Updating 3.2.3 Vaults Using 3.5.1

Hello,
I am in the process of upgrading from OSX 10.6.8 to OSX 10.9.3 and from Aperture 3.2.3 to 3.5.1 (using managed library on an external drive) on an iMac and MacBook Pro. I have two Aperture vaults on separate portable USB drives. The first time I run the new Aperture it will require updating file formats.
My question is what do I do about updating the vaults after Aperture has updated the library? When I first update the current vaults in 3.5.1 will it also update the vaults to the 3.5.1 formats or will I have to create new vaults for 3.5.1?

Yep the prices have really changed. I recommend you run a single pass erase and reformat the drive as OS X even if the box says and the drive mount on your system. If you have the time you could even run a few more passes. I like to give the drive a bit of a workout before putting anything of value on it, it's not a rigorous test but at least you shake out any of the real stinkers before you start using it.
Should I let Aperture repair permissions and its database for the 3.2.3 library before upgrading it to 3.5.1 (I still have the 3.2.3 app on our MBP)?
I definitely would. I always do this and run a repair before doing a vault operation.
I want a second vault. Do you think it would be quicker to copy the new 3.5.1 vault to another drive (1 TB USB 2 portable) and change the path or let Aperture build the second one from scratch?
Copying probably would be faster (only a guess, can;t say for sure) But i would let Aperture create the second vault. The reason being if something went wrong while making the first vault that wash;t immediately obvious then if you make the scone vault by copying then you would copy the problem. This has a very small chance of actually happening but still I feel if you're making a backup backup the source material, not the backup. But most likely either will be fine. The only reason I;d do the copy is if the first vault operation took such a long time that doing it for a second vault would keep me out of Aperture for to long a period of time.
Have you thought about instead of two vaults doing a vault on one disk and a close of the library disk on the other? More backups is always better but better still is a diversity of backup types. Just a thought.
Finally, I expect the library update and vault building processes will take significant time. For a library of this size do you have a feel for whether I’m looking at hours or tens of hours for each of these processes?
Really hard to say, most likely in the 10 to 12 hour range but it depends on the library on what else is running the memory i the system. I see you have 4gb, correct. To be honest that is on the low end side for Aperture and Mavericks. If you are going to be keeping this system I'd advise you to upgrade to at least 8gb, 12 or 16 would even be better, Doesn't; have to be done before you start all this but it is something to think about. What year is the iMac, BTW?

After finally getting my imac from fedex, cannot get past the Update Apple ID and to use ICloud I have to change my app id. okay, but the red keeps saying that email address is already being used. is it because I am on the apple site on a netbook pc?

On the Update Apple ID screen to use ICloud, I get a red message that email address is already being used. It does not accept my email address? I do not understand what the screen is asking me. Is this because I am using the apple ID on a netbook for this note or what.
Is there a way to bypass this screen if I don't want to use ICloud? I don't want to screw up the original setup of my imac. If I could get to the desktop, then I would know what OS and programs are in my machine.

10.7.3 update will not run. I've downloaded it's 2 Gb twice now (half my monthly internet) and the dialog box says "download could not be saved". Without this update I cannot update Java and therefore cannot use my nebank. Ideas?

Where can I report this to Apple, I've just spent 20 minutes trying to find some way to contact them.

Sorry Gimp, but in fairness you didn't solve my problem, you got the points though (accidentally).
It may well have worked, but just downloading the Combo update directly from Apple did the trick. This answer from Scott Newman put me onto it.
However, in this case, there is very clearly an issue that is correlated to two things: 1) Using the automated "Software Update" as compared to downloading and using the separate Mac OS X 10.7.3 Combo Updater; and 2) Certain Mac notebook computers. In most cases, but not all, running the Combo Updater over a failed 10.7.3 update using Software Updater will fix the problems. If a user can't get to the desktop or can't download the updater because of the previous failed update, there is information (albit geeky) in the previously noted thread to deal with this.
Most older, experienced Mac users never trust the automated Software Update process for system updates and always download and use the related "Combo" updater. Unfortunately, many newer Mac users know nothing about this. Apple's revenues and profit growth have come at the expense of having an exponentiall increase in the number of non-Geek users who just want their Mac to work like their toaster.

we have 2 iphone 4's synced to the same itunes account for apps and music since the day we bought them, but each has a different icloud acct. they have both been updated on the same itunes account with every update that has come out since we bought them in december of 2010. nothing on either phone has ever been lost or duplicated. having said all that, maybe i'm missing something here, but we have had no problems. we do have itunes setup to sync manually. i do believe i'm a piker compared to lawrence finch, but i'm just telling you what happens in my house. maybe check with apple? is there a store near you?

