Updating a table with the data from the select list

I have 2 select lists on a page...first select list displays vendor no and vendor name from the table vendor (vendor_no, vendor_name, address, city, state, zip, ph no)
second list displays contact no and contact name from the table contact (contact_no, contact_name, email_addrs)
i have a submit button...once it is clicked the vendor_no from the first list and the contact_no from the second list must be inserted into the third table vendor_contact (vendor_contact_no, contact_no, vendor_no) and also there must be a condition to check if the entry already exists or not...can any one tell me how this can be done...

Why not design your page just on your third table (vendor_contact), and those fields (which will already be defined as part of that table) can be defined there as your select lists. Then make sure you have a Primary Key (or Unique Key) defined on the table to prevent duplicates.
It makes for a much cleaner looking page, and far easier to implement as well.
Hope this made sense and helps.

  • UPDATING A TABLE WITH SAME INFO FROM ANOTHER TABLE ON THE SAME DB

    0down votefavorite
    I am trying to update a table with info from another table on the same db with same table name. I just want the info to be the same , no primary key or constraint involve just a straight replacement of records and I keep getting errors WITH THE TABLE not
    being recignize. below is my query:
    UPDATE
    VNDFIL
    SET EOBTYP
    =  VNDFIL.EOBTYP,
    EDI_X12_835_VERSION =  VNDFIL.EDI_X12_835_VERSION
    FROM
    AGERECOVERY
    WHERE
    VNDFIL.EOBTYP
    = VNDFIL.EOBTYP
    AND
    VNDFIL
    .EDI_X12_835_VERSION
    = VNDFIL.EDI_X12_835_VERSION

    Hi rotary,
    If those two same named tables are in the same database then they have to be in different schemas. If you mean they are in the same server instance, then they may be in different databases, besides the "table not being recognized" error,
    anyway you should use the fully qualified table names, that is database.Schema.Table(If across instances, ServerName should be prefixed) to avoid the table unrecognized error.
    Using Identifiers As Object Names
    With the fully qualified names, your update statement can be like below.
    UPDATE
    db1.schema1.VNDFIL
    SET EOBTYP = srcTbl.EOBTYP, EDI_X12_835_VERSION = srcTbl.EDI_X12_835_VERSION
    FROM
    db1.schema2.VNDFIL srcTbl
    WHERE
    db1.schema1.VNDFIL.EOBTYP = srcTbl.VNDFIL.EOBTYP AND
    db1.schema1.VNDFIL.EDI_X12_835_VERSION = srcTbl.VNDFIL.EDI_X12_835_VERSION

  • How to update a table with the time of insert instead of time of commit

    dear,
    i have 10 record at source side which needs to be injected in a target table ;
    the record creation date is injected with the systimestamp -
    when commiting it takes for all the same timestamp for all records( at commit time ) however I would like to insert the timestamp at INSERT moment to have a unique timestamp - id est at INSERT time.
    Can anyone please adviseN?
    Thanks

    when commiting it takes for all the same timestamp for all records( at commit time ) Not true about commit time. True about same time. Function SYSDATE is always calculated once for SQL statement no matter how many times and for how many rows it is referenced. So when you issue:
    insert
      into target(insert_date)
      select sysdate
        from  source
    /All inserted rows will have same insert_date. Now keep in mind, Oracle date datatype precision is one second. So unless your insert of 10 rows takes more than a second (which would be a problem on its own), date precision will not give you what you want. You would need timestamp. But again, same as SYSDATE, SYSTIMESTAMP is called once per statement. To call it row each row and reference you need to create user-defined function:
    create or replace
      function get_systimestamp
        return timestamp
        is
        begin
            return systimestamp;
    end;
    /Now:
    SQL> select  systimestamp,
      2          get_systimestamp
      3    from  hr.employees
      4  /
    SYSTIMESTAMP                        GET_SYSTIMESTAMP

