Updates to Original iphone

I have noticed in the last few months, that when I go to update my original iphone it says that it is all ready updated. I use to get updates all the time. Has Apple stopped updating the original iphone? I know that it's pretty much impossible to get accessories for the original; people at the store have said that Apple is no longer producing for the original.

I've got a 2G 8GB Iphone that i'm looking to sell to upgrade to the 3G. First time I've used these forums so I'm way behind. I think i have an idea on what to do before i sell as far as clearing out the data. But I'll most likely sell on Ebay and I see a whole bunch of phones that are jailbroken. I'm still on software version 1.1.4 because I heard the older versions were selling quite well on Ebay. Is this true? Why?

  • Tried to update deactivated original iPhone

I have been useing my original deactivated iPhone as an iTouch. I tried to put 3.0 on it and now it is stuck in "emergency call" mode with the usb cable pic. anyway to get it working again as an iTouch??

You need to insert the no longer activated SIM card - the SIM card that was used with the iPhone when it was activated in order to install a firmware update or restore the iPhone with iTunes if wanted or needed, or to complete the process.

  • Bluetooth not working on original iphone after 2.1 update

Just updated my original iphone to 2.1 and all my pairings for bluetooth are gone. Also when I attempt to re-pair the bluetooth section just displays a spinning circle and refuses to recognize any of my bluetooth devices.

    Hi jopiii,
Try Resetting Network Settings on the iPhone, go to Settings> General> Reset> Reset Network Settings.
Then make the bluetooth headset discoverable and pair it to the iPhone as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1664

  • Upgrading original iPhone software to 2.2 update?

Can I update my original iPhone with the new 2.2 software update? Everytime I plug my iPhone into iTunes and check to see whether there are any new updates for my phone it comes back with version 1.1.4 is the current version. I am running Mac OS x 10.4.11 on an Intel iMac running iTunes 7.6.1.

you need to update your itunes for sure. We are now at 8.0.2.20.
    Update that then check.

  • Trouble updating original iPhone

I have the first iPhone and I am having a lot of difficulty trying to update it. It currently is version 2.2.1 and iTunes tells me that I can update my phone to version 3.1.3, but whenever I try to do so, it doesn't let me. The first time I ever tried updating my iPhone it went through the whole process, but at the very end, after two hours, a message popped up saying that the update failed. Today I tried again, but when I clicked 'update' it only said that iTunes was already updated and nothing about my iPhone. After several more tries iTunes froze numerous times and did not recognize my iPhone when I plugged it in.
Is this because you can no longer update the original iPhone? Or is it something else?
I read about backing up and restoring the iPhone, and I was able to successfully back it up a few hours ago, but I am a bit hesitant on going through the restoring process because iTunes is acting up right now.
Any sort of help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

Sorry to hear your having problems, and I'm not sure what the cause might be. The information I have is that 3.1.3 is the latest version of the iOS that you can run on your iPhone.
The only thing I can think if is if there is not enough free space on your iPhone, that could be causing issues with the installer.

  • How to activate original iPhone (OS 3.1.3)

I have a original iPhone (software - 3.1.3) that has a sim card in it (not the original one) and I would like to activate it without signing up for a 2 year contract with ATT. basically use it as an itouch. I have called ATT and they absolutely refuse to activate it without contract and apple reps tell me that there is nothing they can do since I don't have the original sim in it...:(
is there any hope to get this done?
what would happen if you used a sim from a newer iPhone that currently has service and switched that service to the old phone, got it going and then moved the sim over to the newer phone and swap again.... any complications that I might face?
thank you so much - blaskjar

I, too, have an original iPhone that my son has been using as an iPod Touch. I never had a sim card in it and have never updated it. He can't play some of the games that you can get from the App store some times.
I still do have the original SIM card. when I put the card in I got the sign to plug in and all that. It came up with my cell number and wanted to add some texting so I hit cancel. Does anyone understand that?
Also, I had heard stories of when you updated the original iPhone that it pretty much locked it up. Can you update a phone without a SIM card (stupid question - I know!)
    Thanks!

  • Original iPhone w/2.0: won't connect to mail servers

I updated my original iPhone to the 2.0 firmware (after some trouble), but now retrieving mail refuses to function.
I use IMAP over SSL, which fails with a "The connection to the server xxx failed." message. I also have tried my GMail and Yahoo accounts... nothing works. Sometimes the 'wait' icon on the top just stays on a long time, sometimes it comes back with an error very quickly.
With a packet viewer, I can see my iPhone sending packets to my mail server and getting response packets, but it just won't work.
I'd suspect bad settings somehow, but then the GMail and Yahoo stuff should be working if it's just a settings issue.
The web browser and App Store work. it's not a network thing.
    Any ideas?

