Updates to Acrobat 8 Professional Cause Preferences to Reset

For some time now, any time the software is updated all Preferences settings return to their default settings.
Anybody know why this is happening?

Update what? There is only one Acrobat and the current version is XI. You have to pay for it.

  • Updates to acrobat distiller remove password preferences

I use password protection on PDFs that I generate. Everytime a new update is done to acrobat distiller, my security password is removed (the field is now blank) but I have no indication that this has occured. Therefore, when I generate PDFs, thinking that I know the password used for password protection, I cannot modify the PDF that I generated because distiller doesn't have a password even though the option is still selected.
Why is my password being dropped? I just created 15 PDF documents and I can't edit any of them. I have to recreate all of them, which is a huge waste of time.

  • Acrobat 8 professional causing recovered tmp files in trash

I have recently done a clean install of CS3 including Acrobat Pro. I'm getting an occasional bouncing of the Acrobat program icon in the application doc. It acts as if it wants attention, but when you click on it its just open and has no warnings. This is really annoying having to baby sit the app by clicking on the app icon.
Anyway, I'm also getting strange system performance issues. I'll restart and there will be recovered files in the trash. They are all acr1234567.tmp files. They look like Acrobat temp files.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Mac/IntelDuo2.4/2GB/10.5.5
    Much appreciated!
    Evan

Upgrade to 8.1.1 the 8.1.2 should stop the bounce.

  • Disable Auto Update in Acrobat Professional 9 for OS X

We have a series of installations in a lab/classroom environment where we would like to disable the autoupdate feature of Acrobat Professional 9. Currently when a new user logs in the autoupdater wil launch telling the user that there's a new update available. That's great and all except that a) most users are not admins and couldn't do the update any way, b) we use Sassafras Keyserver and updating the App with IT will cause the keyserver functionality to stop which would then make us fall out of compliance with licensing, c) IT likes to make sure that ALL users are on the same version which means that we need to control when and how updates are installed.
Is there any way to do this and then have the settings propagate to all users?

    Hi,
There's no machine level setting to disable ARM for all users in MAC.
However, you could set the update mode to manual using Edit->Preferences->Do not automatically download or install updates. This has to be done by each user since the setting is user specific.
    Hope this helps.
Also, I have a small query. When Acrobat\Reader  installed as an admin is launched for a non-admin user, it requires admin credentials on first launch. Since most of your users are non-admin, how are they able to launch Acrobat\reader wihtout providing admin passwords?

  • Adobe Acrobat V9 Professional crashes or causes PDFs to be corrupted when using Dragon software

Adobe Acrobat V9 Professional crashes or causes PDFs to be corrupted when using Dragon software. I use Nuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11.5 to assist me when I add comments to a PDF. I also use it when making additions or changes to text.  When I use the two software programs together, Acrobat constantly crashes.  If it doesn't crash, an error occurs trying to save the file.  I entered 988 comments into a 158-pg PDF, only to find the file was corrupted and couldn't be printed. I also could not see the list of comments (click Show Comments).
These problems do not occur if I don't use both products simultaneously.

Never overwrite a clip that is used in Pr.  Give the
modified/corrected/updated clip a new name and import that into your Pr
project.  Then Alt+Drag the new clip on top of the old clip in the
timeline to replace the clip instance.
If import-then-drag isn't your style, then right-clicking the original
clip in the Project panel and selecting Replace Footage will accomplish
    the same thing.
This important rule applies in Encore as well.

  • Acrobat 7 Professional Update to 7.0.9

I have tried updating my Acrobat Professional to version 7.0.9 without success. The update patch runs but does not update all the files.
For example, acrobat.exe and acrobat.dll remain at version 7.0.8.218 and do not update to version 7.0.9.
One file that has updated is AcroIEFavClient.dll which shows version 7.0.9.50. In addition, the about screen in acrobat says version 7.0.9.
Any ideas of what I should do to get the update to install properly.]
    Thanks

I believe the about screen is incorrect. It probably draws the version number from the registry. When I say it does not update all the files, I mean that almost none of the files are updated. The acrobat.exe file remains at version 7.0.8.218 and file date of May 16, 2006. There are two files with a file date of April 23, 2008 (acrobat.dll and cooltype.dll), one file with a file date of April 15, 2008 (Acrobat_sl.exe) and two files with a file date of December 18, 2006 (AGM.dll and AcroIEFavClient.dll). These are the only files newer than acrobat.exe in the root directory of the program (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat).
Are these the same as everyone else has who has updated to version 7.1.0?
I also only update directly with the downloads from Adobe.com and not using the update option in Acrobat.

