Updating a imovie once sent to iDVD

Is it possible to edit your imovie once it has already been sent to iDVD, or do you have to resend the entire feature?

MadisonP,
That accomplishes the same thing Bengt and I are saying. A new iDVD project has to be created.
Many of us don't send our iMovies directly to iDVD from within iMovie. In prior iMovie versions, that caused double rendering and caused some playback problems.
We usually open an iDVD project and then import our iMovies from within iDVD. In the past versions of iDVD....v6 and before...if you made a edit in the movie after sending it to an iDVD project, iDVD would recognize that the movie had been edited, ask if you wish to have the movie updated in its iDVD project, and incorporate the changes. Worked perfectly.
Now, the newer versions of iDVD...8 & 9, will behave the same way, but the new changes are not incorporated properly and the chapters will not play correctly.
What you are describing is the same result....a new iDVD project is created with the edited iMovie.
What we are saying is that the older better process of allowing edits to a movie already in an iDVD project no longer works.

  • Audio sync problem once burned. Everything great in iMovie, once exported to iDVD and burned audio is 20 minutes out of sync.

My movie is a wedding, so it's 1 hr 35 min long. I've used 3 songs from iTunes and no other outside audio. I've tried the following already:
Changing the encoding settings from Best Performance to Professional Quality. (becuase an error came up saying movie is too long, change encoder setting)
Changing the Single-Layer Disc to Double-Layer Disc.
Splitting the video into 2 parts to make it shorter.
Getting rid of the noise reduction on a few of the clips.
    Optimize--Full.
I get things that say 'error -41' etc. but I googled this and nothing came up as to what that error code means.
Is the amount of free space I have on my Mac a possible problem as well? I have 40 GB available. I tried moving all of the rejected clips to the trash and an error came up saying not enough space to delete.
Can I uninstall '11 and go back to using '09??

    Hi
Error -41   mFulErr  Memory full (open) or file won't fit (load)
So if You've really got 40Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk - Others DO NOT count as neither iDVD or Mac OS can use space there for it's temp files.
Then I would close down Mac even disconnect Mains - Then re-start it and see if it got's it's memory right.
    Else
    • Audio from iTunes - use to give me problems - so I do - in iTunes
    • collect the needed audio into a new PlayList
    • Burn this out as an Audio-CD (.aiff) - NOT .mp3
    • Use thge files on this CD in movie projects
    Works for me.

  • Error iMovie could not be sent to iDVD during share process

I've just finished editing a 5 minute movie with iMovie 6.0.3
When I click the share menu on iMovie, then click iDVD I get an error box that states the movie could not be sent to iDVD, because if an unknown error
Furthermore it states to please be sure that iDVD is properly installed. It is, I just made a DVD with iDVD a couple days ago.
Additionally, it states to make sure my project disk has write permission. It does I checked on that.
Then finally it asks if I have enough disk space. I do as I've hardly used any of my external fire wire hard drive.
I wonder if this problem has anything to do with the G-Drive firewire hard drive? When I shared iMovie last time with iDVD I used the Mac's internal hard drive and not the external hard drive.
Thanks in advance for any help

Okay, Catspaw this is where it gets confusing. In the installation guide for the G=Drive on page 13 of 15 of the pdf file for cross platform use it states:
    7.3. Cross Platform Use
To setup your G-DRIVE for use on both Windows and
Macintosh systems, use the Apple Disk utility and format
    G-DRIVE FAT32.
    1. Open the Apple Disk Utility. (The Apple Disk Utility is
currently limits FAT32 partitions to 32GB in size)
    WARNING:
THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON YOUR DRIVE.NOTE: The 'MS-DOS File System' cannot write files over 4 GB. If you are working with files over 4 GB, you may want to choose a software option like MacDrive. MacDrive is Windows software that enables the Windows OS to mount MAC
Sorry for the lengthy discourse, its the only way I can explain what I did to set the G-Drive up for my Mac.
I go to Get Info for the G-Drive while its mounted on the Mac and it states the Format is MS-DOS File System (Fat 32) not Mac OS Extended as you mention.
I'm confused now, because the G-Drive installation directions state Click “Erase” and your drive will be formatted to its full capacity as FAT32. With this format, you will be able to READ/WRITE on both windows (2000/XP) and MAC OS machines.
Any insight to the Mac OS extended and FAT32 for cross platform use?
Further checking the installation instructions for a MAC without cross platform use it does state MAC OS extended.
So now I'm confused with two scenarios one cross platform (FAT32) the other not cross paltform (Mac OS extended) By cross platform I mean that I can also use the G-Drive with my Sony PC
    Thanks in advance

