Updates for apps not working

ive got an iPhone 4s. Tons of apps installed
Yesterday I had an update for an app. A red 1 appearing on the App Store icon. Went to update the app and instead it opened the app instead of updating it !
Now I've got 3 updates. I go to update the app and same thing. Friends on a forum I post on are having the same issue
How come I can't update my apps ??  Never had this before.

I got an iPhone 4s and I'm experiencing the same problems.  I used facebook messenger, and used to get the push notifications to that app, but now that i've deleted it I no longer get the messages directly to the facebook app.
I have push on in the mail settings and notification center for facebook are on as well.  I also have push notifications on in the settings for facebook.
I've tried deleting the app and reinstalling, no fix.  I haven't tried a hard reset yet.
So far, I figured out that it's not iOS or the facebook app, somehow it is a problem with my account.  I logged into my wife's account on my iphone and her account is able to recieve push notifications to my iphone.
Any thoughts?

    I wanted to add something here that may or may not be accurate, since I was suffering the exact same issues (on an iPhone 6+, and replicated on an iPhone 5 patched to 8.0) you were describing Nick. In an effort to trouble shoot this I picked up one of the third party tools that allows you onto the iOS device file system. I've been trying since Friday night to reproduce the conditions that cause the issue but haven't quite narrowed it down. Including this here in case the Engineers are poking around in the discussion boards and are trying to reproduce this.
    This is an iPhone 6+ running 8.0 (12A366) connecting physically to iTunes 11.4 on a MBP running 10.9.5 (13F34; fully patched).
    Here's what I did last night and this seems to have worked (meaning, I can sync music now without issue at least for syncs this morning; will confirm tonight by syncing again):
    Turned off iTunes Match on the iTunes library I am syncing from
    Unchecked all non-AAC music files (Apple lossless and MPEG audio both; these were just flat out refusing to copy over, claiming to have copied but coming up with the exclamation point when accessed on the device via iTunes; none of these lossless or mp3 files have been an issue in any previous version of iOS, meaning they are all of the correct sample and bitrate to be used and can sync to other devices in the household running iOS 7)
    Removed all music from the iOS device (by deselecting music syncing)
    Hard rebooted the iOS device after disconnecting it; rebooted the iTunes library host
    Reconnected the iOS device and fired up the third party app (this is the part I do not recommend, but I was eager to try to figure out what the root cause was)
    Removed the iTunes library files on iOS (this is something I had done between other factory resets earlier to force the iOS device to rebuild the library; to rule out library corruption)
    Removed any "music" folders remaining on the iOS device (this is also something I had done a few times which had had no effect)
    Removed any saved artwork (this was something I had not done before, but I too had noticed a strange correlation between it stopping working and the artwork being synced)
    Disconnected and rebooted the iOS device again (forcing a recreation of the iTunes library database files)
    Reconnected the device and started syncing small playlists (50-100 songs). In increments it all seems to be syncing up now without issue
    The two new steps this time around that seem, at least at initial glance, to have solved the problem are stopping syncing any non-AAC music media files and the deletion of the existing artwork folders on the iOS device. Syncing appears to be working, even after disconnecting and reconnecting the device.

    i have about 30 apps showing that an update is needed for them. Problem is, about 10 of those updates are for apps not on my iPad anymore. I deleted them days/weeks/months ago. any ideas?

    I've seen other discussions about this and from what I can remember .... Try deleting the Apps in your iTunes library on your computer to remove all traces of the apps - sync your iPad - and then see if the updates go away for the deleted apps.

    Go into Settings > General > International > Language and choose British English, then hit the Done button. The screen will go black with a comment about Language Settings. Be Patient, especially if you have a lot of apps. Let it run it's course and Then open the App Store again. Voila! Upgrade list is back. And it stuck when i changed back to plain English. He doesn't know why. I don't either. But I am now a happy camper. Worked on my 3rd gen iPad and iPad Mini.

