Updating Airport Express software

When I have my iMac check for software updates, will it also check for updates to the Airport Express? Or do I have to do something different to update the softwear on the Express?

When you open the AirPort Admin Utility it will alert you to updates.

  • Airport Express software update reminder each time at start up

Why do I get Airport Express software update for 5.4.2 reminder each time at start up? I try to update from 5.4.1 by clicking update button, and zoom, the Airport Express screen disappears and no update begins. Your help is appreciated.

I'm not getting an update message, so I can't re-create your view, but this might help.
Open AirPort Utility. On the AirPort Utility menu right next to the Apple icon, select Check for Updates.

  • ITunes 9.2.1 Update & Airport Express Connection Problem

Hey, I bought an Airport Express recently, set it up on my current wi-fi network to stream audio.. worked perfectly and we had no problems. When iTunes 9.2.1 came out, I updated straight away and since then I've been having problems with the Airport Express. Now - if I want to use it to stream music, I have to go and unplug it and then plug it back in, wait for it to start up and then it will work. If I start streaming music pretty much straight away then I'll have about 45mins of playback before it will just stop. If I try to reconnect to the airport speakers then, it wont connect and comes up with a nasty looking error message in iTunes with loads of foreign looking symbols. I have to go unplug and then plug in again and wait for it to start up again before it will work again. If I don't start playing music soon after this 'reset', it loses its connection very quickly and I have to go plug out and in again to get it connected.
The green light is always showing, I've tried restoring to its default settings and then setting it up again, I've got the latest iTunes and Airport Express software.. but no idea how to stop this happening. Can anyone help as its getting very frustrating!
    Thanks!

Same issue here. I just received a new Express N to replace my Express G (2004) since it was experiencing some minor stutter playing music (due to contention with the 10+ other clients on a 2.4Ghz wireless G network).
I have a dual-band Linksys 610n (latest firmware) with a 5ghz/40mhz N only network and a 2.4ghz/20mhz G only network. With the Express N configured to connect to the 5ghz N network as a client, I have to reset it every time I want to play music or I get the garbled error dialog in iTunes 9.2.1. In addition, after resetting, it only plays music for about 20 minutes and then starts to stutter and a minute later drops out completely and has to be reset once more.
I'm streaming from a 2009 MBPro/10.6.4 with 8GB Ram and it too is a client on the same N network. The MBPro is about 5 feet from the router and the Express N is less than 30 ft away through a few walls of drywall and wood studs. The Express G in the same configuration only experienced minor stutter during playback and never dropped from the network completely. I wanted to get the N express to remove contention by using the 5ghz network, obviously that's not going to work. I realize 5ghz has a shortened range (especially through objects), but 30 ft should be well within 5ghz reach and I have no problems with my other 5ghz devices (2 other MBPros).
The Express N has firmware 7.4.2 and the Express G has the latest firmware for it (6.x.x).
I'm going to try the Express N on the G network, but even if it works, I will probably just return the Express N and live with the Express G's minor stutters since there's no benefit to the N at that point.

  • Can't install AirPort Express Software

    Help!
Trying to install AirPort Express Software in my computer. It's an iMac 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4. It was installed with OS X 10.3 with updates through 10.3.9. I recently installed Leopard 10.5 and it is now updated to version 10.5.1. But, when I try to install the software for my new AirPort Express, it says "you cannot install AirPort on this volume. The version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported." Huh? AirPort express says it can be used by computers working on OS X 10.4 or later. What might be my problem? THANKS!
    Terry

    Duane,
Thank you for your speedy response!!!!
When I open the AirPort Utility.app, a window opens called AirPort Utility, the twirly/stopwatch icon goes into motion next to the words"Discovering Base Stations." After this happens for some seconds, these words appear...
"AirPort Utility was unable to find any AirPort base stations. Please make sure the AirPort base station you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then click rescan to try again."
My express is plugged in five feet from my computer. What to do....?
    Many thanks!

  • Trying to update airport express by downloading airport utility 5.6 on my macbook pro/lion.  getting error message "version of OS X  on this volume is not supported"  What does it mean?

Trying to update airport express by downloading Airport Utility 5.6 (which it says I need).  When installing I get an error message, "...version of Mac OSX on this volume is not supported."  What does it mean/what do I do?

