Updates to Kuler website

Kuler community,
We’ve made some exciting updates to the site today.
We’ve added a few new features and re-architected the site.
The first difference you probably noticed is our new website
loader. We slightly extended the initial load time so that we can
provide you with a faster experience on the site overall.
Here are highlights of some of the new updates to the
site…
New features:
- Share a Kuler URL: You can now easily copy and paste a URL
to a given theme right from your browser address bar. And even
kooler, you can share all of the themes you have created by
clicking on your avatar and copying the associated URL.
- Save-As: You can now save a copy of your own theme without
overriding the original. Just give it a new name and hit save.
- Better theme protection: Editing another person’s
theme now requires tangible changes (i.e. edit at least 3 colors)
before you can save it publicly. (Saving as private is always
permitted.)
Improvements:
- We’ve tweaked the ratings to now provide a more
accurate reflection of the vote average, while still taking the
number of votes into account. Some themes may have moved up or down
in the Highest rated list based on these changes.
- Increased performance in major areas of the website
As we rolled the updates out, there were some hiccups and the
site was down for some time today. Thank you for your patience.

Sorry guys, but Kuler is not only behaving strangely, it's
also buggy.
Bugs I found:
1. Clicking "Sign in", it had pre-populated the username
field with my email address...which obviously didn't work when I
hit "Go". (And the second time I went to log in with my usual
username/password, it failed. Hmm)
2. The list of "highest rated" is now populated with every
top-rated color theme since the dawn of man (instead of from just
the last month). I'm not sure whose idea this was, but in my
opinion it has now lost its purpose. The point is to highlight
top-rated RECENT themes that deserve attention, no? (Otherwise make
a separate tab for top-rated themes from past months/archived.)
3. The typeface in use in the theme keywords and comment
fields is now more difficult to read, and the comments are being
improperly squeezed to 2/3 the width of the comment field space.
Also, the sentence height looks squashed in both.
4. Lastly, I had to create a ridiculous Kuler Forum Nickname
here (temporarily) because it wouldn't let me post using my normal
username--saying that it had "already been taken". Well, duh--it's
ME, and I'm logged in so it should know! (Interestingly, even
gibberish names were being rejected--I think there's a bug
somewhere in there.)
Glad to see that the tabbing between fields in the "Create
new theme" section was fixed.
Kuler is (was?) a great tool, but I'm seeing some loss of
focus here.

Kuler website and Kuler extension inside application

I saved some swatches using the Kuler website in Mykuler account. I saved them as swatch exchange files to import into Fireworks CS4. At the time I didn't realize Fireworks CS4 did read swatch exchange files. Now I have learned that Firworks CS4 has a built in Kuler extension under Window in the pull down menu.
So, I'm all set up with a Kuler panel inside Fireworks CS4. The problem now is, I don't see a way to access my Mykuler account so I can use the swatches I saved already using the website. Do I need to recreate my swatches in the Kuler panel now? I see you can save swatches in the panel and upload them to Kuler. Can I not access my account from the panel?

Hi,
You can save your themes as public with some specific tag on kuler website.
Inside fireworks, just search for theme names or tags or your username. You should be able to see them and use as per your requirements.
Just to save time, you can also save theme name/tag/username as custom tag. It'll be displayed in your theme feed list just below 'saved'

Your plugins list in "more system details" shows Next Generation Java Plug-in 1.6.0_31 for Mozilla browsers so Java should not be blocked.
Could you post a link to a webpage where Java isn't working for you? YouTube uses Flash, not Java. Here is a list of Java test pages you can try, to confirm that Java is working, from http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Testing_Java

By the way, I see in your plugins list that you also have the VLC media player Web Plugin 2.0.0 so, it's possible that the VLC plugin is causing a conflict if YouTube or other videos don't work. See [[Video or audio does not play]] (you may need to disable the VLC Media Player plugin in the Add-ons -> Plugins list for some media to play).

I am unable to update my vistaprint website from firefox 3.6 or 3.5. A friends of mine says she has no problem with her vistaprint website and she uses firefox 5.0. I don't see a firefox 5.0 anywhere.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

How do I sync themes I create in the app with the the Kuler website and other Adobe apps?

To sync color themes created on your iphone, you need to sign in to the app. You can do this by clicking the settings icon (in the top right corner). Then click "Sign in". You themes will now start syncing with the Kuler website and will also be accessible in other apps like Adobe Ideas and Illustrator CC.

Yes, makes some sense, but the main doubt is: Adobe Ideas don't reconizes .ase files...the only way in which I could make it work was saving the theme created as an image file (jpeg in instance) and email me this file, opening in Ideas and "catching" the colors as I would do with any other image. There's a way somebody could import this themes into Ideas?
The Kuler page says this:
"The color themes you create with the Kuler app can be synced to the Kuler website, an online community for color enthusiasts, for use with other Adobe applications such as Illustrator and Adobe Ideas."
How one can do this? Theres no option in kuler like "Open in" when you save a theme, and Ideas don't recognizes the .ase files generated, so this is the main doubt:
How one can import or sync, whatever, a theme generated in Kuler (the app or the site) into Ideas?

I just updated my personal website but I can't see the changes, other people can tho.

