Updates are confusing me

I have a 5th gen 30 GB iPod video (wifes), purchased in June of 07,as well as an 80 GB iPod Classic (mine). purchased more recently. I got the updates notices on both iPods while syncing our music, held off for a week or so like I usually do and ran the updater & installed through iTunes ver 7.5 with success. (I don't plan to ever rent movies so I don't feel any urgency to update to 7.6) My confusion is this: The update said I needed to go from 1.2.1 to 1.2.3 on the OLDER white iPod video 30GB and The update took my NEWER 80 GB Classic (aluminum) from 1.0.2 to 1.1.
These updates though successful, seem odd to me, Shouldn't the Classic have the higher update number? The classic has the newer OS with the "split screen" and the iPod video has the older display. Can anyone straighten out my feeble brain?

Yes, I was aware that the two iPods each have different OS's I guess my brain went sideways and made me think that the newer iPod would have higher update number than the older 5th gen. the versions wouldn't run concurrent. Silly me Thanks for jostling my gray matter

  • The latest CC updates are confusing

It appears that versioning has changed in the latest update.   For example, The latest update of Adobe Lightroom used to be the one with the highest version number, however today's update seems to be called just "Adobe Lightroom" with no version number.  Some of the other applications seem to have unusual confusing versioning also.
Why does Adobe insist on keeping older versions on CC anyway?

This is not the correct answer.
The program is called "Adobe Lightroom CC(2015)" when it opens, but it displays in my start menu on Windows 7 Enterprise, after the upgrade by CC app, as "Adobe Lightroom"  with no "6" no "CC" and no "2015".   This is NOT consistent with the behavior of versioning of the other native CC Technology.  For example, the new Photoshop displays as "Adobe Photoshop CC(2014)" on my start menu and opens as exactly the same name.

  • Which Security Updates are needed for 10.3.9?

Since 10.3.9 appeared, the following Security Updates have been released: 2005-05, 2005-06, 2005-07, 2005-08, 2005-09, 2006-01, 2006-02. Now I note that "Security Update 2005-008, Security Update 2005-009 and Security Update 2006-001 have been incorporated into [2006-02]."
But apparently 2005-05, 2005-06, and 2005-07 have not been incorporated into any later SU (so far as I can tell), so while I can delete 2005-08, 2005-09, and 2006-01 from my utilities disk, I have to keep the earlier ones to install before 2006-02?
It would seem to make sense to incorporate all the post-10.3.9 SUs into the latest one, instead of just the last three; anyone know why this hasn't been done?
Yes, I could erase the HD on my iBook and resintall 10.3.9 and use Software Update to figure this out -- but I've found that confusing as well, since Software Update doesn't mention some updates until the updates preceding them have been installed. You have to invoke Software Update over and over to get the complete picture. Not to mention that I don't particularly care to have to reinstall the whole System every time a new Security Update comes out and muddies the picture again.
The Apple security updates page just lists all the updates, without mentioning which of them incorporate/supersede earlier ones. Does anyone know if there's a way (such as an Apple KB article) to find out exactly which Security Updates are presently required with 10.3.9?

From my reading of the situation you describe there are several reasons that one update triggers another update. Sometimes the first update causes issues that were unforseen and they are fixed.
Sometimes the updates are solo because later updates cause problems for users and they wish to stop at a specific update (my take on this is that there is something wrong with their system and if the system was correct the updates would not cause problems)
Sometimes the updates are sequential because one update builds on another.
Sometimes updates are combined (as you wish would happen all the time).
Updates always give me a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach because there have been a couple that have caused problems/revealed problems with my system that had to be tracked down.

My Ipad 2 cant find my HP3050A j661b airprint printer although the printer is connected to the same wireless network and software updates are current on all and my other laptops also work properly with this printer.further more it used to work with my IPAD2 before when I used the old wireless router but now I changed it to HAUWEI HG231f but I set everything in the same way it was. Thanks in advance.

When you change to the new router, did you re-run the CD to re-set the new SSID and password to the printer.
Otherwise your iPad will not be able "talk" to your printer.

You need iTunes 10.0 or greater to update your phone...iTunes isn't confused at all. If you're on a Mac, you'll need OS X 10.5.8 or greater to update iTunes to 10.0 or greater.