I do NOT like using my credit card if I don't have to, and I went out of my way to go buy an Apple gift card, which I successfully redeemed into my Apple account. However, when I use the Apple "Cards" app, it will not let me use anything other than my credit card. I tried purchasing a card, hopefulling it would come out of my Apple store balance, but no such luck -- it came out of my credit card.
Apple is becoming more like Microsoft every day.

I called this problem into Apple and they solved it for me. The problem is in the downloader associated with iTunes. Skip that step and go to Apple.com and download the new iTunes softwere update (Version 11.1) directly. I did this and installed it successfully. After restarting the computer iTunes recognized my phone and all was well. Then I updated and installed the ios7 update without any problems. No charge. Full cudo's to Apple!

now even on iPads !
Frustrating!
I'm now more than convinced that this is caused by the latest iTunes version.
As some others stated in other threads .... it seems that Apple doesn't really take care of this problem. So what if, if we could make them feeling the same pain as we do. ... Just by dropping them a mail as soon as we have the problem again. Not more often, we don't want to be unfair, but everytime it happens.

Since the last update to iTunes Version 10.6.1 (7) streaming content (Movies and TV shows) to Apple TVs and iPads has two major problems:
- Home Sharing is lost during streaming (streaming stops even if a large portion of the content is already preloaded)
- streaming stops and the main screen pops up (Home Sharing still available)
This happens sometime after some minutes, sometimes after several hours, but it surely happens.
I followed every advice I could found on this support website. There are now a lot of threads following this issue.
Sometimes it seems getting better, but hours later the same isues occured again. Watching content on this enviroment is a real pain and very frustrating.
As many others I'm now convinced that the latest update of iTunes caused this problem.
Our family enviroment contains the following Apple products:
- iTunes on a Win7 32 bit Noname PC (all content)
- second iTunes on a iMac with OS 10.6.8 (all content)
- third iTunes on a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.8 (daughter, only selected content)
- fourth iTunes on a Win7 32 Samsung Notebook (son, only selected content)
- all iTunes sharing the same Home Sharing ID
- 2 Apple TV second generation
- 1 Apple TV first generation
- 2 iPod touch (bought last year)
- 2 iPads (second generation)
all firmware or software are on latest available patchlevel.
At this moment, I can not recomend to others to buy this products.
I will drop this feedback everytime my famiily and I facing this problem... just to help you to get a better feeling of the urgency of this issue.

Problem in creating and updating of material by the use of bapi and bdc

I am using bapi (BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA ) and than bdc to create and update classification data of material.
I am facing a problem.
1) firstly I am creating material by the use of bapi and than after creation i want to update classification data for taht perticular material .
2) To update classification data i am using bdc . while at the time of updating material through bdc system showing me error that material is currently locked by user (my login name ).
Please suggest what to do.

When u update/create data it takes sometime to commit. So after using BAPI
give 10 minutes wait in ur program before updating classification data.
you can write like
wait up to 20 seconds.
and update the classification.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP

Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

Thanks to Bobthefisherman & Turbostar. Turns out I've got a corrupted disk (which I found out via "verify disk" on Disk Utility First Aid. Previously, I never thought to verify disk -- only to repair permissions -- so I never knew my HD had been corrupted.
Wasn't able to do a clean install of OSX10.6 because my SuperDrive only sporadically will load discs, so I am taking it to the Apple Store to see if they can do a clean install, and depending upon costs, get the Superdrive replaced.
The HD wasn't partioned by the way. And I did have just over 40GB of contiguous space.
