Updates will not open...past 2 days know???

Hello, does anyone know why my updates will not open,it just shows a white page with the # of updates that need to be updated.Ive tried doing all re-sets including network re-sets.Im running a iPad 3 iOS 6.1.2.THANK YOU?

It seems clear that something became corrupted in the untimely shutdown.
Look at the splash logo and make a note of the event that FCP X is stuck at.
It will probably be saying something like "Updating Event (event-name-here)".
Usually, it is some render file. Since they can be rerendered, what I do in such circumstance is the following:
- force-quit FCP X
- in the Finder, locate the problematic Event (it is in a folder named just like the event, inside the "Final Cut Events" folder)
- open the folder for this event, and then the "Render Files" folder inside it
- move the contents of this "Render Files" folder to the trash
- start FCP X again (note that some portions of your timeline may need to be rerendered, but that is not a big deal)

• Acrobat 10.1.7 update will not open

Acrobat X was purchased as part of CS6 suite. I have installed it on my Dell desktop and Samsung laptop. Both machines are running Windows 7-64 bit and Internet Explorer 9. Version 10.1.6 was running fine on both machines. I installed the 10.1.7 update yesterday, 5/15.
Today Acrobat 10.1.7 is running fine on the Dell desktop
It will not open on the Samsung laptop. When I click on the desktop Acrobat icon or try to launch it from the Start Menu, nothing happens. There is no error message.
I also right clicked on a PDF file, chose the Open With option, navigated to Acrobat X in my Program Files folder and said to use this program as the default. Again, the problem was not corrected.
I went to Control Panel and repaired the Acrobat 10.1.7 installation. This did not fix the problem.
Finally I uninstalled Acrobat and reinstalled the entire Creative Suite, putting me back to version 10.1.1. That runs without problems, including the IE add-on for converting web pages.

In my original post, I said Acrobat would run on my Dell desktop but not the Samsung laptop. The next day, I found it wouldn't start on the Dell, either. When trying to convert a web page, buried at the bottom of the windows I found the message from Acrobat that it was not activated (why isn't this message on TOP ???).
I guess the initial problem -- running on one computer but not the other -- was a red herring.
I looked more closely at the posts about the program not launching after 30 days and checked Control Panel. I installed the program on April 15. The problems started on May 16 !! So I guess this is just the known problem with activation when installed as part of CS6. Still a mystery why I got an extra day of use on the Dell compared with the Samsung.
I intended to update my thread yesterday. I could see my message but there didn't seem to be a way to update or 'respond' to it.
I have applied the AcroFix.exe patch, but not yet updated to version 10.1.7.
Thanks for your help.

• Firefox update will not open. I reverted to 15.0.1 and it works.

I am running Windows 7. The problem began with update 25.0.1. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled 25.0.1 several times with no success. Quit using Firefox for a time, then tried installing 26.0. Still would not run. So I reverted to 15.0.1, and it will run.
Immediately after installing the upgrade, Firefox will run. After rebooting my computer, Firefox will not open. An error "not responding" appears and I have to go into Task Manager to close Firefox.
I have tried everything in your help files that pertains to my computer. I really like Firefox, but am getting a bit frustrated.

Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
''(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)''
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item:
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode''
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''

'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''

• Numbers 3.1 update will not open on my OS X 10.9.1 iMac

I updated Numbers a few days ago, from the App Store, to the new version 3.1. It will not now open any of my spreadsheets and goes directly to "Not Responding". How am I suppose to run my business if I can't access my figures? This is yet another little hiccup since "upgrading" to Mavericks! Hellllpppppp!

Hi Babowa.
I already had Etre Check and the results are as follows. With regard to the Beta version, I only mentioned it as a workaround. As far as I am aware you can only access it in iCloud, along with Contacts, Calendar, etc. I absolutely agree with yopur analysis on migration.

I have iphone 4 and have followed all the steps to update and cannot get past "connect to Itunes"

Hey soozeeC
Use iTunes to update it. Download the latest version and install it. Once it is plugged in, it will ask if you want to update your iPhone to iOS 7. If that does not work then click restore.