  • FF3.6.13 keeps telling me updates are available but it has been connecting to server for days when is it going to happen

I/m using winXP SP when i open FF browser a message appears in the bottom taskbar updates are avaialable Igo into "check for updates"& another box says "downloading the update" &"connecting to server" but this has been going on for days how long does it take? I have used up my 2gig monthly download from OPTUS but with the slow connection updates should be done by now any help on whats wrong?

[[Updates reported when running newest version]] - link
The cause could be due to your user agent being mixed up as 3.6.12 and 3.6.13 versions. I think downloading 3.6.13 from www.mozilla.com and then uninstall your 3.6.13 and then install the 3.6.13 you downloaded should fix it in this case. Your settings are in a separate place ([[Profiles]]) and not in program folder.

  • Servers where patches will not install automatically or manually, Live updates are broken and when checking installed updates shows "NO UPDATES ARE INSTALLED ON THIS COMPUTER" SFC \SCANNOW will not run

Hello, (Bit of a long one but please read)
We have 3 servers in same physical location and server OU etc that are exhibiting the exact same behaviors (we have server servers in this location that are not), as above theyt are all W2008 R2 SP1 and all built from the same standard
image we use on hundreds of other computers, they have also been in production for different amounts of time and we started to see this behavior at different times with them: (Its odd they are all in the same site where there are also several other servers
that are not effected, there must be a link ? )
These servers are all missing several patches when checking our internal tool that reports from IBM endpoint management that we use to deliver patches (they are not all missing the exact same patches some ore or less than other), although
SCCM (we used SCCM to deliver patches until around 6 months ago) and IBM EM are both running (some ptches hark back to the SCCM Delievry days) they are not patching and when attempting to patch manually by downloading the exact patch coresponding to the fixlet
ID and the KB , the stanbdalone installer starts and after some time you receive an error message “The update is not applicable to yoru computer”. Windows update returns error 80070006 for all of the servers.
it is worth noting that other applications and products also using the .MSU extension will insatll so it is not a problem with the installer service.
The above led me to think a corrupt patch may have stopped the sequence of patching so I then looked in “Programs and Features” => “Installed updates” and this is blank for all of them returening the message:
“NO UPDATES ARE INSTALLED ON THIS COMPUTER”.  (this I believe is a part of the fundamental issues and resolving this may resolve the patching)
Another issue is that if you run  “SFC /SCANNOW” It starts the scan and then returns: “Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation” (Also in safe mode and both from an elevated CMD and WMI is started as a service)
The all three are probably related so I think fixing the “SFC and NO UPDATES SHOWN” issues will resolve the first.
The things I have tried so far are:
Running : wmic qfe list full /format:htable > c:\updates.htm             Should produce a list of updates but instead returns :  No Instance(s) Available (this is not hopeful)
Fix: Ran the “SYSTEM UPDATE REDINESS TOOL” from  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
Result : Update Ran successfully but NO CHANGE
Fix: Ran the automated and manual fix “RESET WINDOWS UPDATE COMPONENTS” here :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en then undated windows update agent.
Result : All ran successfully and NO CHANGE
    Fix: Ran MBSA
Result : Runs successfully and then stays at “Done downloading security update information” (Log gives no obvious information)
Fix: Renamed the software distribution folder/restarted services (Various variations of this fix online, tried a few)
Result: Runs as described in article with new Software distribution folder being created,
    NO CHANGE
Fix: Create/Correct the  reg key for windows trusted installer located here HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Version (several articles relating to this and the above issues)
Result: the existing key was correct as should be from internal system information gathered , required in article.
Fix: Ran the “Windows update trouble-shooter”
    as here :
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=windows-7
Result:  It detected and fixed error’s but still no change.
The WMI Repository checks out on them all for both of the methods I know to verify “Get-wmiobject –list |measure” and ensure count is over 900 and also “C:\>winmgmt /verifyrepository” and the repository came back as “WMI Repository is consistent”. I guess
this is not hard evidence the WMI is OK, but these are the only methods I know.
I have also tried removing the server from its OU , running a GP Update and then rebooting and testing but to no avail (Bit of a longshot but tried to link the distinction between the three servers and the OU GP is one of them)
I have tried a few other articles registering .Dll’s etc , but I did not take a note of links as I was at the start of this and didn’t expect it to go so long so please reply with anything you see not above im happy to try again.
I have thought about removing SP1 and reinstalling it but this will require a major downtime and only possible if the backup files of SP1 have not been removed.
    Any help is apreciated !