  • Acrobat 7 Professional Output Preview Preferences

I think the new "Output Preview" tool in Acrobat 7 Professional is GREAT! Especially the ability to check "Total Ink Coverage".
But, what I would like to see is the ability to set a preference for this tool. Seems it always defaults to 280. In our shop we are perfectly able to handle 320, so it would be nice to set it up to that instead.
The tool seems a wee bit buggy when switching totals sometimes.
And could Adobe also add this "Total Ink Feature" to inDesign CS as well.

Agreed again. I work for a newsprint publisher, and it's a pain to have to reset 280 to 240 over and over again for each page or file opened. Either a way to remember last setting or reset the default would be much appreciated.

  • How to update a version 6.0 of Acrobat Reader Professional when upgrading windows XP to 8.1 ?

How to update a version 6.0 of Acrobat Reader Professional when upgrading windows XP to 8.1 ?

There is no product called Acrobat Reader Professional. There are two possibilities with different answers.
    1. You have Acrobat Professional (no "Reader"). You will have to buy the latest, Acrobat 11 (XI) Pro. No upgrade pricing is available for version 8.
    2. You have Adobe Reader (no "Professional"). You can download the latest free Adobe Reader http://get.adobe.com/reader

  • Acrobat 9 Professional forms missing data after upgrade to Adobe Reader 10

My principal has a macbook pro with OS 10.6 on it, and Acrobat 9 Professional. One of the Xerox technicians in our district came around and updated Adobe Reader on her computer to AR 10. This caused her computer to lose the license key for Acrobat 9 Professional. Now all the of the data that she had saved in forms done in Acrobat 9 Pro has been lost. When she opens these files, the forms are blank. Is there any help for recovering the data that was lost from these files?

As long as the tech did not remove Acrobat, it should still be there. I am not that familiar with MACS, but that is the case for Windows. I would suggest that the tech be requested to rectify the issue. It may be that she just needs to open Acrobat and then the file. It may be that a MAC has a file association like the PC, and in that case she needs to set the file association back to Acrobat.
If she maintains both AA9 and ARX on the machine, she should also update them. It may be an update issue that is causing the data to not be seen. Some versions have had problems with seeing the data unless the cursor is in the field of interest. So is the data really still there or not?
Hope my limited thoughts about the MAC is of help. I am sure that some MAC folks will be by to give help.

  • Blurry printing after 10.1.7 update on Acrobat X Pro

After the latest update (10.1.7)  to my copy of Acrobat X Professional in around May 15th, all my PDFs print out - BLURRY like Acrobat has double vision or bad hangover. All printing from all other programs on my computer continues to have excellent quality.
This have never happened before and it's VERY frustrating! This problem happens when using both my desktop (Win7) and laptop (Win8).
I use a HP CP2025dn and tried all kinds of preference adjustments and updated drivers but am concluding that there must be a bug with this update.
Is there a fix in the works or if not: How can I roll back my  Acrobat X Pro to 10.1.6 so I can continue printing my work with a professional output that my clients are accustomed to seeing?
    Thank you!