    I Have notifications that updates are available for apps on my IPad but when I open the apps update and click on update it opens the app and doesn't update the app. Previously when I did this, once I clicked on update it updates the apps automatically. Any suggestions?

    I have found that a Rebbot has helped some people To Reboo press & hold power button & menu button hold both down until you see Apple Logo you will not lose any data But you may need to do this more than once If this fails connect to iTunes on PCs make pc is running the latest iTunes software.     I have 16GB WiFi iPad and I can't access Genius for Apps section in the AppStore. I turned it on, synced with Mac, no changes. I turned it off, then again on and synced. Still nothing.
    Is the genius section anywhere different from where it is on iPod/iPhone, or there is something wrong with my iPad?

    Yes, you are no the only one, it seems to be a problem with the iTunes server… I'm in touch with Apple, we try solve the problem.

    The above comment has been true for stand alone installation of major releases.  But when it comes to patch release, each product is on its own.  Generally speaking, PPro and AME products release patches on the same day.  There have been a few cases where PPro had a patch (like 7.2.1) and there was no AME corresponding patch.

    What versions of PPro and AME do you currently have on your system?
    What version does PatchInstaller wants to install on your system?
    The latest released versions of PPro and AME patches are 7.2.2.

    Just got a notice that there's an update available for PS CS6 through the cloud. It churns and rumbles for several seconds and then tells me there's an error. See... for details. The details don't tell me anything I understand. (U44M1P7) Then clicking 'see details' takes me to a folder of log files that are all Greek to me.

    I had the older version of this and did the update and it hasn't updated it and i don't know wat to do. And when i go onto icloud when i try to download a file off there it says i need the new version but i dont habve any downloads to do on the app store

    I think I may have solved my own problem here. The music file was corrupt, I think, because when I eliminated it and/or added the music via a hidden iMovie file, the builds worked fine and the music continued to play from slide to slide.
    Something must have happened during the iOS update yesterday.
    Still have to test this on my Mac and then in iBooks Author so stay tuned - if it interests you. :).

    what happneed was i update my iphone 4 to ios 5 beta and downloaded the newest and latest itunes. It says i have itunes 10.3 installeed but wont recognized my iphone. I get a popup saying that my iphone cannot is not supported because i need to have the latest ithunes. I have updated twice and getting pretty frustrated.

    You need to be in the developer program.
    If you are in the developer program make sure your UDID is registered.
    Make sure you have the right firmware for your iPhone 4 (AT&T or Verizon).
    To update to the iOS 5 beta you need to be running iTunes 10.5 beta or higher. Not 10.3. 10.3 only supports iCloud features currently availible to the general public

  • Software update for iPhoto not working

    Hi Software update tells me that iPhoto and GarageBand have updates available. The version number on my OS Mountain Lion are older than what is shown in update. But when I try to do an update it tells me that the software is already installed and to go to the apple menu to update software. But that only brings me back to the app store update window, right back where I started.
    How do I get these apps updated?

    Download them from Apple page if you purchased it in a disc > http://www.apple.com/support
    If you purchased it in App Store, delete them, open App Store > Purchases and download them

  • Apps not working over 3G for iphone 5 (iOS 7)

    I have i5 & recently updated to iOS7. Very frequently, my apps don't work over the 3G network, however, they do so over Wi-fi. Fb, emails, whatsapp and many more apps dont work over 3G. Safari works. Have tried resetting network settings and hard reset, but no solution. The trend for apps not working is very random, sometimes they do work, sometimes they don't. Its very irritating. Anybody with a solution.

    you can choose which apps can use cellular data
    may be you can recycle the switch for the suspect apps

    Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
    First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
    Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
    When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!

    Had the same problem as you. App would terminate when launched.
    Solution to working You Tube app:
    -Go to playstore
    - Uninstall app (it doesn't remove the app, only removes the update)
    - "Et Voila", working again.
    This doesn't correct the problem, it's just a workaround for you to be able to use youtube app again.
