Updates Fail after reinstall of OSX 10.6.2

Hi
I really need some help please!!
I have just reinstalled OSX on my iMac i5 to 10.6.2 and no combo update will work. All i keep getting is "install fail"
I have tried downloading combo update for support page and via software update in OSX and get the same problem. I have also tried installing in safe mode and repairing permissions and no luck.
Please HELP!!!

from the disk supplied with my machine.
That is not a "how." That's like responding to the question "How do I build a treehouse?" with the answer "Use a hammer." What, exactly, did you do? We need details! Also, why did you reinstall Mac OS X? Were you having problems, and if so, what kind?
Also every time i download the update and verify it i get "invalid checksum"
There may be some issues with your machine that are interfering... such as a damaged hard drive. We'll be able to say more once we've got better answers to the questions above.

Pairing devices fails after install of osx 10.8.5.. It fails at my Iphone and Ipad touch during the pairing about 5 seconds after I confirm the 6 digit number. Does this make sense?  Whats the fix? I am moderately computer literate. Thanks for considering this.

The following entry may indicate a failing harddrive, so doing backups and replacing the harddrive may be in order.

A little bit about drive S.M.A.R.T. status:
"The most basic information that SMART provides is the SMART status. It provides only two values: "threshold not exceeded" and "threshold exceeded". Often these are represented as "drive OK" or "drive fail" respectively. A "threshold exceeded" value is intended to indicate that there is a relatively high probability that the drive will not be able to honor its specification in the future: that is, the drive is "about to fail". The predicted failure may be catastrophic or may be something as subtle as the inability to write to certain sectors, or perhaps slower performance than the manufacturer's declared minimum."

  • Reconnect Magic Mouse/keyboard after reinstalling Mac OSX

After about a week I finally managed to reinstall Mac OSX Snow Leopard...I took a RAM stick out at random and it worked...good thing there weren't any Genius bar appointments which suited me.
Anyway, now I need to connect a keyboard
I've already got my USB keyboard in it (The same size one as the wireless one...but this one's wired)
I've unplugged it, plugged it back in. I've dug out my wireless keyboard and nothing's happened (Yes, the green light blinks...)
I put my iMac to sleep, I turned it off, it still isn't working...
I could try and find a wired mouse/keyboard somewhere...but I can't believe my wired Apple keyboard isn't working with it ^_^
I'm surprised Apple think this wireless stuff is a good thing...I'm more surprised my wired keyboard won't connect...
It's an iMac 11,2 (I think - Whatever the late 2010 one was) and I'm running Snow Leopard.
Also - When's it safe to put the RAM back in? Or is it actually faulty and I need to get a replacement? How can I check?

Just to clarify, this is what I want/hope to do:
Backup my iMac using Time Machine (Complete)
Format the iMac to factory settings (Complete)
    Reinstall Snow Leopard (Incomplete)
Restore some files and folders (Incomplete)
Maybe upgrade to Lion...if I'm in a good mood.
I'm mainly doing this because my hard drive stopped last week, and the hard drive fan sped up. I had to restart, went into safe mode and...I don't actually know what you're supposed to do in safe mode so I restart normally. The next day, I turned my iMac on and it had that bar below the logo as if it was booting in safe mode, the bar appeared to have stopped, so I turned the iMac off, and upon turning it back on, the bar was back, so I decided to leave it and it started fine. The next day, once again, the bar was there so I left it, but once it got to the desktop, Finder wouldn't load, I tried relaunching Finder a few times, then restarted the computer, if I remember correctly, it restarted and Finder wouldn't load again. I tried again, this time it wouldn't boot at all, I Googled it a bit and tried resetting the PRAM, SMC etc., then found that you can read what's happening when it's booting to safe mode, and many errors came up saying that some numbers were incorrect, after a few minutes, it said "Halting CPU" or something, and that's when it turned off. I then booted from the disc, and restored using the Time Machine backup. I wasn't pleased with the backup; some applications failed to load properly. I thought I might as well restore it and just copy a few files across, to save space and speed up the computer.
The many times I tried reinstalling Snow Leopard, it didn't work. I tried many things, and last night I decided to make a disc image or something to a USB stick. I don't think it was an image, because the tutorial I followed which worked didn't require that you create an image. After trying to install from the USB stick, it failed, I then removed a RAM stick, it finally worked! But my keyboard wouldn't connect...that's when I came to creatin this post, and I tried reinstalling again, it failed to reinstall, I tried removing the other RAM stick, still failed.
Last week wasn't the first time my hard drive suddenly stopped, it's happened a few times before, but the hard drive fan hasn't sped up upon the hard drive stopping, and it's also managed to start again and the computer to continue working a few seconds later. Maybe it is about time I take it to Apple...but my warranty's ran out so I'm not sure if they'll help me.

