holding the power button.
I used to have so much faith in Apple products and used to be a devoted user, but since Jobs passed away the direction of Apple has gone down the toilet.

Well Bababooey if you're comparing yourself to a Apple Genius Bar then you should already know my answer, your snarky remark get a snarky reply.  Why would I go to a salesperson to fix my computer problem when I can go directly go to the source itself.  I used to sell Apple computers over 8 years ago and was apple certified before the Genius bar existed. If I am to go about fixing an issue I can't fix on my own I will go to the source itself meaning Apple's programmers and developers - being UI UX Developer myself I know they should have QA'd all platforms and troubleshooted any arising issues.
This was also the first time in the 20 years I've been using a Mac that I even attempted to go on this forum which i thought would put me in connection with a certified Apple representative.  This turned out to be a complete waste of time just being a public forum with no Apple employee involved.  I was hoping to find a quick fix but in turn I was only frustrated with stupid responses such as yours that were in no way an answer to my original question.
BTW I fixed the issue on my own and without your help or Apples help. I'm glad if all forums point here regarding this issue because I now have the answer. The answer I was looking for from someone earlier was as simple as this {Download Maverick and reinstall the platform - it will take an hour to do but afterward 10.9.2 was installed and my computer is now able to shutdown and restart without having to do a hard boot.}  No more software update bar at top and no problems with my drive which I told both you and Grant - I know my computer better than you and I've probably been using them longer than you.
So again Babowa you were so wrong...... and I am right.
Again anyone having the same problem, I suggest reinstalling Maverick and you'll be suprised 10.9.2 will work fine.

  • 10.5.3 Update won't update

For some reason, the new 10.5.3 update won't install for me. I go to Software Update, and it shows me three updates available at the moment (Quicktime, Mac OS X Update, and Airport Utility). I click the install button and type my password to restart, and the installing updates dialog comes up. Next, nothing. The progress bar won't move. The system doesn't completely freeze up (I can still move the window around and the cursor isn't the beachball thing) but nothing happens after that. I hold the power button to turn it off, turn it back on, and it's working without any problems; I just can't update.
    1. I hear 10.5.4 is coming out sometime soon, and that people are having problems with .3, so should I just wait until that happens?
    2. If there is a workaround to this, what might that be?
    Thanks

    G'day,
First things first - do you have a backup of your system? Make sure that you do - before upgrading the OS.
In terms of the Software Update hang, try going to /Library/Updates and deleting everything that is in there. You should then be able to run Software Update successfully.
I have found 10.5.3 to be worthwhile. There are some bug fixes (my wireless now works everywhere I go, and there are clearly fewer memory leaks in the OS). Some people have had troubles. For example, there is a nasty 10.5.3 bug that caused Firefox 3 to lock up.
    If you decide to update:
    1. Only install the OS update. Don't install anything else till you have the OS stable.
    2. Don't do anything else whilst the update is in progress (i.e. no open applications). It might be a good idea to login whilst pressing the shift key, so as to disable any login items.
    3. Reboot when it tells you to reboot.
    4. Test everything when it is done. When you are satisfied, then install the other updates.
    5. If you have any problems with the update, try the [combo update from Apple|http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1053comboupdate.html]

  • Adobe software update won't update - Turn off DynamicLinkManager?

When I go to HELP in any of my Adobe software and select UPDATE for software update it starts to update great but, then stops because it wants me to close DYNAMICELINKMANAGER.
Its not open anywhere but, it won't continue the update till I close it on my MacPro running Lion.
Where do I turn this off?

    Hi Kevin,
Im having a hard time getting a good answer but, Im upgraded from 5.5 to 6.0 and need to quickly add my custom mapkey setting from one to the other.
It was very frustrating to find out that from 5.0 to 5.5 that I had to recreate them all as a power editor  and in Final Cut Pro we were able to export or find them very easily.
My biggest pet pee is that I have been told that I need to look for a .kys but, on my MacPro searching on SPOTLIGHT is doesnt exist anywhere.
I urgently need ADOBE to make this more evident because its is really a key root feature that needs to have some attention too.
Im a part of the Bay Area Professional Video Association in San Jose and this is a basic need to be able to export or find my custom mapkey file for PPRO5.5 for 6.0.

  • TS1702 The apps which were due for update won't update when asked on our iPad and the apps remained blacked out. Does anyone have any suggestions how we can get the apps downloaded? We updated the device last week.

Our iPad 2 won't update e apps for some reason they just appear greyed out and won't complete.  We have the latest software so can't understand why it won't update.
    Any help would be appreciated.

telling me to buy a new router is NOT a solution.
And why not? Apple is selling these things like BigMacs. They can't make enough of them. You've been suffering since May because you refuse to get a decent router.
Can you imagine if a company that makes a refrigerator told me that I needed to upgrade my electrical system to rectify a problem with their device? What kind of response IS that?!?!
What if the problem with their device is that it requires a new-fangled "grounded" outlet and your circa 1890 house doesn't have grounded outlets. Would you refuse to purchase a $ 25 adapter on principle?

  • HT5167 Latest OS X updates won't update

When trying to download the latest updates I keep getting: "The update "Mac OSX Update" can't be saved.  An unexpected error occurred."  Have tried many days now & at different times, but never get any of the updates done before this error message shows up.  Any ideas?  Appreciate any words of wisdom!

I had this issue, and what I found, is that even when logged in as an administrator, you will only have read-only acccess to the Library/Updates folder.
Try adding the admin account in 'Sharing and Permissions', make sure it has Read & Write access, then 'Apply to Enclosed Items'.  Then run the update as normal.

  • Updater Won't Recognize iPod nano.

I made the mistake of unplugging my nano when it told me not to (Updater locking up problem). Now I can't get Windows to recognize the iPod and when I try to restore it with iPod Updater, it freezes the program. I got it to work one time and it said that my iPod isn't supported by the update, but that can't be right. I've reinstalled everything more times than I care to count. Any idea what I can do to make this thing work?
      Windows XP

I had a similar problem and found, on this site, the following which worked.
"1.Download HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool (Google it) and install.
2.Connect iPod to USB and set the iPod in Disk Mode (details are on website)
3.Run HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool and format to FAT32
4.Run iPod Updater 2006-03-23 and select restore
    5.Run iTunes and copy music".
The only difference, I did, was run Updater 2006-06-28 and, I believe, after the restore operation I changed back to the iPod from the Disk Mode.
As with any advice I do not guarantee results.

  • Updater won't see iPod G4 - am i up the creek?

Trying to run Ipod Update to restore my G4 to factory settings. Update version is 6-28, Powerbook G4. The updater says "plug in your ipod", I plug it in, nothing happens. The screen of the ipod just keeps recycling between the apple logo, frown face image with support page, and the low power alarm.