  • Updating DB tables with the help of VC

    Hello all,
    I'm interested in building input forms and saving the data in the portal.
    I mean, that we are building DB tables in the portal and then, I'm going to build forms for data input/update for the users. Can I implement VC for this purpose?
    I know that VC is perfect for all type of outputs and, also, for connection to R3 functions, but I need something else. I need to store the data in DB tables in the portal. Is it possible to do it with VC?
    Regards,
    Inna

    Hello Inna,
    Your first question was.
    "I'm going to build forms for data input/update for the users. Can I implement VC for this purpose?"
    The answer is yes you can in the Visual Composer create forms that allow you to input data and update information. There is an excellent How To regarding this:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/uuid/2bd0e7bf-0201-0010-babb-bf5a28080184
    Your second question:
    "I know that VC is perfect for all type of outputs and, also, for connection to R3 functions, but I need something else. I need to store the data in DB tables in the portal. Is it possible to do it with VC?"
    By this I assume you wish to persist data in the portal itself? Is that correct? If this is correct, Visual Composer currently does not provide a way to persist data within the Enterprise Portal to my understanding.
    I hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Scott

  • How to update a table with huge data

    Hi,
    I have a scenario where I need to update tables that are having huge data (each table is having more than 10,00000)
    I am writing this update in PLSQL block.
    Is there any way to improve the performance of this update statement? Please suggest...
    Thanks.

    Well the only thing to make this even more slow would be to add a commit inside the loop.
    Some advices. But I'm not sure which one works in your case.
    The fastest way to update a million rows is: write a single update statement. On typical systems this should only run for like a couple of minutes.
    if you need to update several tables then write a single update for each table.
    If you have different values that need to be updated then find a way how to consider those different values in a single update or merge statement. Either by joining another table or by using some in-lists.
    e.g.
    update myTable
    set mycolumn = decode(mycolumn
                                     ,'oldValue1','newvalue1'
                                     ,'oldValue2','newvalue2'
                                     ,'oldValue3','newvalue3')
    where mycolumn in ('oldValue1','oldvalue2','oldvalue3'....);If you need to do this in pl/sql then
    1) use bind variables to avoid hard parsing the same statement again and again
    2) use bulk binding to avoid pl/sql context switches

  • Breakout table (fill table with matching data from another table)

    Hi
    I've been trying to study old discussions about breakout tables. I feel I'm close, but still no cigar :-)
    In plain english, I'm trying to autocreate rows with data on a table, based on matching values from another table. E.g. have a table to display all rows where type = AssetX
    I have attached a screenshot of my "master table" called Assets:
    I'm looking to prefill Asset name, Total from this table and populate a new table called e.g. Greenhouse
    Where I'd be adding more data (date, income, expense).
    Any help whould be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Updating base table with Materialized View's data

    Hi,
    In order to update base table with MVs data, I am trying real time data transfer between two databases. One is Oracle 8i and other is Oracle 9i. I have created an updatable MV in 9i on a base table using database link. The base table is in 8i. Materialized View log is created in 8i on base table. MV has to be associated to some replication group, but I am not able to create replication group in 9i to which MV has to be associated. The required packages are not installed.
    Replication packages are to be used to create replication group are :
    /*Create Materialized View replication group*/
    BEGIN
    DBMS_REPCAT.CREATE_MVIEW_REPGROUP (
    gname => 'TEST_MV_GRP',
    master => 'TEST_DATA_LINK',
    propagation_mode => 'ASYNCHRONOUS');
    END;
    But above block is giving error.
    Can anyone suggest how to resolve this, or are there any other approaches (by not using replication packages) to update base table with MVs data ?
    Thanks,
    Shailesh

    Yes, I created link between two databases and was able to update tables on 8i from 9i database using that link.
    The error I am getting while creating replication group is :
    ORA-06550
    PLS-00201 : identifier 'SYS.DBMS_REPCAT_UTL2@'TEST_DATA_LINK' must be declared
    ORA-06550
    PLS-00201 : identifier 'SYS.DBMS_REPCAT_UNTRUSTED@'TEST_DATA_LINK' must be declared

    ORA-06512 : at "SYS.DBMS_REPCAT_SNA", line 64
    ORA-06512 : at "SYS.DBMS_REPCAT", line 1262
    Is there any other approach which can be used to update base table with MVs data instead of using replication packages ?

