Updates to solaris 8 x86 early access?

I have finally updated my solaris 7 to solaris 8 and I am unable
to find any updates on the net. I have the early access version from
November, 99 and its causing me some pain (a lot more pain than
solaris 7).
There doesn't seem to be a recommended patch cluster, but I have to
believe there have been many changes since November.
Any pointers would be helpfull.

The final product is available since march 2000. There's also a
june 2000 release now. The media costs 75$, the licence to run it
on as many systems as you like is free (for systems with <= 8 cpus).
http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries/
It's true that there's no (public) recommended patch cluster for
solaris 8, although there are patches for solaris 8. It seems
as if the patch process for solaris 8 is somewhat broken: patch
reports are not updated since april, required patches for some
products not available, like http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/install-solaris-patches.html#2.8,
etc...

  • Sun one 7 update 3 + solaris 8 -x86 setup crashes..!

    Hi
I'm having a wierd problem setting up sun one app server update 3 on solaris 8 x86 platform.
The issue is that when i try running the setup it crashes
    ======================================
    ./setup -console
ld.so.1: ./setup: fatal: libCstd.so.1: open failed: No such file or Directory
    Killed
    ======================================
I guess the app server is not fiding some shared object.. so i edited /etc/default/init and added
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib.. but no luck ! I could not find any patch @ sunsolve that addresses this issue ...
The app server was supposed to be for solaris 9-x86. Is it causing the problem ? is there any workaround for this ?
Also does any one know how to remove all the windowing packages from a solaris machine ? I want the machie to be a server with no GUI stuff on it ..

Try collecting and looking into the sequence of all system calls taking place during setup execution with truss:
    # truss -o truss.out -feald ./setup -console
There is a good chance that you might notice the reason why the ld is failing on trying to load the libCstd.so.

  • Kernel patch update for solaris 10 x86

I have Solaris 10 06/06 installed on x86 machine which is using svm and clustered with another node. The kernel revision is 118855-19 from the uname -a output. I am looking for the kernel patch updation and I heard 118855-36 is the latest one. Shall I go ahead with this patch and what r the dependency patches for this.
If anyone done this please suggest and guide me..

For Solaris 10 x86 the latest offered with smpatch is 125101-07 and yes it may be recommended to patch. Then again you said clustered with sun cluster? You may want to check the documentation and if your machines aren't facing the internet you may wait for 7/07 to hit the street and do an upgrade.

I am looking for the kernel patch updation and I heard 118855-36 is the latest one. Shall I go ahead with this patch and what r the dependency patches for this.
If anyone done this please guide me..

Patch 118855-36 is the latest kernel patch for Solaris 10 on x86 and its dependencies are:
    113000-01 117435-02 118344-14 119043-09 119255-14 121264-01 122035-01 123840-01 (or greater)
Whether you should go ahead and install the patch is up to you, if possible try it out on a test box first. For better advice on this matter, I would suggest posting in the Solaris 10 forum as this forum is for the Sun Update Connection, Patch Manager & PatchPro toolsets.

  • Wherabouts of Solaris 8 x86 MU3

    Hi,
I am trying to find out where I can obtain/download the MU3 update for Solaris 8 x86.
I am specifically interested in the nVidia TNT2 driver that appears to be available on this release.
    TIA

Well I had undergone the same problem, what I did was then use Netscape Enterprise Browser, and there is worked just fine, and was able to save the file onto my pc, without it being opening in an another window, so if possible use Netscape Browser and try and see what happens. Hope this helps you.

  • Where to obtain Update 3 for Solaris 10 x86

    Hello all,
For some reason my smpatch is broken and won't download patches. I need to locate Update 3 for Solaris 10 x86 but with all the new changes to the website I'm completely lost and can't seem to find the download link.
    Can anyone help out?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi
google "download solaris", first hit, at the bottom of the page "Looking for prior versions of Oracle Solaris?"
    Here it says
"Note 1: Previous versions of Solaris 10 are no longer necessary as the latest release includes support for all Solaris 10 supported platforms and includes important enhancements not found in earlier releases."
and "Solaris 10 10/08" (aka Update 6) is the oldest available.
Note that you now need a support contract to access all patches except for patches to the "Oracle Solaris" compiler (if installed) and to the patch system.