My web designer just updated my personal website: resume and photo's. I cannot see the updates tho, the same old site keeps coming up.
He can see it fine and sent me a screenshot even.
I am on a MAC.

Reload the webpage fresh from the web hosting server, bypassing the cache using '''one''' of the following steps:
*Hold down the ''Shift'' key and click the ''Reload'' button with a left click.
OR
*Press ''Ctrl'' + ''F5'' or ''Ctrl'' + ''Shift'' + ''R'' (Windows and Linux)
*Press ''Command'' + ''Shift'' + ''R'' (Mac)

There may be an issue with the Firefox plugin checker.<br>
Please do the following:
#Close Firefox
#Open the application data folder and locate the Firefox data
#Locate and open your profile from the folder
#Rename the <code>pluginreg.data</code> file
#Open Firefox
Does this fix the issue?
If not, you can restore the old <code>pluginreg.dat</code> file by deleting the newly created file and renaming the old file back to <code>pluginreg.dat</code>

Launch Kuler website

The "Launch Kuler website" button is greyed out in Illustrator CC. How can I get this to work?

I lost all my color themes in the update from Kuler to Color CC.

When I went to use the Kuler app on my phone, I saw it is now Color CC. All of the color themes are gone! How can I retrieve them? I've logged into my Adobe acct and they are not there. Please help!

Please take a look at these steps below. Let me know if this guidance does not help.
If you have signed in to your Color (aka Kuler) app before, your themes are safe. Most likely, your themes are all synced to the Color service. Here’s how to find them:
Website: navigate to color.adobe.com and sign in. Click on the "My Themes" tab. Your colors should be showing up there. Note, at this moment in time, you cannot save themes from the color.adobe.com website directly to a library. This only works with the iOS application.
iPhone/iPad: if you aren’t seeing your themes, but you are signed in, the problem is most likely solved by switching the library you are using. You can do this by tapping the menu bar at the top of the theme gallery. From here, you will see a menu that allows you to select to either save themes to color.dobe.com or to a CC library. Your old themes are stored in the color.adobe.com option.
Desktop software: (I.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, inDesign) you can always find your colors on the Color Themes panel. This is located in Windows/Extensions/Color Themes for PS and ID. And, Windows/Color Themes for Ai. If you are looking for a color that you saved to a library from the mobile app, you can find this in Window/Library. Note, you must have the most current versions of PS, AI, and ID for this to work.
If you have never signed in to the app before, you themes are not saved. The only option you will have, at this point, is to restore your phone from a back-up via iTunes. Note, we’re working to release a new update that will allow users to carry themes forward to the updated version. And, I’m really sorry about any problems this may have caused. Firefox prompted me to download an incompatible update that its website claims is compatible with my operating system (Mac OS 10.4.11). Why prompt an incompatible download AND claim it is compatible?

I have an iMac and use OS 10.4.11 & Firefox 3.6.19. Firefox prompted me to download an update (to 7.0.1). I looked up the system requirements on your website, and it stated the update is compatible with OS 10.4.11. But after I downloaded and installed the update, it failed to work on grounds of incompatibility. Hence 2 questions: (1) Why did Firefox prompt me to download an incompatible update? (2) Why did your website claim the update is compatible with my operating system when it is not?

Sorry, it's because Firefox 4+ are only compiled for the Intel processors.
There is a separate project for PPC Macs called Ten Four Fox. You might give it a spin when you're tired of 3.6.

Flash update error on website

Hi,
I'm pretty new to using Dreamweaver and have started to make my first website. I have been following tutorials on how to insert flash files but I am having a constant problem.
When you go on my website (www.mattarnoldphotography.co.uk) it says you need to update to the latest flash software (which I know my PC has definitely got) and when you click on the update button, it just says its failed.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm looking at your site on my iPad and I cannot see your images since iPads and iPhones don't do Flash and never will.

Will not update my new website.

I recently changed computers and I have no access to my old one. I rebuilt my website and when I published it, and it prompted me to visit, it took me to my web but did nothing to my site online, it is still the old one. When I press visit on my own, without the prompting, it takes me to a page that tells me it can't find the page I am looking for. I have been over the information, everything looks correct. Help?

Don't click on the visit button. Just close iWeb and then ensure that you have emptied your browser cache and put in the url of your site and if you go to it like this using the url it should have updated.

How to make small updates to a website

Hi all,
Let's say you make a website and then realize that you want to add or adjust just one of the photos in it. LR will need to remake the entire site from
scratch (slow if you have a lot of photos in it). PS on the other hand has always been very clever about just adding or updating the site to include the new or changed photo. Is there a trick to get LR to be this clever?

Yes, you can use LR to upload directly to the website, but neither PS nor LR
are website management applications, so you will probably want to add such
an application to your workflow. I use Dreamweaver, but others will work.
It is common practice to have a copy of your entire website on your local
machine. Using that model, you could use LR to create the web collection
and copy to the folder in the local machine (just set the destination folder
to the local copy of the web site). Then use your web application to a)
link the new collection to the rest of the website, and b) sync the local
copy with the online website, which will upload all new files. If you later
decide to modify a single photo, then sync again using the web management
application. Of course, that's just one possible solution, but any good
solution will likely include a web management application.