  • Two forms that update differrent tables on the same page?

    I tried to add two forms that update different tables on to one page.
    Problem is when I do that the forms gives me an error saying the field does not exist. It's like it is trying to update one table with the other tables fields.
    As an example Say I have one forms that is for people table and another one that is the Jobs table.
    When I go to update the people table, it sends the data for the jobs fields too I get an error like the field job description does not exist.
    I have two different forms for these and everything.
    I would hope it is possible to have two forms that update different tables on the same page.

    I was trying the exact same thing, but i managed to work round it by setting the steps to hide one region, so the user would enter the form see one region submit the region then direct back to the same page with the different region visible and the original hidden.
    I don't know if this would be acceptable for you...

  • Best way to update a table with disinct values

    Hi, i would really appreciate some advise:
    I need to reguarly perform a task where i update 1 table with all the new data that has been entered from another table. I cant perform a complete insert as this will create duplicate data every time it runs so the only way i can think of is using cursors as per the script below:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE update_new_mem IS
    tmpVar NUMBER;
    CURSOR c_mem IS
    SELECT member_name,member_id
    FROM gym.members;
    crec c_mem%ROWTYPE;
    BEGIN
    OPEN c_mem;
    LOOP
    FETCH c_mem INTO crec;
    EXIT WHEN c_mem%NOTFOUND;
    BEGIN
    UPDATE gym.lifts
    SET name = crec.member_name
    WHERE member_id = crec.member_id;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND THEN NULL;
    END;
    IF SQL%NOTFOUND THEN
    BEGIN
    INSERT INTO gym.lifts
    (name,member_id)
    VALUES (crec.member_name,crec.member_id);
    END;
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    CLOSE c_mem;
    END update_new_mem;
    This method works but is there an easier (faster) way to update another table with new data only?
    Many thanks

    Almost anything would be better than that slow-by-slow loop processing.
    You don't need a procedure you should just use MERGE for that. See the examples in the MERGE section of the SQL Language doc
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28286/statements_9016.htm
    MERGE INTO bonuses D
       USING (SELECT employee_id, salary, department_id FROM employees
       WHERE department_id = 80) S
       ON (D.employee_id = S.employee_id)
       WHEN MATCHED THEN UPDATE SET D.bonus = D.bonus + S.salary*.01
         DELETE WHERE (S.salary > 8000)
       WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN INSERT (D.employee_id, D.bonus)
         VALUES (S.employee_id, S.salary*.01)
         WHERE (S.salary <= 8000);

  • How to add a column to a list created with the Dynamic List Wizard to display the values of the fiel

    Hi,
    ADDT, Vista, WAMP5.0
    We have 2 tables: clients_cli (id_cli, name_cli, tel_cli, and several more fields) and cases_cas (id_cas, idcli_cas, court_cas, and a lot of other fields).
    Clients may have many cases, so table cases_cas have a foreign key named idcli_cas, just to determine which case belongs to which client.
    We designed the lists of the two tables with the Dynamic List Wizard and the corresponding forms with Dynamic Form Wizard.
    These two forms are linked with the Convert Dynamic List and Form Wizards, which added a button to clients list named "add case".
    We add a client and then the system returns to the clients list displaying all clients, we look for the new client just added and then press "add case", which opens the Dynamic Form for cases, enter all case details and everything processes ok.
    However, when we view the cases list it display all the details of the case, including the column and values for the foreign key idcli_cas. As you can image, it is quite difficult for a human to remember the clients ids.
    So, in the cases list we added a another column, named it Name, to display the names of the clients along with cases details. We also created another recordset rsCli, selected the clients_cli table, displaying all columns, set filter id_cli = Form Variable = idcli_cas then press the Test button and everything displays perfect. Press ok.
    Then, we position the cursor inside the corresponding cell of the new Name column, go to Bindings, click on name_cli and then click on insert. The dynamic field is inserted into the table cell as expected, Save the page, and test in browser.
    The browser call the cases list but fails to display the values of the Name column. The Name column is simply empty.
    This issue creates a huge problem that makes our application too difficult to use.
    What are we doing wrong?
    Please help.