In my original post, I said Acrobat would run on my Dell desktop but not the Samsung laptop. The next day, I found it wouldn't start on the Dell, either. When trying to convert a web page, buried at the bottom of the windows I found the message from Acrobat that it was not activated (why isn't this message on TOP ???).
I guess the initial problem -- running on one computer but not the other -- was a red herring.
I looked more closely at the posts about the program not launching after 30 days and checked Control Panel. I installed the program on April 15. The problems started on May 16 !! So I guess this is just the known problem with activation when installed as part of CS6. Still a mystery why I got an extra day of use on the Dell compared with the Samsung.
I intended to update my thread yesterday. I could see my message but there didn't seem to be a way to update or 'respond' to it.
I have applied the AcroFix.exe patch, but not yet updated to version 10.1.7.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional w/ Windows 8.1

Previously I had Windows Vista Home Basic and everything ran smoothly with Acrobat.  One thing that I loved was if I ran out of ink or could not print for some other reason, I had Adobe in the list of printers.  Well Adobe is not showing up in the list of printers nor can I get it to show up there by trying several different things.  My Adobe product is Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional and my Windows system is now Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit (though I’m starting to regret this).    I’m seeing that 64 Bit is the problem but really? Is there no fix for this other than spending hundreds of dollars yet again?  I’m beginning to think the computer and software is only for the very-very rich!  Who can afford this stuff with its updates every year!  They really know how to make a buck but what about the people who cannot afford to keep paying for these things?  I know I could switch back but I did a clean install and in order to switch back, I’d have to find the Vista cd again (which I tried) or end up buying that again!  Ugghh  All I want is for the Adobe Acrobat to be available as a printer, the program itself works, just not what I guess Adobe is labeling as the “extras.”  I have tried the below…but none of anything I have tried for the last three days has worked – not even talking to Adobe because they gave me the links to this forum and the online support – because their chat is for the rich who can purchase XI at 400-900 dollars!  Please if anyone knows a solution to this that might help me?

    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5616214#5616214
Did the “Customization Wizard” but the other file (Transformer Tool) would not load install – received message “Acrobat Transforms Update did not find any valid installed Acrobat products or you do not have sufficient privileges to update registry.”  Grrrrr
Installed PDFFilter64Setup.msi  --- seemed to accept it but I’m not sure it changed a thing!

Keep in mind that AA8 is just about prior 64-bit and has not been updated to maintain currency with the newer OS and platforms. As a minimum, you need to do the updates to AA8. The updates are important for 64-bit systems. You may or may not get it to work. If it looks like it, please report what parts work and what parts fail. The links try to address the issues, but we need to know what works after you do the updates. Does Acrobat open (your note suggests it does) and appear to work? Does Distiller open and is it able to convert a PS file to a PDF (it can only operate on EPS and PS files)? Is there an Adobe PDF printer present? Can you print to the printer with print-to-file selected? Is AcroTray running in the background.
With a new system, new software is commonly required. In fact, Win 8.1 may have problems with old hardware like VISTA came on. I still run a Dell system with XP on it. Most things run fine (though I have to get rid of malware and such periodically). So you don't really have to update with every change, but you may be on your own with some things -- or depend on forums like this to try to help.

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 professional Mac will not upgrade from 8.1.5 to 11.0.9

    Hi:
I have Adobe Acrobat 8 professional for Mac version 8.1.5 trying to upgrade to 11.0.9 but when I download the update it fails to grab the application. Although its visible, to advise to install the update it will not allow me to click on update. I am using a MacMini running on
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

From AA 8, you have to purchase the full AA XI. There is no upgrade for products before AA 9. You should not have been able to purchase XI from Adobe as an upgrade with only 8 as the prior product.

  • I followed an update prompt and tried to update my Acrobat 9 pro this am, and my license vanished

I was prompted to update my Acrobat pro 9 (MAC) this morning and my license ceased working.  I dowloaded license repair but cannot proceed since I do not use a password on my computer.  I followed the instructions (deleting certain files) to no avail.  The copy on my backup drive does not work.  I teach a 6-month online course beginning in a few weeks and most of my materials are sent as PDF often with security settings. I really don't want fixing this to take a lot of time.  Dan Hemenway

    Hi Dan,
Update to Acrobat 9 is unlikly to cause the issue.
Have you tried repairing Acrobat and check?
What is the exact error message you get while launching Acrobat now?

In preferences I fount a font smoothing option and this works excellent.
Not sure why it defaulted back to no smooting.
