Updates are being installed by system administrator - stuck!?
Snow Leopard Server seems stuck on this process and indeed I am now scared to reboot!
I have logged on as a diradmin and the updates are visible in the Software updates and despite my clicking install, it does not and seens hung at this process and then if I log out and attempt to apply "software Update" via the Apple menu it tells me that it cant as "Updates are being installed by the system administrator"...
Its a catch 22, closed loop of some sort!
thanks
Graham
Hi Linda,
Please try the steps mentioned below:
> Enable the hidden Admin Account on Windows 7 ( Ref : http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-wi ndows-vista/ )
> Disable all Non-Microsoft Startup Services. (Ref : http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/disable-startup-items-services-windows.html )
> Disable all the Antivirus softwares like CA, Norton,Mc Afee etc. temporarily from the computer.
Reboot and try installing in the new enabled Admin user account and check.

I have an Apple MacBook on which Lion 10.7, plus all updates, are successfully installed.
Can you tell me if TechTool Deluxe, normally supplied with Apple here has been now tested and found to run successfully?
I have run the program to check a problem that I'm having. The particularly with video, and also volume structure. TEchTool Delux reports a failure for both of these components.
I am wondering if this is realistic or not, given the start-up screen for TechTool Delux mentions on start-up that it has yet to be tested fully with Lion?
With thanks, Ron.Yes, I understand, however, he Macbook is out of its Applecare, but the TechTool it still on the machine. Does that entitle me to an upgrade in TechTool?
I suspect not, hoever, seeing I am running Lion, I am not sure at all? If you can answer this question it will help as then Imight be able to solve the problem I'm having.
Best regards, Ron -
Updates Were Installed by System Administrator
I ran Software Update today and this message popped up. It popped up after it checked but before I actually installed anything. What does it mean? I'm the administrator of this computer, and I didn't install any Software Updates yet.
Plus I appear to be stuck in a loop. When I check for Software Updates, this "Updates Were installed by System Administator" box pops up. I hit Check Now, it thinks for a while, and the same box then pops up.
Who is "System Administrator" ? This computer is not managed by any sort of administrator other than myself.Just curious whether turning off the use of the maintenance service, then exiting and restarting Firefox would bypass that message. You can turn off the service in the Options dialog under Advanced/Updates. See: [[Advanced settings for accessibility, browsing, system defaults, network, updates, and encryption]].

1) just an 'ole lady here - on a pc - not a system administrator (though I think have admin rights in windows 7).
The details:
a) had a lenovo small format pc running XP - Acrobat X Pro worked fine on this pc, could create pdfs and fillable forms etc.
b) Just bought a used pc with Windows 7 Enterprise - after a week of issues - duh - I realized X Pro was not working on the new(used) pc, except to let me open a pdf, and even add a text box, or sign or line out a change in a pdf. - that is all it will let me do..
c) I had a purchased CD of Adobe Pro Standard. In 2012, I was able to upgrade it to Adobe X Pro 10, while still on XP, with a digital download, for which I have the registration key.
The X Pro version showing this morning was 10.1.12 (before I uninstalled it, and I assume after various updates).
I've also tried repairing the installation - and selecting the function I need PDFMaker (to work with MS Word) -
I have uninstalled Adobe, and re-installed it, from my old downloaded file the version is 10.0.0
Finally read that I should have deactivated it on the old pc.
Called Support, and they gave me an all new, full version (download) of Adobe X Pro at 5 pm est, and a NEW S/N.
I uninstalled, the old version, ran ccleaner, restarted the pc, installed the new X Pro 10.0.0, used the new s/n and still cannot use Adobe.
Still can't, create a pdf, combine files from word or create a form from a word doc - nada. Also, do not seem to have Adobe Reader anywhere on this pc, either (a good thing from what I've read).
When I was on XP I did not have this problem. Now that I am on Windows 7 Enterprise, I have the problem.
(I am using MS Office 2003 and do plan to update to 2010. Using Google Apps for Work, small business working from home, did not like Office 365 since I am on a MiFi hotspot for internet (country living))
Maybe all of this was more information than you'd want or need... just was not sure what is is causing the conflict/problem.
Feeling out of my depth with this and really need some guidance / help / specific steps to take - Thanks in advance for your help!