  • Update failed after switching to nightly channel according to the MDN (Flame)

Good Evening Firefox OS Pro's :)
I just got my new Flame, flashed the base image (http://cds.w5v8t3u9.hwcdn.net/Flame_2.0_v180_1.zip) and the rest (http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/b2g/nightly/latest-mozilla-b2g32_v2_0-flame-kk/) according to the MDN (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Developer_phone_guide/Flame#Updating_your_Flame's_software).
The phone boots and everything is working fine. However after executing the steps under the headline "Switch to nightly update channel" I got an update notification, but the update failed to install with the error message: "there was an error while downloading the updates".
Edit: The error message appeared during the "Uncompressing...". After it failed the notification is there again.
So... I noticed that the update channel was nightly-b2g32 before I changed it with the script to nightly. What is the difference between these two? Is nightly the wrong channel for 2.0?
    Thanks in advance :D

    nightly-b2g32 is 2.1 I think.

  • IPhoto Library won't load after reinstalling Mac OSX

I have reinstalled mac i was having some problems and i am a newbie in mac so i tought a clean install would be good at that point
After reinstalling i had my user folder backed up i moved the files back to their original place, and organized everything because it was messy, and then started a timemachine backup on an external drive
    so in short:
    i reinstalled mac
restored my iPhoto Library to the Pictures folder
Updated everything to the latest version ( since the photo library was created with the latest version )
when i tried to open iphoto it stayed reloading for an hour then i gave up and searched online
my pictures are all there i can copy them and start a new library but that is not what i want
i want my events as i sorted them i want my faces as i sorted them i spent a lot of time making these pictures as they were
    please help
    Things i already tried:
    vacuuming the *.db sqlite files
removing the faces.db so that if the faces are the problem i would know
    tried removing all *.db files
tried to import my photos to a new library but that is not what i want
right now i have 2 libraries, a new one wih ****** event names
and the old one that is corrupt

Using your original library try the following:  make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • ADF partial page updates fails after changing the JSESSIONID name

    Hi All.
I'm using Human Task WorkFlow (11g, wls 10.3.4).
I changed session-descriptor to WORKLISTAPPSESSIONID of woklistapp application and my deployed TaskFlow.
After that ajax partial pages updates fails with java.lang.NullpointerExpcetion in the log.
I think ajax based code does not use session-descriptor element (in the weblogic.xml) to determine the session id cookie name.
And i cant find where and what i have to modify?
    Guys, please, help.

  • ICal crashing after reinstall of OSX Lion

I recently had to reinstall OSX Lion.
As advised by the guys at genius bar i did a full disk erase and clean install of Lion.
Then I went through the painstaking task of reinstalling software and restoring backed up folders for mail, itune & iCal.
Now everytime i start iCal up on my mac it immidiatley crashes, when I select to reopen it it seems to work fine.
Is there anything I may have done or not done to cause this?
I have checked the ical version is the correct lion version.
I have noticed in iCal>Preferences>accounts I now have 2 account one for mobile me and one for iCloud ??
    Thanks
    Andy

I know with my Mac Mini after reinstalling Lion using the Internet Recovery, I logged into the App Store with my Apple ID and under Purchases, my iLife apps (iMovie, GarageBand, iPhoto) were available to reinstall.
Look under Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X Lion in this link.

  • ITunes update failed to reinstall on 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium

Never had problems before with iTunes update. I never had to do anything besides accepting the agreement, followed the prompts, and clicked "Finish" at the end of the installation. But the update that came 3 days ago failed to install, with a message to get the 64-bit version of iTunes even though iTunes have always installed to the same 64-bit OS computer. After countless hours of uninstalling and reinstalling, and registry clean up, I'm now coming up at 2 consecutive reinstallations with this error message:
    Could not open key:
UNKNOWN\Components\32A7D634EB632D11CABB00087CCFBB48\C09E34DBD62CDBC6EB11CA. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
I have read other postings with identical error message but no answers either here or on the Apple's forum site. I will appreciate any help, workaround or whatever.
    Thanks.

I also face the same problem installing it on my Window 7 Professional. Have you found an answer to this? Thanks.

