Updates to the Air?

I have a macbook air that I got this last April before the new ones came out in June. I'm told the processor on the new ones is faster and the battery life is longer. Is there anyway for me to update mine to have the same specs as the new Air?

You might consider selling yours and purchasing a new Air.

You are in Recovery Mode. Follow the instructions below to recover your iPad.
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
    5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad. Data will be lost.

  • Update Over The Air - Nokia 6131

If you go to http://www.nokia.co.uk/softwareupdate and try to update over the air, it gives you the instruction to do the next:
To Backup to your Memory card:
1.select Tools > Memory fron the main menu
2.select Options > Backup phone mem.
Well, i don't have those options in my Nokia 6131...
    Any idea?
    Thanks!!

Thank you Petrib. I was expecting an explanation like that and it makes sense. I already use Content Copier but the idea of perform a backup directly to the Memory Card is tempting.

    That is absolutely not true.
An NSU update for the N96 at least is a 125MB download or thereabouts.
V10.043 to V11.018 was about 3.5MB via FOTA, V11.018 to V11.101 was no more than a few hundred KB, and V11.101 to V12.043 was once again about 3MB.
FOTA is far more reliable than NSU since there are fewer machines involved (the phone grabs the update directly from Nokia instead of having it buffered by a machine, a machine running one of the most notoriously unreliable operating systems ever created) and therefore fewer points of potential failure.
As psychomania pointed out, there are cases of people bricking their phones with NSU daily on these forums. To date, we have see one case of a failed FOTA update. Draw your own conclusions.
Like our resident psycho, I hope that FOTA becomes far more widespread in the future. It is much more reliable and quick.

although i tend to agree that FOTA should be safer, but i think we might be jumping to conclusions to early, as there are about 91 phones supported by NSU, most of which are updated by the conventional PC way, whereas there are very few that uses FOTA (i knew of 2 handsets), hence the relatively lower incidence of failures...

  • Is it just me, or do most of the upgrade problems (not bugs) happen when updating "over-the-air", rather than using a computer and iTunes ?

I have used iTunes on a computer every time, and so far have had no problems like the ones we are seeing here.
Just want to reiterate - I am not talking about iOS 7 bugs - but just performing the update(s)

Absolutely!!  I've had no problems upgrading the iPhone using iTunes.  It also allows me to backup the iPhone's settings so I can recover them if something goes wrong in the upgrade process.  I have always upgraded using iTunes and would not do it any other way.
My wife upgraded to iOS6 directly to her iPhone 4S and lost her contacts and other information, and had problems with wifi access, etc.  At the next iOS change, I did the upgrade on her phone through iTunes and had no problem.
Even MacWorld reports that upgrading "over the air" directly on the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch can create instability in the OS.

  • Ios 7 update, over the air or itunes?

Should you update to ios 7 over the air or on itunes?

iOS 7 is not yet released.
However... my preference is for the Computer/iTunes option for large Updates / Upgrades.

  • Update Checking Over the Air..N80

    hi all,
this is my very first post. i'm a N80 user, and i just flashed my firmware into v 4.0623.0.42 recently.
i did it via NSU and i worked just fine.
But i have 1 simple question, everybody's talking about checking updates over the air via 'Device Manager'. I tried to do that (just in case new update's available), but when i opened my 'Device Manager', 'no server profile' is written on the screen.
What should i do about this? The server profile is supposed to be created automatically or should i create it my self? if i should, i don't have any idea how to fill in the blanks..
    any advise is kindly appreciated..

    thx 4 the reply dezi,
im afraid that is not what i meant. I've checked and the v 4.0623.0.42 fw is the newest one for my N80. and i just successfully flashed it recently (maybe a week ago).
what i really wanna know is just how to check updates via 'device manager', the settings, server profile(how to create one), etc.
    thx,

  • Can multiple iphones with multiple itunes accounts be synced to one mac keeping apps seperate over the air?

We have about 20 iPhone's in our environment and syncing and updating them has become a real chore lately.  Everyone has their own iTunes account and apps that they use. Is there a way that they can be synced, backed up and updated over the air (not iCloud) to the same MAC?  Because we are in the financial sector we will not be able to use iCloud. Should we look into some sort of private cloud and if so; any suggestions on how to accomplish it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    J

We have several macs, several ipods, a couple of iphones, several itunes store accounts. So far no problem. You might have to share passwords if you want to share content. I think iStore accounts can only be used on up to 5 computers. We have 7, so have to be a little careful about that. I don't think there is a limit on how many iDevices can be used with one account. I also don't think there is a limit on how many accounts can be used on a single computer (might be wrong about that). You have to be logged into the iStore to download content, and your computer has to be registered with the account to use the content, but once it is on, and registered, syncing to an iPod is not a problem (you do not have to login in again for each account the content was purchased from). I'm just glad I only have two kids, and one wife - things could get trickier in a big family with . . .

I have updated my iphone 5 with IOS7. Now there is an update 7.0.2 on my cell and the size of update file is showing around 21.0 MB. I tried to update it ITunes but it seems it is downloading the entire IOS. Is there any separate update for the same or I have to download the entire IOS again?

Well when you download the update with iTunes it will always download the whole new version (in your case 7.0.2) even if its just an bug fix. If you already have 7.0 download the update over-the-air.
You already wrote that the update is only 21 MB, so its not the whole firmware package of 7.0.2 you get with iTunes.

  • Updates for the first iPads

    Help

If your iPad is running a version of the iOS earlier than 5.0 you need to connect your iPad to the computer you normally sync with and start iTunes on the computer. Under General or summary there is a check for updates choice.
If your iPad is running 5.0 or later you can update over the air by using the Settings app.
Settings > General > Software Update.
The latest version of the iOS that an original iPad can handle is iOS 5.1.1

This device is not registered as part of the iPhone developer proraom . ##br####br## if yuo are member of the program.,please register your device in ..

you can update over the air with strong wireless signal, or by connecting to a computer running iTunes.  Either works well.  If you do the update over the air, be sure and attach your iPhone to a wall outlet so you have a solid power supply and don't risk the battery dying during the update.
The iTunes approach installs a much larger file because of the connection, but if you have not updated since 5.1 that might be a better approach...replace the entire operating system instead of patching.
Either way, backup the iPhone yourself just for your own protection in the off-chance something should go wrong...a little paranoia while updating is a good thing

Insert the install disk and press c on startup. Select your langauge then, if there's a menubar click utilities then click Disk Utility. If you didn't see the menubar continue with the installer until you see it.
Once in disk utitly select the drive and repair permissions.
After the repair is done, quit the utiltiy.
You can try to reboot and see if it works if you reboot, but if it doesn't repeat the same as before again.
Now you can continue with the installer and install the os.
    Quit