    The fields can be filled from the Pnnnn structure or by reading text tables.

  • Trigger to update field on a table with the sum of fields on another table

    My experience creating triggers and pl/sql in general can best be described in oracle terms as null. I've been practicing by creating tables and applications on my personal home server to help me with some of my work related tasks. Right now I'm trying to create a trigger that will, after insert, update, delete on the assignment_time_track table update the time_spent field on the assignments table with the sum of the time_spent fields on the assignment_time_track table. Hopefully that run on sentence there is clear to people other than myself. I've attempted to script this on my own using the trigger creation tool for Oracle Database Express Edition but I get the following error:
    Trigger create was not successful for the following reason:
    ORA-06552: PL/SQL: Compilation unit analysis terminated ORA-06553: PLS-320: the declaration of the type of this expression is incomplete or malformed
    Here is my attempt at creating the trigger on my own.
    create or replace trigger "ASSIGNMENT_TIME_TRACK_T1"
    AFTER
    insert or update or delete on "ASSIGNMENT_TIME_TRACK"
    for each row
    begin
    update assignments
    set time_spent = (select sum(time_spent)
    from assignment_time_track
    where assignment_time_track.name = assignments.name);
    end;
    If what I've posted isn't clear or more detail is needed, let me know and I'll respond with a complete description of both tables and my goals for each table. Thanks in advance for any help. I will also gladly accept links to tutorials or lessons that explain how to do this sort of thing.

    Hi,
    If the assignments table has only one row per assignment, why is the primary key the combination of name and time_spent? If you have two two assignments called "Lab Report", isn't it possible that you would spend the same amount of time on each of them? I suggest using a sequence to assign an arbitrary id number to each assignment, and use that as the primary key.
    What does each row in assuignment_time_track represent? It sounds like it is a chunk of time spent on one assignment (that is, you want to know that you spent 90 minutes on Tudesday morning working on some assignment, and that you spent another 30 minutes on Tuesday afternoon working on the same assignment). If so, then there should be a foreign key constraint in assignment_time_track referencing the primary key of assignemnt, and not the other way around.
    Alex is right; you can get the total time spent on each project in a query or view; there is no need to replicate that data.
    If you're new to Oracle and SQL, you should invest your time in getting more experience with the basics: everyday things like queries (using joins and GROUP BY) and views, and not spend much time on things that aren't used that much, like triggers.
    If you really did have to copy the data, then you could have a trigger on assignemnt_time_track that kept the total in assignment up to date, like this:
    UPDATE  assignment
    SET     total_time_spent = total_time_spent
                    + NVL (:NEW.time_spent, 0)
                             - NVL (:OLD.time_spent, 0);I suggest you name the column in assignment something different than the column in assignment_time_track, to reduce the risk of confusion. Also, since they represent different things, the same name can't be the most descripttive for each of them.
    In case you're wondering about the use of NVL, above: It allows the same statement to take care of the situation when you INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE a row in assignment_time_track. That is, if you UPDATE a row in assignment_time_track, and change the time_spent from 60 to 90, then you want to add the new time (90) and subtract the old time (60) fro the total_time_spent in assignment: that is, total_time_spent would increase by 30. If you INSERT a new row into assignment_time_track with time_spent=30, you just need to add the new time_spent (30): there is nothing to subtract. But rather than write an IF statement and a second UPDATE for that situation, you can just rely on hte fact that all :OLD values are NULL iwhen INSERTing, and treat that NULL as a 0. Likewise, when DELETing, all :NEW values are NULL..