  • Itunes wont work after reinstall of osx 10.4.8 tiger

After doing a reinstall of the os I can no longer open itunes.
It says that the application is not available with this version of osx.
I've tried to download the latest version and version 6, but neither are compatible.
And cannot, for some reason, download version 7.7.1
Nothing I try seems to work.

You need to update from 10.4.8 to 10.4.11 (which is probably what you were running before the reinstall) and then you can run iTunes 8. Post back if you don't where to find the updates.
    Poked around...think I found it: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eppc.html

  • Dv6-2170eo windows update fails after recovery

I have a HP dv6-2170eo netbook with Windows 7 Home premium (64-bit). My origin hard drive (640GB) failed and I replaced it with 1TB hard drive. I used the recovery DVD's that I made when I bought the laptop and then reloaded Windows 7 on the new hard drive.
After reloading ,  Windows Update does not work.
This is the error I get:
Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.
I can't even install Windows Defender or Microsoft Security Essential
    Intel Chipset driver from 2009-06-04
    My internet access is OK.
I have restarted my netbook and the error is the same.
I have reloaded Windows 7 and the error is the same
    Please help me
    Haggann

I had the same problem with an HP G72. If you have an Intel Chipset, goto Intels website and download there "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver" and install it. I had the exact same problems and this fixed them. For some unknown reason this driver is not available on HP's website. I just Googled the driver and it took me straight to Intels website where I downloaded it. Get the driver that you can run from within windows and not the one that runs from a floppy.
    Good Luck,

Any hint on what is happening here? Fortunately I am using lts as backup kernel though others may not be that lucky if they encounter the same issue(s).

@root: Sorry for kind of hijacking your thread, but it seems like our issues are related. It is the same libgcrypt version, but I'm getting a similar error by just upgrading linux-lts, systemd, and libgcrypt at the same time. Oh, and you should know better than use ancient versions of X11 in Arch ;-)
@scimmia: here is the full pacman.log snippet, including the original "pacman -Syu" and the followup "pacman -S linux-lts". It is the linux-lts mkinitcpio [systemd] hook that complains about unsatisfied dependencies, nothing "calls" systemctl:

  • Unable to update CS3 after reinstalling

I own CS3 design premium running on OSX 10.6.8 (not lion)
I uninstalled CS3 using the uninstaller.
Reinstalled CS3 fresh from the disks
Adobe Updater doesn't find any updates.
Looked around online checked my versions through the software.
    Indesign 5.0
    Illustrator 13.0
    Photoshop 10.0
and yet I get this message:
    Uninstalled again using uninstaller
    Rebooted
    Ran Creative Suite Cleaner Tool
deleted folder library -> application support -> adobe
    Rebooted
    Installed CS3 fresh from disk
    Rebooted
    Launched Photoshop
    entered serial number
    Ran updater
    Same message as above
I did not disable my registration either time I uninstalled.
I have downloaded the raw update files and they don't work either. I just get the following message.
Any ideas how I can get my software updated?

    Randy,
Yes it has happened with other people, but not very case the behavior due to the same set of issues. CS 3 was designed way before Snow Leopard, but generally we can get it to work.
If you are game, try installing a utiltily called Applejack a great utility to have. Beware it runs on the unix shell before the Mac fully boots.
    http://applejack.sourceforge.net/
Have it clear all your caches, fix your permissions, and verify and fix any directory isssues.
(You can use Onyx instead it will run under standard OS X, but it cannot repair any disk directory corruption).
I wonder if your system is acting flakey due to some underlying directory problems.

  • Windows update fails after reverting to factory image

you need to save it as a .reg file instead of a .txt file, so the icon changes here is a handy link on how to achieve this: http://www.mediacollege.com/microsoft/windows/extension-change.html

I recently reverted my computer back to the factory image which is Windows 8. I previosly had upgraded to Windows 8.1 and was trying to upgrade again to Windows 10 and that kept failing so I reverted back to factroy image to get a fresh start. Now when I try to get back to Windows 8.1 so that I can then upgrade to Windows 10, the Windows update keeps failing and I am stuck in Windows 8. The Windows Store says I can update to Windows 8.1 but that I have to run all the updates for Windows 8 first. After loaing the factory image, I run Windows Update and the Windows Update program does install a new Windows Update Program. After that, I run Windows Update and it finds 165 updates. When I download and install those, they fail and the system reverts back to Windows 8. Will 165 updates, is there a certal order I should install them? Is there another way to get back to Windows 8.1?