  • Fresh solaris 10 x86 install patch update problems 119060-17 ...

Just yesterday, i installed a fresh Solaris 10 x86 onto some pc hardware. After getting solaris installed and issues with my network card, i downloaded and installed the free version of the update manager 1.0.x. Next, i proceeded to update all the general patches for the solaris 10 system. I started with the command 'pprosvc -i' from a terminal. It then proceeded to download and validate a bunch of patches successfully until it hit the following 3 patches:
    119060-17 ---- X11 6.6.2_x86: Xsun patch
    122213-10 ---- GNOME 2.6.0_x86: GNOME Desktop Patch
    122912-02 ---- SunOS 5.10_x86: Apache 1.3 Patch
All 3 failed some kind of validation and then crashed the pprosvc program, at which point it exited with the following error:
    122912-02 cannot be validated
    119060-17 cannot be validated
    122912-02 cannot be validated
Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digital signature(s).
I also tried to use the GUI Update Manager to update, hoping the problem was isolated to pprosvc, but that problem was also in the GUI with a similar error message:
Error occurred...The detailed error message is: Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digitial signature(s)
Anyone know why Sun's update patch process is so troublesome?
    Getting Tired of Solaris Updates...
I should mention that this is the free solaris 10 x86 install and i don't have a service contract with Sun. If this problem persists, i don't think i'll get one, as i see only further problems after buying one.
    tired and confused

    Hi,
    There is an issue with this that is currently being investigated. There is another thread that may shed some light on what is happening here;
    http://forum.sun.com/jive/forum.jspa?forumID=316
Thread title is : Sun UC, Digitally Signed Patches Using New Verisign Certificates
In the short-term please ensure that the patch mentioned in it is installed.
To quote part of mentioned thread above:
"Once the Sun Update Connection client software is upgraded with patch 121118-06 (SPARC) or 121119-06 (x86/x64) or later revisions normal behavior will resume. "
    If this fails to resolve your problem, would you be kind enough to post the output of the following command for analysis please;
    # showrev -p | egrep -e '121454|121119|120336|121082|121564|122232|119789'

  • Trouble accessing my UPS manager through browser on Solaris 10 x86 w/ TX

I am having issues attempting to use my web browser to manage/monitor my APC PowerChute Agent software for my APC UPS. In order to access the manager I need to use http://localhost:3052 as my address. I can reach the login screen successfully, but everytime I attempt to login, I am looped right back to the login screen (like hitting the refresh button). I am not getting login error, just a fresh new login screen.
The machines utilize Solaris 10 x86 (8/07) with Trusted Extensions and Java 1.5.0_12-b04, which is well above the required 1.4.2_13 needed to run the PowerChute Agent.
Even though I can not access the Agent locally, I can access and monitor remotely (i.e. machine A and machine B can not log in to themselves, but machine A can log into machine B, and vice versa). I have tried using exact ip addresses, 127.0.0.1, and different aliases, all with the same result.
I have stopped/restarted the daemon processes, uninstalled/reinstalled repeatedly, checked and double-checked serial port specifications as well as different configurations.
I have worked with APC as much as possible to aleviate the situation, but no solution has been found.

I have recently uninstalled Trusted Extensions on a few of the machines and I have full use of the browser manager for my APC PowerChute software. Are there certain privledges I need to set up within TX to allow local access to the afformentioned port/software?