For OS X Lion, you need to download this version directly from Apple Support Downloads.

  • AIRPORT EXPRESS SOFTWARE WONT INSTALL

    Hello All,
Anyone know a reason why I can't install the Airport Express software on my Mac Book Pro?
When I place the disk in the drive the icon comes up on the desktop. I open the icon and click on the installer to begin the installation process. Once, I get through all the legal mumbo jumbo and to the destination drive screen, the installer tells me that the version of OS X I have isn't supported. Is 10.5.1 compatible with the software? If not, where I can I get a copy of "compatible" software?
    Thanks
    Calvin

calgenjon, Welcome to the discussion area!
Don't worry about that software. Instead use "AirPort Utility" which you will find in the /Applications/Utilities directory.

  • Loading Airport Express Software onto my Vista Laptop

I have a Acer Aspire 7520 Laptop I have set up the Airport Express which is working fine with my laptop but cannot load the airport express software setup assistant, Vista keeps coming back with an error message so can not use my printer or Airtunes Please help Thanks Den Barrett

Hello Den Barrett. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The earlier version of AirPort 4.2 for Windows is not compatible with Windows Vista, although I have heard reports that folks had some luck running it under WinXP-compatible mode.
I believe the new version 5.x is, however it's not available as a download.
The following is a workaround provided by another Discussions member ...
    1. You will need a program called Less_MSIerables:
    http://blogs.pingpoet.com/overflow/archive/2005/11/16/14995.aspx
    2. Download it to your desktop
Unzip that file (Should end up in your unzipped file folder)
    3. Now, download Airport Extreme (works for Airport Express, too) software:
    http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3rdpty2.pl/product=14697&cat=1&platform =osx&method=sa/AirPort521Update.exe
    4. Use a program like winrar or winzip to uncompress that file to a new folder
    5. Next go to the folder in which you saved the unzipped version of Less_Msierables
    6. In a subfolder you will see a file called Lessmsi.
    7. Right-click on this file
    8. Go to properties.
    9. Go to compatability.
    10. Run in XP Mode
    11. Apply
    12. OK
    13. Again right-click on icon.
    14. Run as administrator.
    15. Then click on the ... button to browse to the folder you uncompressed the AirPort521Update (adjust for whatever version they happen to be on)
    16. You will see a list of many files, but the one of the first will be APUtil.exe.
    17. Extract this file to a location that you can easily find.
    18. A file folder will appear with a name like cab#APSetup.cab1
    19. Open that file folder and you will see a file APUtil.exe
    20. Click on that file, and the admin utility will open. You should be able to find your airport device.

  • Problems After Updating Airport Extreme Software & Firmware

Lost wireless connection to my printer while attempting printing from either desktop or laptop & when I tried to re-establish/update the wireless settings, I received message that new versions of software & firmware were available for my Airport Extreme. After I downloaded & installed both of these, I could no longer connect at all to the Airport Extreme. When I used the Airport Assistant to try to solve problems, it said airport was out of range. Also only got flashing amber light on Airport Extreme no matter how many times I tried to reset it and DSL modem (went through complete re-connect/re-install of both Airport Extreme and DSL modem hardware). I switched to an extra Airport Express I have and now everything is backing working again. Any known problems with either the latest Airport Extreme software (Airport Utility 5.3.2) or firmware (version 7.3.2 I think)?