  • URGENT- DOING MEMORIAL VIDEO sound and video are off when sent to iDVD

I watch the video in iMovie and the sound and video are in sync. When I send to iDVD, the two are no longer in sync. I have made changes to the iMovie project since my last DVD burn. With the initial burn, there were no sound issues.
I've tried all of the following:
    1. closing and reopening iMovie and iDVD
    2. resending from iMovie to iDVD
    3. readding the clip and removing the original clip from the iMovie project
    4. restarting my computer
The only things I have not done are the following:
    1. redownloading the original video clip from my camcorder
    2. recreating the project
    3. trying a different project to see if that one has the same audio/video issue (this will be my next step)
#2 above is literally so intense as I have a lot of editing on this. To make it clear to you, I have video footage of a memorial.... and after the memorial I chose little 20-30 second clips here and there. I don't have audio with those clips -- just iTunes music overlay.... so, those I don't need to worry about sound coinciding.... just the 30 minute clip that is the actual memorial service.
This is time sensitive.... it is a memorial video and I don't have time to redo the thing from the beginning, especially considering how long it took me to find those 20-30 second clips of the post-memorial.
    Please help!

Yes... I had seen that.... and, yep, have the latest software.... and even rebooted my machine thinking that maybe it hadn't been restarted since the update (can't remember how long ago the update was).
I did a test run with a mobile size (it takes over an hour when I share with iDVD, which has been annoying with all my attempts to "fixing") file sharing with media browser and still the sound was not matched.
I started another project alltogether in iMovie and it does not have the sound issue when sent to iDVD....
I can copy and paste the more difficult editing I did between the "bad original copy" and my "do-over"... but, it seems to not copy exact length of each clip (it decreased it by a second each clip on the ones I copied over but that is weird since it did copy over the slowed % I had on the original) ..... see the more complex editing I have has the sound silenced and I have music overlay on that....
I have many more to go... and can't copy text directly from one project to another... in fact, there is a lot you can't just copy over.... I have to redo the music, special effects etc. This is not going to be a walk in the park if I can't find a way to make my "bad original copy" work.
Still looking for more suggestions (than to start all over), but will have to start over if I spend too much time making the one I have work.... then it becomes more sensical to just start over. I have quite a bit of time in the original, but if I can copy and paste the clips, that takes a majority of the work out.... but, if any of my copy and pastes somehow "corrupt" the sound sync on the portion that isn't silenced and music overlaid, then, there is a lot of work having to recreate all my edits from scratch.

  • Video studder, iMovie, EyeTV, Tivo  and iDVD

Video stutter has been discussed elsewhere. I have tried all solutions that I have read. My problem seems to be with the following, and I was hoping someone could explain the reason for the problem, and possible solution(s).
I have recorded a show on my DirecTV Tivo. The show was transferred to VHS tape . Then imported to the computer through EyeTV. Exported from EyeTV through EyeTV's "export to iMovie" feature. Video was edited and sent to iDVD.
Video, when played back in iMovie from the computer was fine. The burned DVD has the studder.
I tried using the same iMovie file in Toast 8 and the video is fine. However Toast does not have the sophistication of iDVD, so not an option.
Using another Tivo , and using Tivo download manager, I brought a show directly into the computer. Here I did the same as before with iMovie and iDVD. All worked well, video was smooth.
So it appears that the issue is somewhere in the chaos of all the transfers.
I still have all the shows on tape that I really want to burn to disc.
    Are there any suggestions.

In lieu of a minidv camcorder, you could substitute a Firewire/digital <=> analog media converter box like a Canopus or Sony DA1 or DA2 connected to a standard vcr player/recorder. (I prefer using only firewire devices. USB tends to be a bit more problematic for video on most macs).