Okay, today for no apparent reason both GMail and Yahoo have started working. My local IMAP is not.
I noticed on the earlier 1.1.4 firmware I had to set up my IMAP server for SSL2... could the new one use SSL3?
Also, my IMAP server certificate is self-signed. The old firmware asked once if it was okay, then allowed it from then on. Does anyone have a IMAP server with a self-signed certificate working with the 2.0 firmware?

  • Original iPhone software 2.0 stuck in apple logo mode

Updated my original iPhone to 2.0 this past weekend then proceeded to load several games/utilities to my phone. This morning during browsing on safari that the screen went blank. I proceeded to restart but the phone is stuck in apple logo mode. Connecting it to iTunes only freezes up iTunes, never got to the point where iTunes recognizes the phone. I'm able to turn it off and it's about it. Help, I've got a brick....any suggestions? I've had the phone for a year and this has never happened. Thanks!

I also discovered that If I push it to DFU and then use Recboot to exit it it will show 4 lines from the console over the logo and than screen turns black until the battery will die.

  • How do I update my original 3g iphone?

How do I update my original 3g iphone? Mac & Itunes are up-to-date, but it's not recognized when I connect.

You will need to update to at least OS X 10.5.8 on your Mac, then update to the current release of iTunes. It's required for iOS 4.x

  • IPhone 2.0 Update let down on original iPhone!!!

APPLE, YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME!!! HAS ANYONE NOT NOTICED THAT THE SPEAKER VOLUME FOR YOUR IPOD ON THE ORIGINAL IPHONE HAS GOTTEN MUCH MUCH LOWER?
I NOW HAVE TO PUT MY EAR UP TO IT TO LISTEN TO THE SONG! WOW, IT IS SOOOO LOW?
    AM I ALONE? SO ANNOYING!!!

Sad news. This happened to me long ago when I upgraded from 1.1.1 to 1.1.4 .. the volume just disappeared. I took it to the Apple store where the Genius said he'd never seen that happen before. He spent about 3 minutes testing the phone then ..
gave me a brand new one. He said that somehow the update had affected the volume somehow, he didn't know.
All that to say, after that experience I was leary about upgrading to 2.0 but I did it yesterday and wouldn't you know it .. I can barely hear the ipod or anything again. Apparently this is a rare condition that happens to only a small group of iPhone owners. My warranty expires in August so I'm scheduling an appointment at our Apple store. Hopefully they'll give me a 3G phone. I imagine that's what they'd have to give me if they don't sell the old ones anymore. I suggest that you make an appointment at your Apple store too. Take the phone in, let them listen to the volume .. perhaps this is all good news if we get brand new 3G phones for free.

  • Has anyone else had the issue of losing the YouTube apps on the original IPhone after updating to 4.3.5

Has anyone else had the issue of losing theYouTube app on the original IPhone after updating to 4.3.5?  (The Restrictions is turned as OFF)
The Youtube app is now cleaned away from the IOS 4.3.5
    Any help would be appreciated.

This still doesn't make sense. The iPhone 4 may have come with a number of different versions of iOS out of the box depending on when it was purchased and how long it had sat on the shelf.
If you can't find it, check restrictions and make sure you haven't locked it out.

  • Update the original system software in my iPhone 4?

Update the original system software in my iPhone 4?
I am helping a friend having problems updating the system in her iPhone 4.
She has verizon service for the phone. She owns an iMac G5 running 10.4.11.
When she plugs her iphone 4 into her iMac G5 she can't get past an error saying
tht her computer system software is to old to update the iPhone 4.
I am sure there are many people using new iphones with older computers, system.
There should be some way to update her iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.4 Software Update
with her iMac G5. If not, what about doing it with my up to date Intel Mac Pro?
I can't believe that buing a new iPhone forces you to buy a new computer to keep
it up to date? That is not like Apple at all. Thank you for your time and patience.
                                                                                                                                W.W.

Basically, this is correct.  If she has a Mac running 10.4.11, then she is unable to download iTunes 7, which is what you need to be able to update to the latest software - iOS6.0.1 or use an iPhone 5.
To be able to update your Mac to iTunes 7, you need to have Snow Leopard or above installed, Snow Leopard being 10.6 and you also need an Intel Mac to be able to instal Snow Leopard.  Apple are sending people free upgrade DVD's of Snow Leopard so that you can upgrade if applicable and then from there and once you have upgraded you can get the Mac App Store where you can then download Lion and Mountain Lion.  All upgrades are then CD free.
There is no point in her upgrading from your Mac, because it won't then sync with any of her own things that she has.
Either she will have to leave her phone the way it is or wait until she is ready to purchase a new and more up to date Mac and then go from there.
Mac OS 10.4 is old now in computer terms, so it does pay to keep your system and computers reasonably up to date as and when you can afford it, but especially the OS.