Firstly, on the Mac you use to configure the AEB, Repair Permissions - /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app. Start Disk Utility, select your HD and click on Repair Permissions. When finished, quit Disk Utility and then restart your computer.
I see you are using 10.4.11, so the steps in Part B may be a little different (this is for 10.5.x).
Use this procedure to setup your network again:
    A. Setup the 'Main' Base Station
    1. Do a factory reset of your AEB (main), then turnoff the DSL Modem and the AEB (main) - leave off for at least 5 minutes to allow servers to reset.
    2. Check that ethernet cables are connected properly:
    - DSL Modem > AEB (main) WAN port;
    - AEB (main) ethernet port > Mac computer running OS X 10.5.x.
    3. Power-on DSL Modem and wait for it to initialise.
    4. Power-on the AEB (main) and start your Mac computer.
    5. Open AirPort Utility and select the AEB (main) in the LH pane. Click 'Continue' and give the AEB (main) a name and an admin password (twice). Click 'Continue'.
    6. Select 'I don't have a wireless network and I want to create one', click Continue.
    7. Give your network a name, select WPA/WPA2 Personal and insert the wireless network password (twice) - use 13 alpha/numeric characters for password. Tick 'Remember this password in my keychain'. Click 'Continue'.
    8. Select 'I connect to the Internet with a DSL or cable modem using DHCP'. Click 'Continue'.
    9. Click 'Update' and wait for the AEB (main) to restart.
    10. Disconnect the ethernet cable between your Mac and the AEB (main).
    B. Setup Client computer
    1. Open System Preferences/Network/AirPort.
    2. Against 'Network Name:' select your network (the name you gave it at A7).
    3. Click 'Advanced' and select TCP/IP. Against 'Configure IPv4:' select 'Using DHCP', then click 'OK'.
    4. Click 'Apply' and exit System Preferences.

  • Airport Express Software v4.2

I want to use the Airport Express to play music through my home theater but can't get the base station to recognize my wireless network. When I attempt to install the software (setup assistant, admin utility and status menu) it won't install because I downloaded a newer version of iTunes this month. Suggestions?

I just realized but have to ask the question. Is version 5.1 an update to the Airport Admin Utility or is it an update to the Airport Utility that came with the 802.11n Extreme Base Station. Big difference. I noticed the latest version of the new Airport Utility is v5.1 for both the Mac and PC. There was a recent upgrade from v5.0 but that is for the Airport Utility (new Utility that will manage all equipment for comes with the 802.11n) not the Airport Admin Utility.
I am sure that the last update for Mac )S 10.4.10 should have upgraded the Airport Admin Utility I have on my Hard Drive which shows as 4.2.5. That tells me the latest version of Airport Admin Utility (at least for the Mac) is 4.2.5 and that is for people who do not have the new 802.11n Extreme.

  • Can't update Airport Express (original - 802.11g) to firmware 6.3

I have an old Airport Express (original model - 802.11g) that I want to use only for AirTunes over ethernet. The current version of iTunes supports this only with 6.3 firmware in the Airport Express.
I have tried many methods to get the firmware from the 6.0 version that appears "burned in" to the device to 6.3. Whatever I do, the 6.3 firmware update always results in the device reverting back to 6.0. I've tried the following>
-> Standard updating via Airport Utility (5.4.1/MacOS)
-> Manual updating (using "Base Station-> Upload Firmware") to 6.0 and 6.1.1 basebinary
-> Manual updating using standalone firmware updater on Mac
-> Manual updating using standalone firmware updater on Windows
-> Booting Mac in Safe Boot and repeating all above Mac steps
I have tried all the above updating directly from 6.0 -> 6.3 and also updating to 6.1.1 and from there to 6.3.
I have tried all the above using both wireless and direct ethernet connections with the Airport card in my Mac disabled.
No matter what I do, the 6.3 firmware update completes normally, and then the AirPort Express reboots. When it shows up again in AirPort Utility or in the firmware updater program, it shows as running 6.0 firmware (even if it was running 6.1.1 prior to the 6.3 update).
It seems that rather than booting into the newly uploaded 6.3 firmware, the device is instead falling back to some version of 6.0 that must be somewhere in its memory.
One thing I haven't tried is direct uploading of the 6.3 firmware basebinary, which I was unable to find online -- if anyone knows where to find it, please let me know!
I'm at a loss of what to do next, and would appreciate any help folks can provide.
    Thanks!

I had exactly the same issue. The software you need cannot be downloaded from Apple. You need the new Aiport Utility (sans Admin). Find the CD that came with with AEBS and you'll be good to go. Once installed additional updates can be downloaded.

Can no longer play music from itunes on my MacBook Pro to my stereo. How do I know if my airport express modem is still working?

Tried to update my AirPort Express to 7.6.1 and got he error 6721. Anyone kno what that is and how toget around it? Thanks!

It should restore from the backup. If you don't have any backup then you will lose data but what you going to do you have no other alternative so go ahead and do it.