    Hi
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

You will get better results if you use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option and then drag the movie from the Movies pane of the Media Browser in iDVD onto the menu window.
Also I suggest you use this workflow which I learned from Bengt:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • The movie could not be sent to idvd because of an unknown er

The movie could not be sent to idvd, because of an unknown error.
I'm puzzled on this one I have created a movie from DV clips, the total movie length is 27 mins and I have 37gb of space left on the external drive, where the movie is stored.
Does anyone have any further information to resolve this?
    Many Thanks
    Matt

Hi Karsten, actually I did try moving it to the "Movies" folder on the internal drive, but still received the same error message. Right know we're having to export the movie back on a mini-DV tape and then reimport it back into iMovie as a new import in order to burn a DVD, but this means that we won't be able to edit the transitions, text, etc. in the future. We haven't had this specific problem before. I even tried pulling up another iMovie file on the external HD just as a test and had no problems in exporting it to iDVD, so it's something with this particular iMovie file that is causing the trouble. It's very frustrating! Any more suggestions would be most welcome!
    Thanks,

my MAc Book PRO 13" Retina display will not update.  It crashes every time I try to do an update.  I have sent in the information on each update but so far nothing back from Apple.  Also it does not matter what I am trying to update, the operating system, and application, each caused the same crash.   This mac book is less than a month old.

That is the highest you will be able to go with 3g. You need 3gs or 4 to go any higher (multi processors and more memory needed).  Version 4.2.1 marks the end of your updates for that device.

  • How do you import multiple iMovie projects into one iDVD project?

    Hi.
I'm 17, and am trying to create a DVD of when the family went on a cruise. For different places/days, I've created different iMovie projects.
But, when I want to export to iDVD, it only lets me put one iMovie project into one iDVD project?
I've tried dragging the actual iMovie project files into iDVD but that doesn't work.
I know I could export to QuickTime and then drag it into iDVD, but it seems exporting just to iDVD is much quicker, and the quality is better.
Anyone know how I can do this?
    cheers
+P.S. If it helps, it's iMovie '11 with iDVD '09.+

That is not true. You can use them all in one DVD. I have just created my first DVD which has a trailer, a movie with chapters and several different slide shows.
All you have to do is save each project to Media Browser. (Choose Share in toolbar). Open iDVD and choose your theme or no theme. On the right will be all your options such as audio, media photo's etc. Choose your various video's/projects etc and just drag and drop which ones you want to the page and they will automatically put themselves there with the given name of each video/project.

  • Problem writing Imovie to disc using IDVD on my Mac

Using a Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 Intel Core with IMovie 11 and IDVD to create movies.  I created the discs using my Sony DVD Direct VRD MC6 and converted the files to .mp4 using Handbrake. I've created several but had some difficulties - mostly in getting IDVD to write them. I have no problem creating, editing, copying, etc. and chosing the style ("Professional Quality") and "Normal" or Wide Screen" format to write them in. At first, after "finalizing" and "Sharing" with IDVD and then chosing the "Magic" DVD process, I would get this drop down which stated "Your file is in too large format for the program to write to disc" (or similar) - so I would go back to IMovie, cut, clip and erase to get the total time down to little more than one hour of video - which showed to be well below the 4.7 G available on the blank disc. Now it has progressed ot the point that as soon as the movie is "finaliized" I have the same "drop down" even before I open IDVD to select "Magic DVD".
    Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks much in advance and I look forward to any suggestions.
    samfromhernando

    Hi
    Yes - I don't use Magic-DVD that way.
    I do
    • in iMovie - NOT "Share to iDVD" - BUT "Share to Media Browser" and as Large (NOT HD or other resolution as result will SUFFER)
    • Close iMovie
    • Open iDVD and create a brand NEW Project (using old ones set's off the iDVD BUG with lot's of strange problems)
    • Now in iDVD I select a theme I like - Usually from Old Themes - "Brushed Metal" as this takes very little time from over all duration and this is VERY important in iDVD - Movie time PLUS Menu time. Menu can take 15 minutes or more). iDVD only cares about DURATION not at all about Mb or Gbs ! !
    • Then I click on the Media button down right and here select Movie (top right) and Here select Your movie and drag and drop it into the big iDVD Menu window to the left.
    • Select Encoding Quality - I use Pro Quality (always)
    • Set down burn speed to x2 or x4
    • Use high quality DVD brand - I use only Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R as they play on more and even older DVD-Players
    Good Luck !

Look in your Applications folder.  If your system behaved as expected, you should have an iMovie 9.0 folder in your Applications folder.  Apple moved the old version there as even they suspected the new versions was a train wreck.

You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
You can also boot into Safe mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
       1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
       2. Press the power button.
       3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
       4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
    Please post back with results,
To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

    Hi...
Delete both apps using this utility >  Download AppCleaner for Mac - Uninstall your apps easily. MacUpdate.com
That will delete the apps and all associated files.
Then re download the apps. That will download the most recent version updates included.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