  • How can I build a table with the time values of a timer from a while loop

    Hi:
    I have a question concerning building a table:
    Every 100ms I read a value from a sensor (while loop with a timer). I would like to build a table with the actual time and the concerning value. For example:
    0msec         1V
    100msec     2V
    200msec     3V
    300msec     4V
    etc.
    If I use the Express VI for building a table, I always get the date and time, but I don't need the date and the time is in the following format: HH:MMS, which is nonsensical for me as I can't differentiate within msec. Can I change the format anywhere?
    Can I also save the table to a file or even to an Excelsheet? How can I do that?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Craig:
    thank you very much. To solve the mystery : ) :
    I want to drive a stepper motor with a specific frequency. To get the current degree value of the motor I would like to measure the current time (from the beginning of the move on). (With a formula I get the degree value out of the time)
    Concurrently I would like to get data from a torque sensor and from a pressure sensor. That's why I asked you about the time and the table. The measurement should start with the movement of the motor. How can I do that? Right now I have different block diagrams (different while loops) (see attachment) and I would like to put them in one.
    I haven't done the block diagram for the pressure sensor yet, so there is only the one for the torque sensor and the one for the motor.
    I also would like to set a mark in the table when the voltage value of an analog input gets under a specific threshold value. Is that possible?
    I'm sorry, I'm a novice in LabVIEW. But maybe you can help me.
    Thank you very much!
    Steffi

  • How to display data from internal table in the SELECTION-SCREEN

    Hello Experts,
    My requirement is to display the data's from an internal table in the selection screen. I tried using selection-screen comment. But it is working only for a single record. Can anyone please tell me how to do this?

    Hi Ritika,
    we cant use write statement inside selection-screen.
    see my coding.
    SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF SCREEN 123 AS WINDOW TITLE TEXT-456.
      SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF BLOCK BL1 WITH FRAME TITLE TEXT-BL1
                                          NO INTERVALS.
        SELECT-OPTIONS SEL1 FOR SY-DATUM.
        PARAMETERS     PAR1(10).
    <b>** I WANT ALL RECORDS FROM AN INTERNAL TABLE HERE ONLY</b>
        SELECTION-SCREEN END OF BLOCK BL1.
      SELECTION-SCREEN PUSHBUTTON 2(10)  but1 USER-COMMAND cli1.
      SELECTION-SCREEN PUSHBUTTON 20(10)  but2 USER-COMMAND cli2.

    I use Firefox 95% of the time, and there's no problem with flash content (and I'm still at .55 - downloaded .64 last week but I haven't got round to making the change yet). At the rate they've been changing it recently it may well be out of date already .
    I've been trying it in Safari, too with no problems apart from You Tube, but that's because I'm blocking Google cookies.
    One thought does occur - if your Flash preferences are set to block all Local Storage, it may be that the problem site is trying to use Flash cookies (LSOs). I had this problem recently with the BBC iPlayer streaming content. Little Snitch notified an attempt to connect to a new URL - emp.bbci.co.uk.
    If I disallowed it, no streaming; when I allowed the connection, it still wouldn't stream, so I did a bit of digging and came to the conclusion that it was trying to set a Flash cookie. When I unblocked, lo and behold - streaming resumed as normal.
    I now have LSOs blocked in a more subtle way that lets the site think it's being set (but it ain't) and the streaming still works.
    As for permissions repair - always repair from local; the permissions on the original disc will have been superceded by updates and new installations of Apple software.
    DU needs to be reading the packages on the HD, not the (now out of date) install disc.
    The recurring repair messages are normal and don't mean anything's wrong. As long as the final message is 'repair complete' there's no need to dwell on it.