Updates are not installed?
Hello everyone ;-)
my name is Thomas and I have to do an evaluation on Patch Management Systems for Windows Embedded OSs (WES7, XPe, Win 8 Embedded).
For testing purposes, the write filters are disabled at the moment.
I've set up a lab environment:
Everthing is virtualized on Hyper V (MS Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V role:
MS Server 2012 R2 x64, all recent updates installed: AD, DNS, GC : VLAN 1
MS Server 2012 R2 x64, all recent updates installed: MS SQL Server Enterprise SP1 x64, latest CU update : VLAN1
MS Server 2012 R2 x64, all recent updates installed: MS SCCM 2012 R2, latest CU update : VLAN2
MS Server 2012 R2 x64, all recent updates installed: AD, DNS, GC: VLAN2: shutdown at the moment
WES7 Clients: VLAN3
XP Clients : VLAN4: shutdown
Win 8 Embedded Clients :VLAN 5: shutdown
Inter VLAN routing is done by a Layer 3 Switch, everything works, pings are successfull, all firewalls (including Windows firewall) are shutdown.
I've managed it to get the Client Push Installation done, the Clients can find the SCCM, i can do task sequences on the clients, SCCM is synchronising the updates.....
BUT: The updates aren't installed on the Clients, nothing is shown in Software Center? I can't find Errors in the logs, can anyone help me?
I' tried it on a WES7 client, but also on a Server 2012 R2 member Server, the result is exactly the same error?Hi,
Have you enabled the client setting to enable Software Updates on client? Boundary and Boundary groups correctly configured? Check the WindowsUpdate.log file on the clients to make sure that there are no conflicting Group policies and that the SCCM/SUP is
configured as the Windows Update server to use.

Jörgen

I have checked the sccm cache, and the 2 updates are in.
I have already cleared the cache, but nothing.

Hello,
I have the same problem for some weeks now
Once my Mac started, I have a notification from Creative Cloud agent telling me that I have 10 apps to update.
So, I proceed to those updates, downloading then installing.
After finishing my day, I shutdown my Mac.
Then, when I starts it again, I still have the notification for 10 apps to updates.
I tried to apply updates directly from the update agent into an app. Nothing change.
Does someone already met that kind of problem, and solved it ?
Thanks.

Firmware updates not being installed
Hey,
I have a Mid-2012 MacbookAir with all the latest software updates. There are only three firmware updates that always show up over and over again after I've installed them. I've tried everything but the firmware just won't get updated.
Updates:
Macbook Air SMC Firmware Update 1.9
Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2
Macbook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1
What I've tried:
Reset SMC
Fix drive and drive permissions in recovery mode
Install updates manually from apple.com in safe-mode
Delete contents of /system/library/firmware updates/ folder
Yes the charger has been connected to the computer while updating. I have never used FileVault so it's not on. My computer is working fine, but I'd like to have these updates installed because they fix some serious problems that might eventually break my computer or erase all my data if left unfixed. On top of that I can't install Mavericks until I have Flash Storage Firmware 1.1 update installed.
Does anyone have any ideas what to do next? Please read this whole message before doing anything.
Back up all data. Quit the App Store application if it’s running. Test after each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/Updates
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder selected. Move the contents of the selected folder to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
Step 2
Do as in Step 1 with this line:
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
If there's no change, quit the App Store and restore the file you moved from your backup, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, recreate your settings in the Software Update preference pane.
Step 3
Hold down the option key and select
Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash (some may not exist):
Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.*.plist
Saved Application State/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.savedState
Here, "*" stand for a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes.
Step 4
If you still have problems, quit the App Store again.
Select this line and copy it to the Clipboard:
open $TMPDIR../C
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window. Depending on which web browser you use, you may have to press the return key. A folder should open. Inside that folder, there may be a subfolder with the name "com.apple.SoftwareUpdate". If so, delete it. You can then quit Terminal. -
Hi, Just wondering if anyone has seen this before and resolved it?
Basically, 2012 Software Updates have been working fine for over a year. Last months Patch Tuesday updates were fine too.
However, this week I added a new update to a Software Update Group/deployment. This update did not deploy, and when I run a report, I get "Enforcement state unknown" for ALL clients in the collection. This happens to any deployment I amend. And
also if I create a new update group and new deployment - same thing - "enforcement status unknown".
However, updates previous to this week continue to download and install fine for all deployments. Deployments which I have not changed appear to continue to report correctly (unknown, compliant, pending system restart, etc).
In the SCCM console for Software Updates, the "required" and "installed" figures are still showing correctly.
Custom software packages continue to download and install too.
All servers have sufficient disk space. Most collections dont have maintenance windows, and the deadlines are correct.
Not sure what this could be, a problem with the Management Point? But I can see any errors in the "monitoring" view on the server. The client log files like "wuahandler.log" and "windowsUpdate.log" appear fine also, no obvious
errors.
I cant see any evidence of a group policy conflict. The WSUS entry is still correct in the local group policy (GPEDIT.MSC/admin template/windows comp/ windows update).
Any ideas here? ThanksThere were absolutely no errors in WUAhandler.log on existing machines - all looked normal, which baffled me. Machines with newly installed SCCM client only had machine and user policy update, so could not check for Software Updates.
However, I through web searches, I found a solution on another discussion here:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/1cefa9e0-a7f9-48d1-83b9-34d2293bab64/sccm-2012-r2-problem-with-device-deployment-user-deployments-ok?forum=configmanagerapps
Basically the issue was described as a "corrupt PADBID in the database". A SQL query code detects if the issue is present, and another SQL code fixes the issue.
What lead me to this fix was searching for this error in "CCMEXEC.LOG" online: "System task 'PolicyEvaluator_Unlock' returned error code 0x8000ffff".