    Hi,
Please try to rebuil the WMI repository.
For detailed information, please refer to the blog below,

If issue persists, due to sfc doesn't work, could you try to repair your system with the installation disk?

    Hi,
I scoured the web looking everywhere for a solution to this.
    Exit Code 15
OSX 8.5 with Work@Home DVD media for CS6
I followed instructions to run 3rd party cleaner software
I tried the adobe removal tool
removing all copies of adobe software manually
installing from a new account, safe mode, plist everything suggested that i found did not work.
A colleague suggested that removing the below folder would allow the installation:
    /Library/Application Supports/Adobe
They turned out to be correct, so i am passing this on, because this took far too many hours of my time.
    Cheers,

  • How can I print to my HP OfficeJet 6500 Wireless Printer from my iPhone 4S which used to work before AirPrint printers were even available? (running Mac Lion OS, all software and HP sw updates are all performed)

How can I print to my HP OfficeJet 6500 Wireless Printer from my iPhone 4S which used to work (on prior iPhones) before AirPrint printers were even available? (running Mac Lion OS, all software and HP sw updates are all performed)
I don't get it, I read one post about why would we have to buy an AirPrint Printer when we have used the "print to a wifi printer" just fine in the past?  Yes I feel that's exactly what's happening to me now too. I want to print from my iPhone and iPad to my WiFi Printer which is also now connected to my Airport Express WiFi network just fine. No problems.

Very glad you added that bit of information because I see different problems similar to this.  I want to share with them what you did and hopefully you not only fixed your specific problem but you can lend some more advice to others with problems like this. Thanks!
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.

How can I resolve error code -54 in iTunes? I am using the latest iTunes. No new updates are available. I'm using iTunes 11.3 on a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.6.8. I can't save my library in iTunes, the message just keeps popping up.

From an OS9 reference, error -54 is a software lock on a file or a permissions error. (Although there is no formal list of OSX error code some of the old codes still apply to OSX .)
First, try simply restarting your computer.
Try quitting iTunes, then deleting the .xml (not .itl !) version of the library file in the iTunes folder (iTunes will generate a new one).

That is true - I apologize for not being specific - what I was mainly referring to is iLife applications. I have a notice on the App Store that says 3 apps need updates, I look at the apps and they are huge so since my connection is so slow I use my work connection and d'load the files from support to my Windows machine and carry them home, once d'loaded my MacAir states it cannot install, the update must come from the App Store.
I do the same thing for large Leopard and Lion files and I can install them without error, it is just the App Store files that the system stops.

    Hi,
The error translates to "A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider."
Have you imported the WSUS self signed certificate or the certificates issued by your CA in the Task Sequence so that they are trusted during the OS deployment?

I would like to connect a printer that requires OS 10.6 or newer. My MacBook is currently using OS 10.5.8. In searching for a software update, I am told no updates are needed (and am given no option for updating my OS). How can I upgrade my OS to 10.6 or newer?

You have to understand the difference between an Update and an Upgrade.
An Update is a free change to add to the base code or as a bug fix within an existing Operating System. Such as the .8 added to OSX 10.5 or the .11 added to OSX 10.4..
An Upgrade is a complete new Operating System that must be purchased. Such as 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard.
10.5 Leopard was written for Power PC Macs with code added to force it to run on Intel processors.
10.6 Snow Leopard has completely rewritten code and only runs on Intel Macs.
10.7 Lion ($19.99) used some 32 bit which allows it to run on Late 2006 through Early 2008 MacBooks and a lot of 64 bit code.
10.8 Mountain Lion ($19.99) is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It can only run on the Late 2008 through Mid 2010 MacBooks. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.
10.9 Mavericks is pure 64 bit and is a free download from the App store.
The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard After you’ve installed that then download the 10.6.8 combo updater to finish it off. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks which are downloads only.
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