• Itunes error msg with latest update - will not open!

Just installed latest itunes update (9.2.1 I think) - update went fine, rebooted, all ok. Just fired the computer up again today and tried opening itunes only to immediately receive an error msg saying "itunes can not open - missing files. Re-install itunes".
Anyone found this?
Just checked and I do have the latest version of Quicktime installed.
Don't want to re-install itunes as I might loose all my settings.
Thanks.

Fixed it! Took the plunge and hit "download itunes". When it popped up, the option asked if I wanted to "repair" to I did. 100% fixed and all me settings etc are still there! Phew!!

• Yosemite 10.10.3 update will not go past blank screen on reboot

I have a early 2008 iMac 2.8 Ghz intel Core 2 Duo running Yosemite 10.10.2. When doing the 10.10.3 update, everything is fine until after the reboot when the apple logo disappears and I'm left frozen on a white screen. I had to restore from Time Machine backup and tried to update again with the same result. I still have not updated to 10.10.3.

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
To restart an unresponsive computer, press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly.
Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
Step 3
Sometimes a startup failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
Step 4
If a desktop Mac hangs at a plain gray screen with a movable cursor, the keyboard may not be recognized. Press and hold the button on the side of an Apple wireless keyboard to make it discoverable. If need be, replace or recharge the batteries. If you're using a USB keyboard connected to a hub, connect it to a built-in port.
Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can start up now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
Step 7
If you've started from an external storage device, make sure that the internal startup volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Start up in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know the login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you start up in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, the startup volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 11. If you ever have another problem with the drive, replace it immediately.
If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the startup process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select the startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.
Step 9
If the startup device is an aftermarket SSD, it may need a firmware update and/or a forced "garbage collection." Instructions for doing this with a Crucial-branded SSD were posted here. Some of those instructions may apply to other brands of SSD, but you should check with the vendor's tech support.
Step 10
Reinstall the OS. If the Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
Step 11
Do as in Step 9, but this time erase the startup volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically restart into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer the data from a Time Machine or other backup.
Step 12
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a startup failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
Step 13
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

• My software update shows that no update is available for my machine. It shows that it is running Snow Leopard 10.5.8, downloads for the 10.6.8 update will not open. I am trying to get the mac store app so I can upgrade to Lion.

I have not been successful in obtaining the latest version of Snow Leopard so I have the Mac Store app. My computer shows that there are no updates available even though it only shows it running version 10..5.8. I would like to upgrade to Lion. When I download the .dmg updates from the web, they try unsuccessfully to open in Itunes or Quicktime. I can not get them to run. What is my next step?

As noted, in order to update from OS X 10.5.x to OS X 10.6.x you will need to acquire the retail package for OS X 10.6; that initial jump can not be done via download.
The current shipping retail version for OS X 10.6 is 10.6.3. Once you have installed that you can update it to OS X 10.6.8 via the Combo Update - running Software UPdate should be able to fetch that for you. You can also download it directly -
Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
Once you have installed that you can download and install the update for OS X 10.7 (Lion).

• ITunes update will not open -- file format not recognized

My computer cannot open the iTunes update. The error message says that the archive format is not recognized.
As far as I can tell the file format, or extension is rpm. My research reveals that this stands for Red Hat Package Manager. I downloaded a trial version of Salamander which claims to handle rpm file archives, but it STILL won't open.
Does anyone know what type of file extractor I need to open these files? Any help would be appreciated.

• Firefox update will not open.

Firefox 33 recently did an automatic update on my desktop. Now when I open Firefox, all I get is a black window. Nothing else shows. Chrome and Internet Explorer work. I use Windows 7. I can't do anything with Firefox itself because nothing is visible when the window opens; it's just black with a blurry bar on the top.
Thanks.

hello Emma99, other users with this problem all had an embedded intel hd graphics card with an old driver present. in case this also applies to you, here would be a link to update the driver, which in turn should also address the black firefox problem.