  • Keyboard messed up on Solaris 10 x86 after applying patch update

I have run into a keyboard problem on my Solaris 10 desktop. The keyboard is messed up. When I type root then it echoes as eiir. It is a Solaris 10 x86 system with PS/2 keyboard. The keyboard layout is US-English and type is generic 104 keys. The keyboard works fine in text mode but gets messed up as soon as the graphical login screen comes up.
The output for eeprom kbd-type is kbd-type=US-English(104-Key).
The output for kbd -l is
    type=6
    layout=33 (0x21)
    delay(ms)=500
    rate(ms)=40.
Running command showrev -p | grep 118966 shows

My keyboard was working fine till around a couple of days back and messed up after performing updates with Sun Update Manager. The patch 118966-21 was installed during that update and so was patch 118844-30. I have not tried uninstalling either of these patches to see if that fixes the problem. Should I?
    Please help!!! Thanks

    Problem solved... me the n00b...
After reading the log in /var/dt/Xerrors more closely this time I found that it was trying to load module "Keyboard" for the device "Keyboard1" and was not able to find that module. The log was also suggesting that this module is deprecated and I should use "kbd" instead... Made the changes in xorg.conf and things are good now...

  • Solaris 10 x86 JumpStart install not working

I'm working with several Compaq DL380 servers.
    I've installed Solaris 10 x86 3/05 onto DL380 #1, and created a 3GB servername.flar Flash Archive of that system.
I've moved that .flar file to a local web server. I can bring it up in any host's browser on the local subnet, and am able to download the .flar file.
Now, on DL380 #2, I can install Solaris from CDs and open Mozilla and download the 3GB .flar file to /tmp. So, it is reachable. However, if I do a re-install, and this time specify a JumpStart install via HTTP, entering the URL that works, the install program tells me that it can't find a Flash Archive there. I'm entering the URL as http:/10.20.30.40/servername.flar, where 10.20.30.40 is the local web server. This is the same URL that works on other local hosts. (i.e. going to http:/10.20.30.40/ brings up the list of files, and a right-click on servername.flar gives you the option to download it, which I've tried and it does work - it takes a few hours, but it works)
I tried HTTPS first and when I encountered this issue I reconfigured the web server for just HTTP. Then I thought the Flash archive must require a .flar filename extension (I had originally called it servername.archive) so I created a new Flash archive with a .flar extension - servername.flar.
So, the same system, when installed from CDs, can access the web server and download the .flar file, but when re-installing and specifying the same URL it can't find it. I'm giving the DL380 #2 the same IP, same netmask, etc.. when doing the re-install.
I can't think of anything else to try. Any ideas?
    thanks!

    Here is the error output:

  • How to install .ttf fonts in Solaris 10 x86 10/08 ?

    Hi,
I have installed Solaris 10 x86 10/08 on my Pentium-II machine. It is working fine. I am using Java Desktop Session 3 (JDS3).
I have to install a few true type fonts (.ttf) to the machine and make it accessible in the gnome-terminal. I have the font files, that is .ttf files, in my system, but they are not installed.
Could you please give me the procedure to achieve this? Should I install any patches for this?
    Regards,
    Sreeram

    Hello Lubos Kocman,
Thanks for your reply. I followed your suggestion and put the .ttf fonts in the /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType directory and rebooted the system.
[Actually, you had mentioned to put them in /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TTF directory. But I did not find the TTF directory. Instead I found TrueType directory and so I felt it appropriate to place them here.]
But still I am unable to access and choose those fonts from my gnome-terminal's font list. Have I missed something? The same result was obtained when I placed the fonts in the ~/.fonts directory also. Please guide me if I am doing something wrong.
How do we ensure that the system has recognised the fonts which have been installed newly? Any commands to confirm this? Are there any log files pertaining to fonts, where we can know whether the fonts were recognised by the system, and if not recognised, the reason for the same?
Also, I would like to paste the contents of /etc/release of my system:
    Solaris 10 10/08 s10x_u6wos_07b X86
Copyright 2008 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
Use is subject to license terms.
    Assembled 27 October 2008
Should I install any patches to this version of Solaris 10 to get the .ttf fonts installed. As mentioned earlier, I am using Java Desktop System, Release 3 desktop.
Kindly guide me in installing/accessing the .ttf fonts.
    Regards,
    Sreeram
